Post-SDCC "Battle Royal" Poll - Your input requested

Thanks to everyone who voted/is voting in the mainpage polls and in the voting threads.

Currently, the Variants voting thread is open. Next up will be Jetlag (NA cartoon) and then Concepts & Prototypes. When those polls are all wrapped up, we're taking the winning characters from EACH of the six polls and putting them into a final "battle royal" type poll to determine the very TOP most-wanted characters in MOTUC.

How should the character spread be distributed?

No more than 25 characters TOTAL will be in the final poll.

We'll be choosing the top characters from the:

    Filmation poll
    200X poll
    Mini-Comics & Other Media poll
    Variants poll
    Jetlag (NA cartoon) poll
    Concepts & Prototypes poll

How should we break it down?

If we break it down evenly, each group would get their 4 top picks used plus one extra "floating" character. If we do it that way, to which "grouping" should the extra 25th slot go?

Alternately, we could do it in such a way that some grouping get more options than others.

For example, please post it like this to make it easy for me to keep track:

    Filmation - top 5
    200X - top 4
    Mini-Comics & Other Media - top 5
    Variants - top 5
    Jetlag - top 3
    Concepts & Prototypes - top 3

In other words, should we give precedence to one grouping over another due to popularity or should we distribute evenly? If we distribute evenly, which group do we give the extra "1" to in order to hit 25 total?

Again, this is just for fun in order to see what we, as a fanbase, want the most. There is no connection to Mattel's planned roadmap and this is no indication of what's coming.

EDIT: We can reasonably assume that all MOTU and POP vintage characters, sans variants and some NA characters, are on the planned roadmap for 2014 & 2015 based on Scott's responses on Matty, RGD, the Org, etc. These Org polls are specifically meant to determine interest in characters outside of core vintage toys.

If you want to find out about the top most wanted characters in MOTUC this should include all the eras and factions IMO. So in other words I think there should be a vintage poll first. Otherwise we'll never find out if, say, Rotar is more popular than Huntara for example.

More people are interested in FILMATION than anything else and tolerate the rest. I think thatīs not fair but itīs the truth so giving FILMATION a top 5 is in order(more or less). 200X wit top 4 sounds okay as well. Mini-Comics & Other Media - top 5….why not there are a lot of different characters. Variants…now those are tricky…i think individual characters should get more attention than variants of existing MOTUC figures right now so 4 is enough if you ask me. Jetlag may not be the most famous faction but they had their own series so i think they deserve 4 spots as well. That leaves a top 3 for Concepts and Prototypes. But thatīs only my opinion.

    Filmation - top 5
    200X - top 4
    Mini-Comics & Other Media - top 5
    Variants - top 4
    Jetlag - top 4
    Concepts & Prototypes - top 3
*Toy version Catra *Sagitar *Drissi *Lizorr *Zilora *Battle Armor Queen Marlena *Quartzara(Minicomic Comet Warrior) *Lady Slither

Does it have to be 25 in total? Why not just the top 3 of every category?
Proud supporter of the Snake Men.

Most Wanted: Slave Girl, Lizorr, T-Rex, Great Black Wizard, rest of New Adventures, MOP Demons, Dream Mistress.
Most Wanted Filmation: Ileena, Twiggets, Dragoon, Widgets, Dark Dream, Lady Valtira, Count Marzo, Chimera.

No Slave Girl? Watch us hurl!

    Mini-Comics & Other Media - top 2
    Variants - top 5
    Jetlag - top 2
    Concepts & Prototypes - top 2

There are many more popular Filmation characters than the other categories combined, so Filmation should get the most places put into the final poll for sure!

I can think of two ways to determine this.

One - look at the number of votes cast for each poll and the total number of votes cast across all polls. The resulting percentage could be the percentage of spots from that poll. For example, if the Filmation poll got 30% of the vote, then it would get 30% of the slots.

Second - there could be another poll where fans could rank order the factions - just like we've been doing. The first faction gets the most characters, which could be predetermined, and the second faction gets the second most number of figures. For example, you could say that the first faction would get 6 slots and the second faction would get 5 slots. Then based on the poll results, we would know how many figures from each.

That's how I would do it too.

There aren't that many Jetlag characters or Prototypes to choose from, so I think it's fair to give those slots to the other categories.

It's easy just to tally each categories votes up, example Filmation is now on 67 and then divide it by the number of voters (10) to get your average vote, which so far is: 6 or 7 rounded up. That's the fairest way to do it as it represents what people want. Personally I'd prefer lots more Filmation than Concepts or 200x. Dividing it up equally won't represent what the voters actually want.

Proportional to their category size in relation to total character polled.

So, total up all the polls to get your sum characters.

Divide each category total by that sum to get the proportion percentage.

Then multiply that percentage by 25 (the total # of characters in Battle Royale) to see how many to select from each category (should equal 25 when all is said and done). Round at your discretion if needed.

The characters polled vs how many we select in the threads varies, but if you know how many will be polled in each of the upcoming polls it would be easy to figure out.

I'm glad Danielle is doing this because this all sounds a lot like story problems in math.

    LOL!

This is just feedback to see how folks rate everything in comparison. I had thought about doing a comparison to the # of voters in each poll to get the breakdown. My only concern there is that the polls might get fewer voters each time simply out of lack of interest in voting as opposed to an actual measure of interest in each poll's subject matter.

For now, this is all about seeing how fans feel the spread should be. It gives some insight on interest.

Doing it by voters would give a more value driven result I think but the distribution may seem more lopsided for some categories thus upsetting fans of a particular category.

You could always look at what the allotment would be for both methods, proportional by voters vs proportional by category size. Then go with what your gut says.
