    New He-Lok art

Manyof you are familiar with my storyline, Secrets of Grayskull, and it's main character, He-Lok. I still use the wonderful art by sllohcin as the definitive image of He-Lok. But I have a friend who I don't believe is an .Org member who does some wonderful work, who I asked to do a new design of He-Lok, for a planned tattoo. He sent me the preliminary sketch today:

I told him that so far, the only change I want is to get rid of the asinine hex/asterisk, and replace it with the classic iron cross.

    Feedback?

It's GrAyskull. It's posted all over the packaging and this site.
CANON-the body of rules, principles, or standards accepted as axiomatic and universally binding in a field of study or art, such as a storyline
CANNON-a mounted gun for firing heavy projectiles; a gun, howitzer, or mortar.

I'm not familiar with the story, nor the Sllohcin pic of him, but I think the 2002 He-man hex looks better on him than the iron cross, keeping him from being confused with a more serious He-Man.

More serious? And, I didn't mind most of the design changes for 200X, but I despised the hex. And you can go to the link in my signature for the story.

My personal opinion is the arms need to be reworked, they look a bit to big & malformed, very unnatural. The torso is much more in line with the head while the legs are short & the arms are long. Even if you are going for a stylized look, those appendages need some work imho.

I'm going to give a detailed and open criticism, because tattoos are something I don't take lightly. A tattoo is (or at least should be) decision that lasts for a lifetime, so I think quality control ought to be extra tight. It's certainly what I would want in this situation.

Like JafariStew already pointed out, the head and torso are good while the arms and legs are... not. I'd say the deltoids and biceps are ok, but then there are some major problems. Even if for the sake of stylistic exaggeration you wanted to keep the disproportionate hands, the muscles still need work. It seems to me that the forearm muscles are all over the place, brachioradialis becoming one with the brachialis in one arm, attaching somehow behind the triceps in the other, unless it's the extensors? (My anatomical latin isn't very strong so I hope you get my meaning). I wouldn't say the arms above the wrist are too long though, because all the extra length appears to come from the hands.

I think the legs should be longer even with all the exaggeration going on. If they are shorter than the head+torso, I'm afraid the end result is going to look a bit comical due to how the hand size changes the overall arm length.

    That's my two cents.

Keep in mind that this was just his preliminary sketch. Here's his He-Man image that got me interested in him doing He-Lok:

I didn't find the story at the link, and licked every button I saw there...

As for "More Serious", since the He-fans only recognize the Iron Cross on He-man, to put the Iron Cross on He-Lok will have them think he's He-man, and not a different character.
