    Black Friday 2012

What all did everybody get that got in on some good Black Friday deals? This is starting off as one of the worst for me. I tried to get the Brave blu-ray on Amazon and it sold out in about 1 second. Then, I drove by Wal-Mart at 8 pm and the entire parking lot was full, so I didn't bother. I'm not a big fan of these earlier store opening times. Now, there are even more people out. Not that I was ever a huge Black Friday person, but at least when it used to be 5 or 6 am when stores opened, it would weed some people out.

I wish they hadn't opened for Thursday, I do however think they should do like online retailers are starting to do and make it more a week long thing. With Certain sales on certain days, to help create better traffic flow for people just looking for particular items.

But I also wish people would see more than a big price drop as a good deal, a lot of the stuff marked down is being marked down at best to a price it should have been in the first place.

I know better than to go to a store tomorrow, I live in the middle f nowhere with 1 Walmart to cover a 15-mile radius so the place will be packed, and by the time I could get there anything good would be gone.

With many of the same deals offered weeks ago and the exponential increase in on-line shopping, imo in-store Black Friday madness is going the way of the buggy whip. I get that some people are into the event -- some people are also into masochism -- but I just don't get being caught in a malestrom in order to save a hundred bucks. If it takes five hours and you're saving a hundred bucks, that means your time and torment is worth twenty bucks an hour. Time with my family is worth much more than that to me.

I've been getting some pretty good "Black Friday Week" deals online mainly through Amazon. I picked up the Alien Anthology Blu-Ray set for $25 (which later went down to $20 - doh!), Prometheus for $12.99, the Superman Anthology on Blu-Ray for $54.99. And just tonight I got Pulp Fiction on Blu-ray for $3.99, Doom 3 for PS3 for $20, Kingdom Hearts 3D for 3DS for $15, and I just barely snagged myself the lightening deal on Transformers Fall of Cyberton for PS3 for $25. Right now I'm on the wait list for Lego Batman 2 for $15 for PS3.... it will be nice if that goes through, but if it doesn't, no biggie. I got some good deals. I'm going to try to take it easy now, as I've already spent more than I should have in the first place.

My wife and I went to Walmart's Event 1 starting at 8:00pm. We purchased 12 dvd & blu-ray movies for a total of $64.31 after using Walmart's Match Ad Guarantee. We had them match prices from Meijer, Target, Best Buy, and Kmart).

Easiest Black Friday (or rather Thursday) ever as we grabbed our movies, checked out, and were walking to our vehicle after only 23 minutes.

    We got:
    Hunger Games $7.00
    Brave $8.96
    Footloose $4.96
    We Bought a Zoo $4.96
Snow White & the Huntsman $7.00
    The Lucky One $4.00
Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Reader $1.96
    Wrath of the Titans $4.96
    Amazing Spider-Man $8.96
    Expendables $3.99 (x2)
Live Free or Die Hard $1.96
    Unstoppable $1.96

Big Bang Season 5 was snatched up in seconds at Walmart, so after I got home I purchased it online at Best Buy for $8.99 as well as Chuck Season 5 for $9.99. Both with free shipping.

After a family breakfast we drove out in the country to to Dudek's Christmas Tree Farm, where we've been going the day after Thanksgiving for seventeen years. Cheerful families were everywhere, whishng strangers a Merry Christmas as the first snowflakes of the eason gently fell. We huddled together as we rode on a sleigh pulled by a team of horses, picked out our tree, cut it down, had some hot chocolate in their country store and brought our tree home strapped atop my Hummer. Now we're going to decorate it with Christmas music playing while we sip eggnog with a touch of rum in it. Our handyman arrives in about an hour to mount our 60" wreath on the second floor above our wentrance doors. (I confess I'm getting a little too old to handle that anymore, although I do string all the outside lights around the windows...on our home's first floor. )

We'll end the day with Kim's homemade turkey pot pies. This is my kind of Black Friday.

Congrats to everyone that found bargains and got what they wanted, but I have no interest in black Friday whatsoever; decided to stop going out in that mess about 6-7 years ago when I saw people at our BestBuy at noon on Thanksgiving day (can't compete with that!). I am all for getting a good/great deal, but I refuse to wait hours in line to SPEND money on things that are not necessities.

This was my first Black Friday out, and it was only because I worked my new, part-time retail job today. I didn't have a lot of money to spend and refused to patronize stores that opened on Thanksgiving, but I went out of my way to run through JCPenney before work because they gave their employees ALL of Thanksgiving off. I've always like JCP anyway, and I'm glad I went because I got a really nice pair of flannel pajamas and a pair of fleece Hello Kitty pajama pants, all for $21. I don't have to shop for Christmas gifts this year because we're doing homemade Christmas, but I really did need new winter pajamas.

Once again as I work in a store, I had to work. I can say I had no jerkbags come in to shop during my shift.
Which was weird because usually that's the clientele that shows up every year. On any typical year I would be telling every other
person that because they refused to go out into the mosh pit of hyper violent soccer moms, and sanctimonious yupsters at 4am
they wouldn't be getting a special sale price, and that no they aren't special. Or I'd have to put up with people trying to pry me away
from a customer I'm already helping, or cursing me out because their stupidity is somehow my fault. Or whiny kids, with parents who refuse
to take them outside, and do some actual parenting.

But I had none of this. It was a surreal experience. People were actually being kind, or patient. People would actually say "No thank you"
politely when they wanted to cheap out on extras, and actually LISTEN before doing so. So Black Friday was actually surprisingly ok.

Now I'm sure elsewhere it was my typical Black Friday, I was just thankful I didn't have to deal with 8 hours of it on top of crowds.

I bought nothing as I didn't escape until 10pm, but I did take advantage of the pre Thanksgiving sale on Amazon a few days ago.
I got Steam Keys for Binary Domain, and the Saints Row season pass for $9 (Normally $40), and $5 (Normally $30) respectively. After I got home from my sister's
on Thanksgiving I did notice Steam started a sale (Can't help but notice it's what I see when I log in to launch a game to unwind with),
and nabbed the Rockstar pass for Max Payne 3 for $7.49 (Down from $40)

So I guess if you need to buy anybody in the family video games, Steam has some great deals if they're willing to play the Windows versions (Most of which work fine
    with a 360 game pad) www.steampowered.com

I went to the 8pm event at Wal-Mart....WAY more people at 8...WAY more.

The line for the Games/DVDs/Blu-Rays was 4 aisles long...The line moved super quick....how I have no idea because once you got into the actual area it took 30 minutes just to move the entire length.

And it totally is these super annoying 40 - 50 year old white women who dont work for their own money (sorry but its true)...walking down the opposite side of everyone or walking right in the middle or shoving their cart into people...and then its always oh so sorry....I didnt even realize I was being an uber ****.

But with the Matty Sale/Barnes & Noble online I am totally cool with skipping BF next year unless they have something fun fpr cheap!

Laugh if you want to...but I am SO upset I did not get the $.96 Maclintock DVD. Hulu has it with 11....11 commercials. Its freaking nearly 1/3 of the movie! John Wayne is cool and all but...
