I may have because I owned some UK mags back in the 80s (I remember UK Horde Prime and Ceres with his Dogs of War), but I'd have to see it again to know for sure. Is it here on the org?

Aye, it is. Check out that crazy hairstyle and the spaceship!

What always amuses me with this one was the slight expansion on previous stories that she was testing a new ion drive when falling into a space warp.

Since you mentioned Ceres, as an adult I always thought of Ceres and the Grimalkin (from the Filmation episode "Cat and the Spider") were twin entities. Their statues were similar, they had somewhat similar backstories...

Yes! I did see that one, I remember blond Marlena. I didn't remember the Ion Drive, just that there was something special about the engine in one telling of the origin, that's why I went with the Dino-Rider-esque scenario. My idea was that the propulsion device warped space and time when it engulfed the Valiant and Arachna ship, stranding them and Marlena in different time periods.

I love the little cameo by Teclar in the issue. And Skeletor's "Kingdom? Hey what?" moment while he's helping King Hiss is priceless.

I agree, they were very similar. Ceres stood out because there were many more instances of Eternian cats than dogs, but it was cool that they worked in the Shakespeare reference (Skeletor had a thing for the Bard I guess between that and the Ricard III bit in the movie). I wish I had a picture of Ceres, his face and collar were really cool.

I always felt that the time displacement between earth and Eternia had some merit, even if it was really only used in the original script for the MOTU 1987 movie. It would fit in well with the massive amounts of time travel in the 80's stories.

Also, I really love the UK comics for the character bits, something no other printed MOTU media really had before MVComics. Even if they did go a little overboard on the comedy at times.

Oh definently. Keclar has a cameo in the Dogs of War story as well, revealing that the Elders sealed Ceres and his brood up back in Ye Olde Days. I think it makes for a nice synergy to have a major cat-like demon and a major dog-like one, both trapped inside statues and guarded in their own fashion (though we never learn where Skeletor obtains the dog statue in the story). In fact, it's quite a recurring theme of the Elders sealing big evil things away only to have them break free much later (I'm also thinking of Serpos in MYP and the creature from the Filmation episode "Battle-Cat").

And yes, Ceres looked cool, and scary considering he could threaten both Eternos and Snake mountain.

Love syklone's origin, the whole Anwat-La/Gar aspect of your stories is one of my favourites...

Also cannot fault a 'return' to Marlena's Filmation origin(?) all that's missing is her Filmation hair

These are great! Is BOE still happening though? please say yes!
A fabulous new wardrobe was revealed to me the day I held aloft my sword and said...

It usually works, but I thought it started to feel worn out in MYP because the villains were always beaten by past hero X only to escape and threaten Eternia (with predictable results). But in a more practical sense, I'd say the Elders were putting off dealing with the villains until He-Man could beat them once and for all. It's also recalls Howard's Conan stories where a couple of long-dead sorcerers were awakened and had to be defeated by Conan.

Thanks! Yes, BoE is still happening, but Iceman and I both have had some major things happening with our families this summer that put a stop to our work for the last few months. The bios have been limited to characters I've had drawn already, and I'll be running out soon without giving things away from BoE or jumping the gun on announced characters whose official bios haven't been released.

Amazing work as always. I really love Scorpia's bio and wondered if you made up her origins. Also, I wondered why you chose to create some of her features as a mutation and whether you contemplated her scorpian items as armour given Hordak's preference for technology?

Lastly, any chance of seeing Peekablue in a similar style of your Indian styled Castaspella? I think it could look great in your hands.

    Keep up the great work!

I drew a more mechanical version of Scorpia a while back, but over time it didn't sit well with me. I like the Horde using Tech, but I also wanted the Medusa origin because I think the more Greek myth in Etheria, the better. I always loved Baena's renderings of PoP girls and decided to adapt his Scorpia, and I think it looked more like an official design than mine did. I based the face more on Filmation, but otherwise she turned out nicely this way. My old design for her, and for Peekablue is here:
    http://www.he-man.org/forums/boards/...d.php?t=171225

I don't remember if Scorpia's origin was given before or not, I based it on the Medusa myth because that seemed appropriate for her and lots of fans have suggested something like that for years. Count Sneer and Crimson Fury are from a UK magazine story that featured Scorpia as the main villain.

The nod to Medusa in Scorpia's bio is great! And Queen Marlena looks beautiful! Again, great work on all of these! It's a great and fun mix of the canons. Thank you for sharing.
I love an all inclusive canon!

Since we know Filmation MOTU and Bravestarr were placed in the same universe, are there any chances to see your take on Marschall Bravestarr some day?

He and Rio Blast could have had visited the same Space Marshall Academy for instance....
Maybe Marzo as an archenemy was the biggest thing to happen to Mekaneck, but as far as Marzo was concerned...it was Tuesday.

She about the only Bravestarr character I could see transitioning over and fitting in with MOTU characters.
I refer to one of gbagok's posts.

Hey, gbagok, I noticed some spelling and grammar errors (you don't have to take my advice, but I would like to offer it):

    Stratos' bio.

    This:

Stratos is a brave honorable warror allied with King Randor.

    Should be:

Stratos is a brave, honorable warrior allied with King Randor.

In Zodac's bio: the comma should be a semi-colon:

...to become a Cosmic Enforcer; beings tasked...

    Also, isn't Masque a Lord?

Count Marzo's bio: Witness is missing the second s.

Pyroah's bio: loyalty is missing the y.

Lodar's bio: insited should be incited. Essence is missing the c.

Horde Prime's bio: there should be a semi-colon: "Ancients; the celestial beings"

Moss Man's bio: the "Ancients'" does not need the apostrophe. Aide should be aid. It's a tricky one because if you said "Moss Man is an aide" that would be correct, but you're using it in the sense of help, which is aid.

Illumina's bio: no comma is needed here: "Illumina, revealed herself..." Should lieutenant have a capital "L" like the capital "C" on Captain or no, since it's a lower rank?

Webstor's bio: there should be a comma inbetween advanced and dominant.

Shadow Weaver's bio: needs comma: Now, seemingly the...

Tytus' bio: After He-Ro's death, <- comma needed. ...for his heir; <- semi-colon instead of comma. Incorporating should be incorporated.

Strobo's bio: aide should be aid (both times).

Not trying to be nit-picky, just trying to help! I stopped at Strobo. I'll continue if you want me to.

I can't believe you did this! Could I have a link to the Scorpia art file? I would like to use it for my stats card, this version is awesome, and you wrote a great bio. Had no idea you were a fan of her. Your bio makes her feel almost like Medusa.

Also noticed that you added classic art headshots to your bio pages. That's great! Love this stuff!

Keclar is naturally from the UK comics, and I'm fairly sure that both that Marlena picture and the scorpia one are as well, though I am unsure what issues exactly.

I'm glad people are liking the classic art! I wanted to show off that everyone has appeared officially in MOTU before (and not always in cartoons). If anyone sees a non-cartoon appearance of Fangman or Lizard Man, I'd love to use that too!

Marlena comes form page 12 of the Rock Warriors Golden Book.
Scorpia's pic, along with some details from her bio, comes from the UK magazine story The Crimson Fury.
Keclar's pic is a sketch of Sir Alec Guiness. And it appeared in the UK story The Third Sword (as did Horde Prime's old school picture).
