Hey guys, I'm glad there is another redesign challenge. Been needing an excuse to draw something. For this one I pulled a Count Marzo and made Damon look like a poor old geezer. I intended to have his demon/demon form as well, but couldn't come up with a good design.

How does Damon, the evil Preternian Sorcerer stack up to Count Marzo?

This is the first time I've taken so much freedom with a character. I know not everone will like my take this time but it's just how I see him in my vision.

Well if I don't end up voting for me your vision is definitely something I would vote for

So, here's my redesign, as far as someone can call it this way, I just took up George Tuska's one and draw him that way! Originals are just originals to me:

Obiouvlsy, this humble redesign of mine is dedicated to the memory of the great George Tuska, who left us a few months ago, I really love his DC miniseries.

while it is a very nice pic danbrenus I don't think it really qualifies as a "redesign" as it...isn't.

Hehe, certainly pulling in that Marzo-connection, are we? Not a bad idea, but I must say that I'm not quite convinced that this guy could be a rival to The Lord of Destruction.

Hmm, you've certainly got a lot of interesting features here, but I'm not quite sure what his direction is? Is he a sort of Demon/man hybrid? Does he have a magically enchanted kind of armour/exoshell? Tell us more.

Great piece Danbrenus, and a good tribute. I remember Tuska dying recently. I think it was only about 6 months ago? Great artist.

Not sure if I can include your piece as an entry tho, since it's not a redesign? What do you other guys think?

well if it was just a pic of Damon then I would have to give danbrenus an A+ for it but seeing as this is a redesign comp then if you ask me...then no I don't think it should be included as an entry.

Still a very nice pic tho

Aren't Classics interpretations now a part of the challenges? Danbrenus's version seems like a solid MOTUC version to me.

You can always include it - if people don't think it deserves to win, they won't vote for it, right?

BUT, J-bird!! You gotta' join in on this one, man! Come on, we need your unique vision!

As a voter myself, I agree with J-bird and would suggest letting the voters decide. If they (we) don't deem it a redesign, then they won't vote for it.

Aw, c'mon guys, no need to argue, I'm just happy I had the chance to draw and show this classic character and to see someone enjoied it.
Do as you feel right Predabot, I'll be OK either way.

oh I defintely enjoyed the pic, it is a very well drawn piece it is just that it looks so much like the original artwork that there is no way it can be considered a redesign even in the loosest translation of the word.

But by all means if people want it in the poll then put it in. The only problem is will any votes it get be because it is a good "redesign" or simply because it is a good "picture" which are two totally different things imho

You can use any medium you wish. You can sketch, paint, make a 3-D model,
make a sprite, make a custom action figure, whatever you want. Its entirely up to you!

As well, you don't have to force yourself to make your design conform to the new OR OLD cartoon &
comic book's style. Be as drastic in your redesign as you see fit. Whatever makes you happy.

If we read the rules is easy to decide if Dan redesign can be considered a submission to the contest or not...

Bottom line... Dan are you happy with it and you want to see it considered for the contest?

This is just a friendly contest, a way to confront our own artworks with each others, so, I'm already happy so much people enjoyed my Damon.
Predabot, just do what you feel right, either way I'll be happy.

well predabot did ask if we think danbrenus' pic should be allowed in so it is a peoples choice.

Like I said I think it is a brilliant pic and if it was in its own thread I would give it a ton of praise. It is just that it is not a redesign as much as a carbon copy of the original and so really doesn't fit into a redesign competition. Oh and I am not afraid of the competition as I knew from the moment I entered that I would lose I just think that a redesign should look different and not identical to the original

Sorry Dan, but I have decided to not include your pic in the polls. I hate to be the downer, but I think it's important to keep the challenge focused.

About the deadline btw, should I start including the preliminary two week deadline in the first post? So people don't have to count the days in the calendar, so to speak. I figure I should... because I think it would make it easier for folks, right?

I'd like to enter, but unfortunately I'm stacked. I could uster a sketch, but thats kinda it. And i had ideas too. It would help to have the expiry date in the first post, Pred. I assumed it was two weeks, but sometimes it changes.

Well, I don't care if it's not much of a redesign, I just consider it a treat whenever Dan posts new stuff, and his version looks a lot better then the comic one anyway.

I wasn't sure I would throw my hat into this challange since I'm not that interested in the guy, but dammit an idea hit me and I'm just running with it ! I have to go to my mom's place this weekend, how much longer do we have before the deadline, I hope it's another week or so. I think I can get it finished before this time, at least the pencils and inking. My hat's IN !

But, since there aren't so many entries in this challenge, I am prepared to add a few days to the deadline, so you can get it done.

How much do you need? 5 days?
