That was funny, but I feel G.I. Joe and Transformers were a lot guiltier of using their cartoons as toy commercials. Filmation stuck with the same main characters for most of their episodes where Sunbow/Hasbro would kill off/forget about older characters just to introduce their new toys. Hell, the animated Transformers movie was only an excuse to clear the way for the new toys that would be used in the newest season of the TV show.

That was awesome! I hope to see one day the final version.

Amen to that. The Filmation show stuck with a main cast of characters, and Mattel didn't even follow suit for years with a Sorceress figure. When I was a kid, I didn't even realize characters like Spikor were from He-Man because they weren't on the show.

But yes, the video was funny.

Marvel/Sunbow and Hasbro didn't had a same deal like Filmation and Mattel had.
So whenever Hasbro asked Marvel/Sunbow to include new characters, they had no choice but to shoehorn them in.

BTW, all the new characters in TF:TM were created by the cartoon series writers FOR TF:TM. Even Ultra Magnus who originaly had brand new design!

yeah MOTU has always been unfairly criticized in comparison to TF and GI Joe in regards to the 30 min toy commercial thing. Filmation - but as a kid I was always a little let down when I didn't see some of my fave new toys featured on the show! for me it wasn't about advertising as much as it enhanced what I already loved. Adults didn't seem to understand that - we as kids were already buying the toys, now we wanted to see em in action.
