Motu Redesign Challenge #95 - DAMON!

DEADLINE IS THE 11th of JUNE!!

The rival of Skeletor!

Back in the 80's, just prior to the coming of Filmation and, just after the release of the first wave of
mini-comics ( during the second wave, I think..?) Mattel managed to make a deal with DC Comics to release a
full-fledged comic-book miniseries with MotU. This series introduced a lot of concepts that were later used
in just about all subsequent versions of MotU.

The transformation, the Kingdom of Eternos, the royal family, the list goes on.

But there was one pretty important character introduced that was never seen again, and that character was...

DAMON! He appears as a rival to Skeletor, with powers that are comparable in scope even to the Lord of Destruction
and Evil himself! His goals are similar to Skelly's own: get into Castle Grayskull, obtain the power, rule the
Universe.

After a long game of evil chess-like strategic fighting between Skeletor and him, the two actually form a
temporary alliance, and they actually manage to get into Grayskull together. Only to of course break said alliance
and pummel on each other once more. Damon ends up on the short end of the stick and is defeated.
Never to be seen again...

Which is a shame, since he's a pretty cool concept.

SO! Shall we take a stab at this dark master of demons and creatures of the night? =D You betcha'!

PS: The above poll is only to gauge some views on possible upcoming challenges, not necessarily what the next challenge will be. We have been holding off the Delora Challenge for quite some time now, and I'm wondering if maybe we shouldn't just do it next. I haven't been able to get a hold of Leanne Hannah, the artist on these boards with the handle StratosMacca, ( and possibly the biggest Stratos-fan in the world) and considering how much professional work she is doing these days, I just don't think she'll EVER be able to do fanart again.

In a way it's a bit sad, since that is the price of success, you lose a little bit of freedom. But I think we should all congratulate her on finally starting to get a break. She's earned it.

The rules are as EVER:
All people who choose to participate will have two weeks to come up with ONE redesign for this
character. You can use any medium you wish. You can sketch, paint, make a 3-D model,
make a sprite, make a custom action figure, whatever you want. Its entirely up to you!

As well, you don't have to force yourself to make your design conform to the new OR OLD cartoon &
comic book's style. Be as drastic in your redesign as you see fit. Whatever makes you happy.
If you can't think of a new design, or just hate the idea of working on this character,
you do not have to feel obligated to participate in this particular challenge.
You will still be free to participate in any future challenges you wish.

Here's one I did a little while ago in an attempt to 200X-ify him and combine the two versions. I imagined him as an enemy of King Grayskull, and possibly an ancestor of Marzo (or now, maybe one of the wizards who raised him in the Dunes of Doom?).

Hey, I totally FORGOT about the demon-form that he had in the Ceril/Adam flashback! That does bring a whole extra dimension to his character, if BOTH images are his "true" face. Maybe the reason he has his sorcerous powers and can summon forth so many demons, is because he has sold his soul to an astral entity from Infinita?

But unlike Skeletor, he can actually control it, summoning forth his demonic guise very rarely.

That would mean that he may actually have quite a bit more in common with Skelly than what first meets the eye...

Excellent idea to combine the two looks! It adds some much needed distinction to his fairly bland look. What do you think about the idea that he gets his mystic powers from merging with a demon btw? And I think that idea for him being one of Marzo's teachers sounds like the best way to go. Makes him a bit more current, which is his original role.

Now now... No need to panic, he's not unbeatable. He hasn't won every challenge he's been in. Sometimes 2-bad, Baena or Buffalo-Bill-Man give him a pretty good fight.

Well for my redesign instead of just putting him in alternate clothing or drawing a 200x / MOTUC version of him I decided to totally change the character, keeping only the colours to show where he came from.

In my version he is a master of an ancient form of dark sorcery called "Blood Magic". This power allows him to control his own blood and cause it to burst out of his veins and either solidify into an extremely hard metal-like substance and used as armour or else remain a soft material.

I love the Shadow Weaver vibe, wolfsfang!

It reminds me a lot of Keldor + Demo-Man=Skeletor and Fallen Ancient=Horde Prime + Unnamed, which is great. RE his time frame, I don't thinking living in KG's time negates being current as well. Hordak and King Hsss seemed to do pretty well I mean.

i dont understand the part about horde prime and the falen ancient. i had never heard that before. what media was that from?

MVC's plan in the comics was that an evil ancient had been split in two, part of him became Horde Prime and the other part became the Unnamed in the crystal from The Shard of Darkness.

Wow... yeah agreed. It's daunting to even try when he pops one on, because it's just so great.

Ah, Damon! I think Skeletor killed him in end of the comic and that was totally something rare in MotU. Wolffang version looks so dangerous that he could survive that kind of attacks and keep Skeletor busy too.

I really like gbagoks idea connecting Damon as a master and father-in-magic of Marzo. So here comes another wizard from old times. Yellow color in his skin is side effect of some horrible experiment: he can barely control demon inside his body. Orange creature is just a wizards familiar.

my real name is Damon, I have brown hair and wear a pointed goatie. I never knew of this character: he is me. I dont even care it's not even that interesting, keep doing artwork of this guy! heheh.

Everyone's done great with their submissions so far. Unfortunately I've got a lot on my plate right now and I'm not going to be able to make the deadline for this contest, I don't think I could even get a quick sketch done in time.

Sad to hear that, Radrcks. But hopefully you'll be able to enter next challenge, right?
