Anyone else loving the Mezco 1:12 Collective?

Just put in the pre-order for Daredevil & Captain America. If anyone hasn't checked them out yet they're really something. Mezco-One12-Collective-Daredevil-007.jpgCaptain-America-One12-Collective-009.jpg

I've got a standard Dredd and Batman figure, I've got Shazam on order and I'll be grabbing Space Ghost when he's available and possibly Frankenstein as I do like my Universal Monsters stuff.

They look nice, but to me Marvel Select figures are just as nice and $30-40 cheaper (I think I'll stick with Marvel Select )

I love my Dark Knight Returns Batman, but I was disappointed with Dredd...

I am really looking forward to Captain America (I hope all of the major Avengers follow suit...) and Daredevil looks good, but I still don't like those shoulder pads.

Overall, I see really good things for this line of figures. If the fabric costumes can stand the test of time, it should be a hit with as many properties as Mezco has planned for it.

I like my DKR Batman but IMO the non costumed heads suffer from bad sculpts.

The Steve Rogers, Matt Murdock, and Punisher heads all look pretty bad. It might though just be the paint ops. The Punisher one looks good but paint looks rather amateurish. These prototypes should have perfect paint.

I'm still not sure about this line-- I like Bats and Judge Dredd because the sculpts are influenced by the artists who drew the characters. Bats has a Frank Miller look and Dredd has a Brian Bolland look. I think it's the main thing (besides scale and price, of course) that really set the line apart from Hot Toys. But the new Marvel and DC figs all have this dead-eyed hyper-realistic look that doesn't appeal to me. Flash straight up looks goofy-- not because it's a bad sculpt, but because he looks like your boring middle aged neighbor. Punisher looks cool I guess, but it doesn't particularly look like any version of the character I remember-- maybe the Steve Dillon version, but not really.

I was super excited about Captain Marvel until I saw a close up of his face-- I'm still hoping they do an exclusive version with the C.C. Beck squinty or polka dot eyes the character had for the first 40+ years of his existence. This is a character whose primary villain is a worm-- he should look a little cartoony.

The cloth is impressive and well done, but not something I ever particularly wanted at the scale (save for Batman's cape, which is awesome). It does hinder articulation, though, which is the same problem most Hot Toys have. At some point you may as well have a statue...

I also don't get why we're getting updated costumes for Marvel characters, but classics costumes for DC. We're already getting updated Marvel characters through Hot Toys movie releases. I think this is another way they could have distinguished the line from Hot Toys-- give us high-end versions of the characters in their classics costumes.

I'll pick up the Mutant Leader, Space Ghost, and Frankenstein-- but that's it for now.

Yes definitely, definitely getting Space Ghost, I can't wait for him. Got myself the Mutant Leader yesterday, I've not had chance to open him up yet though.

I'll be getting him for sure but I wish he came with a desk & coffee mug. I'm hoping Brak, Zorak & Moltar will someday follow.

I get the appeal of some of these - but for me the Space Ghost perfectly represents why I personally really don't like cloth costume work on action figures and especially on 1/12 scale figures.

It's purely an aesthetic thing but for me it comes down to the fact that there is simply NO WAY to properly scale down the weave of the fabric and the stitching properly. Stitching on 1/12 scale figures is only marginally smaller than stitching on 1/1 fabric (ie: my clothes). The same is true of the weave of the fabric. To my eye it is highly evident on the space ghost figure. The weave pattern simply can't be made tight enough to properly represent clothing in a 1/12 scale and so figures with cloth accessories simply don't look right to me.

I totally understand why people dig on these figures, but I just can't pay the asking price for something that will continue to bug me.

And it's almost hypocritical - because certainly I can overlook the fact that actual people don't have articulation cuts in their joints and what not - but as a lifelong action figure collector I'm programmed to accept those as a part of action figures. For whatever reason the same does not apply with cloth costumes. The ALL look kitchy and retro to me - like my vintage Mego figures.

Holy crap!!! Mezco is all over the place with this line! I LOVE IT!!!

And this is just a small sample of what they have planned! BTW, that Harley Quinn is the very first FEMALE One:12 figure... not bad!

So I've slowed down on my Mezco One:12 collecting because, well, the characters and costumes were getting really bad... and the price was skyrocketing.

But, in lieu of the upcoming all-hallows-eve, I picked up the One:12 Jason Voorhees.

I gotta say, WOW! This is, unequivocally, the best One:12 figure available. His sculpt, paint, clothing, accessories and poseability are off the charts!!

I am really glad I picked this one up... worth every cent. Now, I've got to track down a decently priced Michael Myers...

I think it's an amazing and brilliant line. And it makes me really sad.

These should be the "Mego of 2020". They're everything I loved about Mego as a kid. I had Marvel, DC, TV show and movie characters that were all the exact same size and quality. They were super posable, sturdy and really about the best action figure line for kids ever made.

These new ones are all that and more. They gorgeously designed and sculpted, not only are they really well articulated, but they're tanks. They're really well made, sturdy toys. They're fantastic and the sheer amount of characters and properties is truly staggering.

But they're like 80.00+ each. They aren't something a kid can have a collection of. I imagine 90% of them end up up just posed on a shelf.

I probably had over 100 Mego figures in my childhood. I remember when they were 2.99 each. I could ALWAYS talk my mom into getting me a new one at the store. ALWAYS.

It should be the best kids toyline ever. But it never will be.

I agree. This is one of the saddest things about toy collecting today. MOTUC, Marvel Legends, Mezco One:12, Transformers Siege, Star Wars Black Series etc are all toys designed more for display rather than play. Play should always be the main purpose of a toy.

Here's hoping that Mattel's Origins line will rekindle that value in both children and adults today.

Funko has a good thing going with it's Savage World and like lines, but more retailers and customers need to get behind them.
