Hey guys, I'm a 35 year old MOTU fan. I remember fondly owning and playing with motu toys when I was a kid. Recently I was on eBay and felt so happy to see some of the old toys, the packaging alone gave me goosebumps. I want to start collecting, but the toys are so expensive, that I would feel so guilty paying so much money for each figure. I saw the commemarative ones which are less pricey, I'm just wondering do they keep their value? I want to keep these and just look at them whenever I feel nostalgic. Can someone give me advice, I saw the classic collection but they don't have that same feel as the vintage ones.

I say collect what you want. There's no reason to spend a lot of money if you don't want to. Just buy what you like and what makes you happy.
Hope to see you at Power-Con, America's Mightiest Toy Convention!

Welcome, man! Collecting vintage is awesome! Best of luck!

I love my commemorative. With a couple of exceptions, they're just like the vintage!

If you're not married to the packaging, most of the vintage toys can be had very cheaply, especially the first several waves of toys. A nice He-Man and Skeletor can be a bit pricey (probably $40 for a nice He-Man who is complete and in good shape), but others like Man-At-Arms, Mer-Man, Tri-Klops, etc can be found in pretty nice condition for $10-$15 each. Some like Faker can run closer to 20 or so. Most are probably in the $10-$15 range.

If you do buy loose, you can use this as a guide to make sure you're getting all the accessories (assuming you want them all)
