Motu Redesign challenge #91 - SCROLLOS!

One of the most mysterious MotU-characters of all time... Scrollos was featured heavily in the UK comics
and in their other reprints in Europe, wherein he opened up his enormous treasure-trove of information
on virtually EVERYTHING in the MotU-universe. He knows literally everything about everybody.

We know more or less nothing about him, however!

Even his colour-scheme is something of a mystery, as it shifted and changed from nearly every appearance.
Sometimes he is even blonde, with a hair-cut highly reminiscent of He-man himself!

He only made one appearance in person, wherein we get to see his face even! In 3 issues of the UK MotU
Adventure Magazine, he was finally revealed in full.

The rules are as EVER:
All people who choose to participate will have two weeks to come up with ONE redesign for this
character. You can use any medium you wish. You can sketch, paint, make a 3-D model,
make a sprite, make a custom action figure, whatever you want. Its entirely up to you!

As well, you don't have to force yourself to make your design conform to the new OR OLD cartoon &
comic book's style. Be as drastic in your redesign as you see fit. Whatever makes you happy.
If you can't think of a new design, or just hate the idea of working on this character,
you do not have to feel obligated to participate in this particular challenge.
You will still be free to participate in any future challenges you wish.

Moderator Havoc made this custom which is apparently made to highly resemble Scrollos appearance in MotU Adventure Magazine #17.

I see that you went with a cosmic gateway for a face, which certainly does feel like a very natural thing to go for.

Still, it's actually not something I've ever thought of him looking like!

Can't wait to see what kind of colour-scheme you'll chose for him.

Man, this is going to be fun! I'm actually going to set aside time for this one so I can put a little more effort into it.

Loving what you have so far Seraphyn. Has a little bit of a Captain Marvel/Genis face thing going on. Very cool.

I have zero knowledge of the character & I nvisioned him as an old man kinda like eldor the first time I read about him but never saw any pics. Now that I've seen the pics I'm not sure what to make of him as he's totally different from what I had in mind. But here's a redesign anyway. If I ever hget the time to do a better design I'll remove this one & post the other. But until then heres me rendition...

A timeless being assigned with the duty of monitoring Eternia, Scrollos was appointed by Cosmic enforcers to keep a record on all major events that take place on Eternia throughout the eons. Scrollos is not allowed to indulge in any activvities that take place on Eternia, merely keep a record of them. He is not allowed to even enter Eternia's atmosphere because of the threat of one force using his knowledge & data bank to gain an edge over the other thus shifting the balance of power. Scrollos is only allowed to interfere when there are time breaches on Eternia. Scrollos uses his special vision to constantly keep an eye on both the forces of good an Evil. He records all data through brainwaves & stores it on his mainframe. He is absolutely emotionless & only answerable to the likes of Zodac & He-ro.

Awesome idea, dude! He kind of looks a little bit evil with the way you've applied the colour-scheme tho.

Welcome to the challenges, Raw!!

Glad you could make it, dude. I like that you have included the eye-amulet ( a neat feature that even I didn't know about until the orange pic was posted). He also looks a bit rugged, older than say He-man or He-Ro.

Neat bio there, 2-bad. =) So he's an emissary of the Cosmic Enforcers, eh? Well, that kind of makes sense. Your redesign is probably the one that strays the furthest away from the source-material, which is understandable, considering you had never seen him before.

I think he's a little bit too far away from the concept that I know, but it's an interesting idea, having him actually look physically older, since he's seen so much.

yeah i'll be at birmingham... only for a day though i think. going through a poor patch

The linework is all done in manga studio by the way. really nice little graphics package.

sort of... he's got the sword from the original images... not that you can see it that well. hopefully it'll make sense when it's finished.

While it's a pity we have no scans of the pages in english, this is great!

I always really liked Scrollos. MOTU's version of The Watcher.
He used to anwer the fan mail in the comics too. I wrote in. He never answered!

I'm tellin ya, US fans should really score some UK MOTU comics if they can.

I'm in awe of Seraphyn's design, and I love the others as well. Raw, I hope you'll design more characters in that style!

My own is about a year old and before I saw the star on his forehead. I drew him as younger, and possibly a relation to He-Ro.

I love the designs everyone has come up with so far. Gbagok, awesome work as usual. I sort of imagine Scrollos as having a magic and/or high tech looking scroll that gives him his vast amount of knowledge. anyone else think of that?

The UK comics were great story wise but when it came to colors they were horrendous. My favourite one has to be the one where Kobra Khan grows giant size thanks an accident with the potion. Do you have a confirmation on how many of those were released, Eamon? I'm not sure i we're meaning the same ones.

Very little is know about the mysterious watcher and record keeper of Eternian History. He is almost never seen except glimpsed from the corner of the eye and then almost always mistaken for somebody else. The sorceress knows his true identity and is glad. Glad that the risk taken is not in vain and that the strength of grayskull will forever live on, even if it's champion may not.
