I actually started out by giving her a Faker-like vibrant cerulean skin. While it looked really striking, it also made her look too much like a Smurf, which wasn't quite what I going for, her being a dark sorceress and all. (I think it might have had to do with her outfit being mostly desaturated dark purple and white/silver). I turned for the real world for ideas, and looked at animals and people(!) with blue skin to come up with something that felt more right. I think I may have had the ashen skin of MYP Evil-Lyn and the purple concept Sorceress subconsciously affecting the decision as well.

Maybe when she's doing court-magic and such, she has a completely different outfit? But when she inevitably ends up in the thick of it, she dons her old stripes and starts kickin' butt!
I like the idea a lot. I made a manipulation of the finished Sibylline in gold and blue, and even though all the dark bronze bits translate nicely to shiny gold, the rest of her attire would need to be redesigned for the brilliant blue. Too bad she's a side character, she'd be perfect for making one of those A-list variants!

    Okay, here's Sybilline:

I mostly added a lot of beadwork to her hair and outfit with a lot of teardrop motifs since she's the Sorceress of the Isle of Tears . And added three cobra heads to add that it's an attempted replica of the Staff of Ka.

I hope to be fully finished with Zilora before Sunday, I have to go to my mother's and hopefully her internet is working so I can post it form there, but it's a big maybe. (fingerscrossed )

Got some neat ideas there, block-man. =) Buut... I kind of feel that I have to give you a critique that will only help you. You gotta' redo her left arm mate ( to the right in the picture), the perspective got really weird, so you shortened it in the wrong place, methinks.

Any of you pencillers and painters that could give Block a better critique? Maybe even a quick over-sketch with red lines, so he can fix it quickly.

Well, shoot, I did shade her arms so you could tell the perspective she's reaching out. I stayed as close to the reference as I could here: http://senshistock.deviantart.com/ga...42276#/d1ci55r She's my favorite stock model, especially since she reminds me of Teela .

The biggest, most obvious problem is with the hand itself: it's far too small. Even held next to the face it should cover the face from the chin to half-way between eyebrows and hairline. When the hand is extended towards the viewer, it should become even larger proportionally because of perspective. Note how it seems to be smaller than the right hand, which is facing away from us.

I can't see the reference photo because I'm not a deviantart member, so I can't tell if the palm of the hand should be facing towards us or up. If it's towards us, the hand needs to be both wider and longer. If up, then the foreshortening needs a lot more work. Either way, the hand needs to be enlargened so that it looks in proportion with rest of the body.

The forearm is also problematic, but it's mostly due to the bracelet/vambrace (or whatever the correct term is). It doesn't seem to conform to the foreshortening to the arm, which makes the forearm look like a stump rather than something we are viewing from the front.

Since I can't see the photo, but I know it's there, my advice is to carefully look at the proportions there, even measure them if need be. To draw from life you need to learn how to measure how big something is in proportion to other parts of the body. Later you'll instinctively know these proportions and be able to use them in drawing, so it pays off.

    Here's Zilora:

So I went pretty heavy on the Pulp/sci-fi warrior queen alla Deja Thoris. I'm scanning this from my mom's computer and would rather put out a better quality scan on my own later. Hope she looks better then Sybilline did .

Both, your Zilora and your Sibylline are great designs and i like that you really challenging yourself with these poses you give them!

Please keep it up and like every artist, like everyone of us, you just get better and better with every new piece.

I like your tear theme on Sibylline and now a gladiator inspired Zilora

Hey Pyre! Glad to see you could make it, man. =) So they're jousting, eh? You've got some great detail there, but I think you could perhaps have coloured it slightly less dark, some of the details kind of blends away.

The scans working decently mate, so don't sweat it too much. And yeah, this one turned out better. Rather like this battle-ready stance she's sportin'. It clearly let's us know she's a completely different type of character than Sibylline.

You made it! Is the fighting over the snake-staff symbolic, to show that they've both wielded the same staff, or is there actually some kind of time-travel story or some such, behind it?

I better post my colour-job of Bulun's Zilora ASAP!

I was going to polish this up a bit before I posted it, but some other stuff came in-between. Oh well, it's not too bad.
