Release The...Repaints! (Unbelievable Discovery)

Okay, I literally JUST discovered this and I'm not sure if this is common knowledge. Before I blow your minds, lets recap some MOTU repaints we do know about:

- Battle Cat is a black panthor from Big Jim
- Screeech and Zoar are an eagle from Big Jim
- If Gygor was released in the 80's he was going to be a repaint of the black gorilla in Big Jim
- Demolition Man's John Spartan is a repainted NA He-Man
- Demolition Man's Cryo Claw Tech is a repainted Flipshot
- Demolition Man's Kick Fighting John Spartan is a repainted Nocturna
- Demolition Man's Friendly is a repainted Kyo
- Demolition Man's Blast Attack Phoenix is a repainted Vizar
- Demolition Man's Bolajet is a repainted NA Bolajet

Okay...and now the big reveal!

All the Princess of Power Horses are repaints of Pegasus from Clash of the Titans! Pegasus was released individually and in a two-pack with Perseus dated 1980:







P.S. The title of my thread is in reference to the line in the movie "release the Kraken!"

Did anyone know Swiftwind and company were repaints?!

I'm not so sure that they are. The PoP horses all have rooted hair, and removable wings/saddle. And I'm not convinced Pegasus and Swifty are the same scale... as I had this thing as a kid back in the day.

Pegasus probably is smaller, but it's the same sculpt (with mane and tail cut off to allow for rooted hair). It's just like how Mattel used the PoP horses as Barbie horses (they just made the mold bigger). I thought it was a VERY interesting find! I guess not most people agree as lots have visited this thread, but you're the only one who posted.

Kind of a bit sad how incredibly cheap Mattel was back then tho. :\ At least they gave them some rooted hair.

a few years back at biglots there was a knockoff brand toy company that used this mold to make some colored horses but they where shrank down to about 3 -5 inch size. I wanted to buy the set for customs but it was like 30 bucks for 3 small horses and some big ol barn.

What a fantastic find! If She-Ra was made with sculpted hair and had less make up back in the day and Swiftwind came like this rather than having rooted hair and in cartoon colors I bet a lot more boys would have wanted him in their toy collections.

I hate to be a downer, but I just scritinized Swift wind very carefully and compared it to the Pegasus pic: they are not the same sculpt
They are very, very close but SW was defintely resculpted and retooled
Pegasus is much more detailed, and anatomy is much better outlined.
on Swiftwind, all those details are toned down, the legs are thicker, there are no hair around the ears, etc.
The wings however are exactly the same

I agree w/Emiliano, I had the pegasus as a kid(one of my favorite toys BTW) This was definitely not the same mold but retooled.

The wings actually had tabs that made them removable from the horse and a slit in the "back" where u plugged the wings in was pretty thick, like a 3 cm hole basically.

Besides being more muscular the other difference I recall is Pegasus had a wider open mouth(as it was made for a reign,you can see the diff above in the pics), almost a snarl even, Swifty definitely is not snarling.

NIce comparison, and definitely a retool, but not the exact same mold as compared to the other re-uses you mentioned

Well, Pegasus isn't 100% a repaint (sculpted hair, slits in sides, probably a lot smaller) but I think the body sculpt looks the same.

When molds are enlarged or shrunk, sometimes proportions go a little wonky (look at the sculpts of King Hsss and Snake Armour He-Man compared to the actual figures).
