Weaponeers of Monkaa by Spy Monkey Creations

I thought I'd start a separate thread for the Weaponeers of Monkaa figures Spy Monkey launched at PowerCon here in the Other section since they are their own beast AND, frankly, they deserve their own thread!

For those that missed it, Spy Monkey (who create the weapons sets that are compatible with 6''/7'' figures, including MOTUC) have created their own line of robot figures. They use the Glyos system like the weapon's sets which mean they are compatible with them and that you can swap them all around and make new toys!

Right now there are four main characters (Empyreus, Palidar, Umbreus and Brutok) and 2 sort of henchman characters, the Crystal and Magma Gohlems. I got one of each, except Empyreus, which I got two of. They also work really well with the "Close Combat" weapons packs they just designed. Each comes with a trading card (which is awesome) and I also bought the print that featured the art for all the characters. You can see them here:

    Attachment 79174

Of course, half the fun is making your OWN stuff. I made one based on The Prince of Crystal (that Backyard Legends are putting out, which is of course an homage to Crystar.)

The first night after I got these at PowerCon I played around with the Umbreus and Brutok sets (I think I also utilized a head from the head pack set) and made this awesome guy:

But now I liked them so much I'm going to have to buy more so I can have the original characters too... I had planned on just taking them apart and rebuilding other guys but I think I have to change that plan. LOL.

I was already all in for these before the reveal, but...

Crystar, man. You may have doubled my order with that.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out how many more I need. I really do want to have a set of the main guys to display, but I keep liking the guys I'm building too much to tear them down again. I got the full set at PowerCon plus an extra Empyreus and a few weapon packs.

You'll want to before the end, believe me.

Here's a link to a video of a couple of creature / beastie builds I did.
Neither are fully contained builds but the left over bits are useful as weapons for other figures.

    The Steel Vohrse =
2 Palidars + 1 Cold Steel Armory + 1 Cold Steel Close Combat set

    The Monkaarian Cragghopper =
1 Brutok + 1 Venom Close Combat set

    @JonWes, that Crystar is fantastic!

Here's what I did with the four main sets and two weapons packs...

    GLOWTRION

    SKYHOOK

    PUNCTURE

    ROLLERBLADES

Admittedly, my naming skills may not be the greatest, but these things are so much fun!

Scotward - those are some cool builds! I like the guy with the wheels on the bottom. I am planning on buying a few more armory sets for that sort of thing, actually.

    Edit:
The store is live on spymonkeycreation's website! I just got my next wave of stuff! It ended up being a hefty total, but now I'll have enough to keep one of each core character in tact and plenty of extras to make new characters and things from. I really hope we see some more colors and characters before too long, too! Although my wallet could use a rest.

How do the new eapons paks work with MOTUC figures? Are they fully compatible like the old sets? Can I get Trap Jaw that awesome hook?

Glow in the dark must happen!

I'd love it if they did some variations of GID colors too. I know I used to see more toys in GID blue and GID red. You just don't see those much in general, these days. Mostly just green. I have two sets of the Toxic Armory I'd love to combine with some Weaponeers parts!

I also suggested some color change plastic might be cool too.

Yes the new weapons and parts for Monkaa are fully compatible with MOTUC and all the previous Spy Monkey stuff. At PowerCon they had a display of figures like Trap Jaw holding new creations from the Monkaa weapons pack

Placed an order! I can't buy a ton right now, so I just got Empyreus for starters, and then threw on an orange/blue armory set and a clear orange close combat armory set for future use with Cy-Chop. If these don't sell out then I'll be back for more later!

Man, I want this figures, but shipping costs are insane, I often receive packages from the United States, but I can`t believe that shipping for a few figures cost around 48$...

Yikes that is a lot! I got 2 armory sets and about 8 figures, shipped for $10 here in the US. I wonder if something is messed up with their system.

I don't know if there is anything wrong, they are pretty heavy figures. We are talking about 2-3lb worth and if its going tracked via Priority Mail you could easily spend $30-50.

It depends on the total shipping weight, I sent 3-4 packages a week to Germany for Monster High and the shipping can run anywhere from $34-75 since each doll is almost 2lb

If its going First Class International then there might be a glitch

No, when they announced their armoury sets they announced the shipping rates and why international costs so much, I had to buy more sets than I initially wanted to make it make sense and I'm only in Canada. I forget the rate and reasoning but they apologized to us internationals for it.

sets like this glyos and the outerspace men just confirm how good modulok and multibot would go over. esp if they made the connecting pieces compatible with these sets.

They lowered the prices for Canada and Mexico last time. That was cool of them.
A problem this time is that the new combat sets count as a full 'set' despite looking like tiny packages, so that's problematic for shipping (I can only order 6 sets, or I'll pay $33 for even one extra). There's no way they take up that much room in the small box.

As for these figures: not my thing, but they do look nice. Great colour schemes, and very clever parts sharing. I wish them the best of luck with this.

No problem. Don't know why the video is so tiny, though.

They are amazing. I'm itching for my order from yesterday to ship so I can make some more guys!

I thought I didn't have enough parts left to make a cohesive look. For a while I had an amalgam guy just using lots of different colors. But after a little thinking and supplementing from some of the armor sets I had, I managed to come up with a guy!

I call him Cragos, and he is (of course) a pirate:
    Attachment 79369

P.S. - I really like the swirly plastic they use for the gray parts.
In the "Geeks Shall Inherit" podcast Brian of SMC mentioned maybe the next run would be in metallic, which would be awesome. he also mentioned diamond and obsidian Gohlem! Which I also want!!! At the booth I said a color change would be cool. If they did something like the Stealth **** exclusives that'd be VERY cool.
