I suspect they'll aim to have them pressed, but it probably comes down to quantity and cost.

Update that came via e-mail today:
    Hey Power of Grayskull Backers!

Just wanted to let you know that things are still moving along well. We appreciate all your video submissions for those that were invited to submit, and want to thank everyone that took the time to fill out the name survey last November so we could include your details in our final cut.

Speaking of which, due to some legal tomfoolery, we had to unlock our locked cut & make some modifications, then resubmit for our distributor. But yes -- that means we have a distribution deal in place! It's a great deal but it doesn't cover everything which is why things are still a bit quiet on our end. While we continue to make things happen we are taking things into our own hands. For example, in order to ensure that you, the backers, get discs ahead of the rest of the world, we will likely author them ourselves. This costs us more time and money but it's important to reward you folks first. Unlocking the cut added about 30 hours of extra time that Mark and the guys spent recrafting things but we're on the right path.

It's hard to say when we can announce more specifics about distribution and the disc shipping but that's thanks to more legal ironing behind the scenes.

Thanks again for all your patience and we'll share more as it becomes available!

    Rob, Randall, Mark, & Isaac!

Heeey, what happened to the 'Chasing Grayskull' episodes?!
There's only 4 of them and the last one was released almost two years ago...

If I remember correctly there were 19 'Chasing Turtles' episodes released before their TMNT documentary came out...

C'mon guys, please show us anything to ease the long wait... Have Randall and Rob sing us The Secret of the Sword's 'I have the Power' or SOMETHING...

Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the MOTU documentary from Definitive Films will debut on Netflix this August 24th!

An astute reader of fan culture on the Internet, particularly those of us in the MOTU community, might have noticed a few things happening over the past week or so. These events line up pretty nicely, especially if you're one of those who backed Definitive Film's forthcoming feature documentary The Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

You probably remember that this film, from a mash-up of the filmmakers behind Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Nintendo Quest: The Most Unofficial and Unauthorized Nintendo Documentary Ever!, has been in production for quite a while, although they did have an exciting screening of their most recent cut of the film at Power-Con last year...

Well, it finally looks like they're gearing up for a release!

Kickstarter backers have been receiving communications suggesting that tier reward packages will be processing very soon and, even more interesting, sites tracking Netflix's release schedules recently let a cat or two out of the bag.

Below is a paragraph from shortlist.com:

"The Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

    Cast: He-Man, Dolph Lundgren
This Kickstarter-funded documentary featuring the one and only Dolph Lundgren is an in-depth look at one of the 1980s' best-loved relics, a toy line turned cartoon turned movie turned everything. The team behind this made the excellent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle documentary Turtle Power (also on Netflix) and really know their onions.

Coming to Netflix on August 24th.

I reached out to the filmmakers for their comment and received the email version of shrugs because they aren't able to comment on any release plans at this time.

I did confirm however that they have plans in place to ensure that backers will have a chance to watch the documentary before any mass distribution, regardless of what how quickly the packages can be mailed out.

Over the last few years, I've gotten to know these guys fairly well and I'm sure that, whatever they've planned, they're taking the needs of the fan community and their Kickstarter backers very seriously and no matter what happens, we'll see the results of their hard work soon!"

Hope to see you at Power-Con, America's Mightiest Toy Convention!

I hope they are pressed discs at least since I dropped $50 for it. If I get a burned blu-ray and it shows up for free for anyone who has Netflix a very short time later, it would be disappointing.

Not that they aren't sending a pressed copy, but.... why would a burned one be disappointing? Wasn't the pledge about supporting the documentary and making it happen?

Fans weren't sending money to buy a Blu-Ray. Fans were donating money and getting that disc as a perk. Only X amount of what someone donates would go into paying for production of the disc versus Y amount going towards the production of the project. And I'm sure the lion's share goes towards the project, as that's the point of the donation. So with that in mind, what would be wrong with a burned copy if that's what they sent out?

Isaac here, one of the Definitive Film crew. There will be big updates coming to all backers within days, if not today. Fear not, we won't be sending out burnt copies Although that might have been cheaper now that you mention it

So there we go. No burned copy. So you all get the benefit of supporting the documentary, AND they are sending out a more expensive pressed copy of the documentary as a perk.

    Hi Isaac, thanks for posting.
Is it possible for you not to state the pledge amount on the customs for when posting to international fans? Isn't the pledge for the production of the film and not the DVD itself, which is a reward for supporting the project?
I recently supported a KickStarter for a Star Wars related DVD project at a similar amount of $39 + $16 P&P and the full $55 was declared as the value on the customs form and as such I was hit with a hefty customs fee.
I wouldn't want you guys to to anything illegal or anything but if it's possible not to declare the pledge amount on the customs form then that would be greatly appreciated by international supporters.
    Thanks.

I just watched the doc and several of the extras, and the folks at Definitive / FauxPop did a great job on this. Lots of familiar faces from these boards past and present make appearances, and it was just a great overview of the history of He-man from the 80s to now.

I think everyone is really going to enjoy this.

I'm downloading the digital copy now, but I'm kind of torn and want to wait for the actual blu ray to get the whole experience of opening it up and popping it in the player. Any idea when we'll actually be getting these in the mail? It sounds soon, like maybe a couple weeks?

There's numerous sites that post what's coming from Netflix in August that have it listed.

I suspect very soon. Definitive Films said their plan was to get the physical copy out to backers before it streams on Netflix.

I got the email with the link to the digital copy on Sat night just before I went to bed. I wish I'd left it downloading over night. I started it off Sun morning and it was a whooping 10.9Gb big, it took about 6 hours to download. Left it downloading the bonus content today.

I really enjoyed the documentary. Great to see so many familiar faces in it. Especially glad to see Dean Stefan in there.
Scott is holding something in a couple of clips, it kind looks like a long smoking pipe, does anybody know what it is?
Great to see lots of art in there thats not been shown before.
I especially the Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella interviews and to hear how fondly they spoke of the movie.
