After I made my original post I figured it is from a mirrorverse.

Ok. Since it's a mirrorverse then it's Queen Hssssssssssssss that goes around eating everyone's relatives right?

Which would make it Zodak's sister and Y'Vonn sister right?

    I agree with your points.

If I could draw well, I think I'd draw lots of faces too - we're a portrait prone culture (...to say nothing of invisible Mohammed & face-veils/coverings). Plus, I've always felt that the human face is very expressive of thoughts and feelings (more so than, say, a landscape or bowl of fruit anyway )

    - so when playing Dr. Frankenstein with your own imaginary humanoid species, you have the opportunity to add those subtle bodily-symbols that animals carry on their heads. Ones that indicate health, sex, age, virility, or the more subtle signs on faces that seem to parallel a person's character - whether a "cruel mouth" or "shifty eyes" (I'm just being clichéd to be clear), the face has a wide range of possibilities (especially if you're going to stick horns or wires on it!).

Like the recent Mer-Man of yours - you've got the "Deep One" feeling in how alien, cold & hybrid Mer-Man is, along with the usual scabrous look of his aquatic complextion - plus you have that great motif of the sea-creature shells, jaws, bones & parts that so appropriately make-up the armour. He's scary like an armed, walking lantern fish...

What I'm saying is that I see lots of great art here & when it is backed-up with explanation, rationale - when you've imagined it's context as a reality, you get (in my opinion) superior art rather than something that it mostly style & sensation.

I also suspect that the face is a great muse for this - there are reflections of it (us) all around (in our language & the deeper perceptions that this is built upon) e.g.: mountains frown, hills have browns, buildings loom, horizons glower or welcome, etc.
