Shadow Weaver in MOTUC - Official Discussion

I might be alone on this one, but I was really hoping that Shadow Weaver's outfit would have been closer to the shade of red that Adora and Catra are wearing. I wanted Hordak's ladies to match!

I absolutely LOVE Shadow Weaver! She turned out ultra-fantastic!

I was staring at the pictures of all the figures and did notice something with Shadow Weaver though...she's missing one of her triangle "jagged" points!

- She has two on each sleeve.
- On the back "cape" part, she only has one on the RIGHT side of the screen and not on the LEFT side of the screen!

Are you POSITIVE Brian? I want to believe but that side looks like a half-circle without any of the jagged, triangle points! If it is there, I will be very happy.

EDIT: Brian's right! It's just moved funny. Sorry guys! False alarm. Shadow Weaver is perfect again!

I am very excited to finally get Shadow Weaver but I think the inner sleeves look a little bland.

Maybe they should paint them black for more "depth" like The Faceless One's cape. Or have they said that this would be the case?

The book she comes with is the Eldritch Book of Spells from "The Eldritch Mist" - so pleased with the nods to the cartoon!



Hope we get more of these as more Filmation characters hit the scene.

My Orkos can hold their books! The "spell casting" hand. You have to get it just right, but then it stays in pretty good! I can hold him upside-down without it falling out.

Shadow Weaver looks fantastic. And the book she comes with is a fantastic addition.

My only nitpick is her wand. I wish it would've had a little more to it in terms of detail. It looks just kind of plain to me.

I agree with Beastmangler, that Shadow Weaver's sleeves should be painted black to better give the impression of some sinister evil darkness underneath that cloak. Otherwise friken awesome figure and one both me and Hordak are looking forward too.

My only nitpick is her wand. I wish it would've had a little more to it in terms of detail. It looks just kind of plain to me.

Her wand was shown in one episode - "The Caregiver", where she uises it to drain Glimmer's power.



I'm pleased they gave her that and not the one she finds in Bow's Magical Gift...but a Shadow Coil or two would have been nice...

I Know!!! I was so excited when I saw it!! Completely had flashbacks to that episode and then started daydreaming about Casta and how to pose them fighting!

Ok, so I played around in Photoshop with the image from the Four Horsemen's website which is clearer.

Here is the original:





I think she looks too "PVC-ish" with the sleeves not colored in.





Here, I think it gives her more depth.

Maybe their intention has always been to shade it in.

Weaver's always been more of a purple/maroon.

Besides, look at Catra's Horde symbol - they switched it from the slightly orangy shade of the cartoon to scarlet, and it doesn't show up well on her MotUC toy because of it.

Her robe is supposed to be the same color as Orko's (per Filmation)

The shading is nice touch but I think its to late for changed based on comments by Toyguru. The good thing is that this is a easy fix do with some paint. Not nearly as tricky as painting small details like eyes.

If Mattel can do THIS in Batman Legacy Wave 2 and package Batman with Bat-Mite...

...then they should be able to package Imp with Shadow Weaver, assuming that Weaver doesn't come with anything else.

In response to the poll question, what impact did having Shadow Weaver as the Subscription Exclusive have on my decision to subscribe? -- I'd have to say very little. I don't object to the character or the figure, and I'm looking forward to her, but she wasn't a priority.

My two big reasons to decide to finally subscribe for 2012 were simply this -- an increase in price for non-subscribers, and a decrease in the production run for non-subscribers.

My finances are strained enough as it is, and so are my nerves on the 15th of every month. My computer system at home will never earn the nickname "Speedy Gonzales". So I found myself around the middle of every month seeking out a faster computer, either at work or a public library, and then hoping that the "Refresh" screen would punch through before the figures ran out.

And now, this nerve-wracking procedure was going to cost me more, and the odds of not getting a figure before the supply ran out were going to be worse?

Forget that! I subscribed. Shadow Weaver will be a nice addition to my collection, but she was hardly the priority reason I subscribed.

She isn't going to cost a huge amount. She will likely use the Marlena buck, with a new dress and cape/shawl (the armor/skirts/dresses, etc. Are FAR cheaper to tool and produce than buck pieces or heads for some reason).

They could afford:

Interchangeable hands (both sides); book of spells (at worst, reuse the Orko one), mist coils, and Styrax.

They NEED to go all out on this figure. It's the first time she's being made, AND she's likely the most requested MOTU figure EVER.

i am probably the only one but

i really wish they had done her this way. she feels like a tree-topper to me. i really wish she had legs.
