Let Super 7 and Brian Flynn know what you want in MOTUC

Since Classics is now in the hands of Super 7, I created this thread so that fans can express what they'd like to see for the future.

Those at SDCC should be sure to express their feelings to Super 7's Brian Flynn in person. Talk about the things YOU want to see in Classics and the things you DON'T want to see. If you want things like Granita, Dylamug, Lodar, Karg, Hawke, Quakke, Stridor, Lady Slither, The Twiggets, Sagitar, Horde Mummy, Hunga, King Miro, Snake Mountain, Attak Trak, etc. express that to him. Just based on my observations of what Super 7 digs, I'm concerned they may go down a different road.

Super 7 is awesome and I love the stuff they've done, such as the M.U.S.C.L.E. figures and Kenner-style figures. I want to make that clear. Those guys are doing really cool things.

I just feel that Classics (and Club Grayskull) isn't the place for artsy counterculture repaints or loads of unexpected new "vanity" characters in place of demanded characters. Don't get me wrong. If it's cool, an occasional new character here and there is awesome - i.e. Draego Man. However, loading the line up with hip new variants and lots of new characters is not the essence of Classics. I mean, do we want Karg, Granita, Lady Slither, and Lodar or do we want the Terror Jaguar, Terror Wolf, Terror Bat, and Possessed Skeletor from the new cartoon? Or do we want all of the above? For my money, if I had to pick between them, I'd certainly go with the first four (which were the top fan picks in last year's big poll). We've been collecting this line for 8 years, and those who are still collecting at this point are the hardcore hobbyists. It's up to us to give Super 7 clear feedback on what we want. Whether they choose to heed those requests is up to them. The ball is definitely in their court as far as that goes.

I love the punk DIY ethos and believe in it pretty strongly actually, but I can't say the counterculture vibe is right for Classics, or Club Grayskull. I think I know the desires of this fanbase pretty well and I can say quite confidently that a good majority of fans want long-desired characters vs. stuff like Dragon Blaster Tri-Klops or Test Shot Terror Aardvark.

So if you see Brian, just politely talk to him about what YOU want to see and don't be afraid to tell him what you don't want to see. Please encourage other fans there to do the same. If you aren't at SDCC, please post here or anywhere you frequent on the interwebs about your hopes.

With 2 words, you said it all!!!!

As for the figures, depends from how many Super 7 can release in a year. If we go with the current CC/CG sub sistem, for the Collector Choice the most popular are already known more or less:
    -Lodar
    -Sagitar
    -Stridor
    -Dylamag
    -Hawke
    -King/Captain Miro
    -Granita
    -Hunga the Harpy
    -Lady Slither
    -Fangor
    -200x Sorceress etc

Probably a New Adventures mini sub will needed too, to complete that faction.

Super 7 really doesn't understand the Pandora's Box that it's opened...ToyGuru can tell them! I don't think they're ready for this jelly (to quote the song).

That's all I need, but will be happy to support the new Classics line if the designs are cool.

There aren't many unique characters remaining that I truly want.

    Sagitar (Jetlag look)
    Artilla (Jetlag look)
    200X Captain Miro
    200X Hawke
    Queen Andreeno
    The ABC Giants (MYP)

What I'm really after are variants. Some of these are my preferred versions of certain characters and MOTUC has done a great job with presenting the fans with tons of display options when it comes to versions of characters. I'd love to see that aspect continue onward with Super 7's tenure.

    VARIANTS

    200X Evil-Lyn
    200X Sorceress
    200X Tri-Klops
    200X Teenage Prince Adam
    200X Teenage Teela
    General Rattlor (MYP)
200X King Randor and Queen Marlena
200X Battle Armor King Randor and Battle Armor Queen Marlena
    Ice Armor He-Man
    WMD Roboto
    Cardback Colors Ram Man
    Mini-Comic Tri-Klops
    Mini-Comic Trap Jaw
    Mini-Comic Blue Vest Prince Adam
    New 52 Green Goddess

As for what Super 7 already offers I'd love to see a couple hundred more M.O.T.U.S.C.L.E. sculpts. If I can get a big jar full of "flesh" Masters figures that's the same size as my MUSCLE jar, or as big as my Kinkeshi set, that'd be a little slice of heaven.

I'd also love to see some more sofubi Masters characters. I missed out on a full color Skeletor I guess (can't find it on your store, if one was ever sold) but hope to nab a full color Beastman if/when one's available.

The Reaction style figures are cool, but they kind of remove that bulkiness that I like so much about the original figures. Even the MUSCLE figures maintain the bulkiness, but the reaction are too emaciated for the characters.

As for Classics, to echo a lot of other people I want previously unmade characters that still exist. I'd love a Garth, Sebrian, Dree Elle and Montork (even Yukkers and the rest of the Trollans), most of the remaining NA characters and dozens of Filmation/MYP/Minicomic one-offs. I won't buy variants of existing characters anymore, and I'll be very selective about new characters.
Want to trade for Battle Beasts. Show me what you've got!!!!

Look at the fan polls, in short. That's the best indication of character selection I think there could be.

I'd like to see a brand new line with better articulation, multiple faces with different expressions, hands, action figure stands for dynamic posing, new versions of He-Man, Skeletor etc and also completely new characters. Start over. Make the line 6" scale like Marvel Legends and Starwars Black Series. Lots of different body types instead of nearly everything being made on the same buck.

Forget classics and give us something dynamic and fresh with lots of detail. Like the S H Figarts stuff.

    SNAKE MOUNTAIN!!!

Keep the classics aesthetic and make fan demanded/fan poll characters and vehicles like: Granita, Dylamug, Lodar, Karg, Hawke, Quakke, Stridor, Lady Slither, The Twiggets, Sagitar, Horde Mummy, Hunga, King Miro, Attak Trak, etc.

Also finish off the 8-Back giant figures: Teela and Mer-Man

(And figure out a way to continue Thundercats.)

I do not want gimmicky variants stuff for classics.

I'd love to see Stridor, Grantia, Sagitar, Mantisaur, Lodar and Attack Trak as far as Classics goes. For FILMation I'd love to see a hero–heavy year 2 since we're getting a lot of villains this year. A proper Teela, Man-at-Arms, Man-E-Faces, fully articulated Cringer, Fisto, Mer-Man and as an exclusive if they stick to a sub plan…a proper FILMation Hordak.
200X fan? Classic fan? What does that mean? I'm a MotU fan!!!

I agree. Look to the fan polls. Look at what fans want.

How would you guys feel about "all new" variants like Flying Fists Mekaneck and things of that nature? Or how about mostly new characters OVER vintage cartoon and comic characters?

Just theoretical questions based on possibilities I am pondering. For all I know, Super 7 has the top 20 most-wanted characters ready to roll (how I wish!)

    Just a theoretical question.

If the new characters were kick-ass, obviously yes- bring them on! But if we're getting things that look half-assed and cobbled together like Sir Laser Lot, Cy-Chop, that sort of stuff... forget it. I'd rather have Queen Elmora or Malektha!

Also, no crazy off-kilter shenanigans like Flying Fists Mekaneck (I assume you were sorta joking!). If they want to re-release older figures, I'm all for that. But have their variants be meaningful and pack them with new accessories or comics or whatnot. Just don't do what Mattel did in 200X... nobody thought Smash Blade He-Man or Samurai Skeletor were a cute joke. And don't just choke us on the main leader of each faction. Classics over did it on Hordak variants, for example. Catra, in the meantime, has different versions from the past that were never realized in plastic form in the modern line. I don't think we necessarily need 8 more He-Man or Skeletor variants either.

What I do want: Basically a continuation of the Masters of the Universe classics line -- same scale, same level of articulation (don't care about the ab crunch so if you must cut corners somewhere...), same great realistic 4 Horsemen sculpting. Packaging is not a big deal to me because I display my figs loose.

The characters I really want made are listed in my sig below.

I'd love to be able to order the figs through BBTS or even a Kickstarter like the Horsemen did for their Mythic Legions would work.

What I don't want: Cartoony super-deformed/bigheads/retro Mego-style/sofubi/mini-figs/ultra-limited paint variants only available for 5 minutes to scalpers who put them on ebay the next day at 10 times the price.

My MOTU most wanted: Slime Pit Bone Warriors, Major Header, Catra Cat Form, Lady Slither, Hunga the Harpy, Satma, Great Black Wizard, King Miro, Sha'gora, Mask of Power Demons, Red Knight, Beast Lord, Illumina, Lady Valtira, armored Crita, Old Man Marzo 200X, Teela 200X, Skeletor52, Teela52, Hans Hammer Holder, Robowoman, Bubblor, Movie Troopers, Movie Beastman, Goddess52, Red Beast

There is a lot of great characters left in the line. I think the fan polls are a great place to start, but if they want to add in some characters I'm fine with that also. I would like to see new packaging. The old packaging is great, but it would be great to see something new. Also it would be great to have some character info/bios on the back of the packaging again. Hopefully they will keep with the subscriptions. It is nice to not have to worry about missing figures. I wouldn't mind seeing a best of sub with some of the top characters like He-Man and Skeletor re-released as well as some of the hard to get figures like Whiplash, Teela and Fisto. Hopefully they will continue with more vehicles. And of course I hope we can get Snake Mountain. I'm in even if they need to do something along the lines of a Kickstarter campaign where you have to pay up front.

Some of the characters I most want to see are Stridor, Lady Slither, Granita, Dylamug, Hawke, Sagitar, Goddess Teela, Lodar and so many more. Hopefully if the Filmation line is continued it will be more Hero heavy since the first one was so villain heavy.

Another design a character contest would be cool.

Most of all hopefully they will listen to and get feedback from the fans.

    I'm cautiously optimistic...

Without going into a ton of detail on character selection, I'll echo what others have said and say to follow the polls and the requests of the fan base.

What I DON'T want to see in Classics (or the Filmation line, which for all intents and purposes I am lumping in as a part of Classics) is what I would call "weird, random" variants. Things like the 12" vintage style "test shot" figures.... or random, limited, exclusive colored convention variants, etc. like they've done with MOTUSCLE. I mean no disrespect in regards to the other MOTU offerings that Super7 has done. They are fine for what they are, but that's not what MOTUC has ever been up to this point. PLEASE keep it that way.

My next concern is about the quality of the end product. We've had some issues with Mattel, as is well documented elsewhere. Please do everything possible to at minimum not make the quality any less than what it is now, and if anything improve upon it.

My other concern is HOW the items will be sold:

    - As many problems as Matty/Digital River had, one of the things that I did like was having the option of a subscription to "lock in" the figures without having to manually order each of them separately. I know it was frustrating for many when the sub model went from being a simple option to being "sub or die," but I would like something akin to the sub to be an option.

    - In regards to the sub model or something akin to it, it would be nice if ALL items were included in it, and if some item comes along later on that wasn't "lumped" in with the sub to begin with, give us some kind of option to "lump it in" with our sub before it's actually released.

    - In regards to manual "day of release" sales or however that will work, when fans go to the website to manually order individual items, it would be nice to still be told ahead of time exactly when items will go up for sale as has been the case with Matty up to this point. If items just go up at random times and sell out, that will be frustrating.

In other words, take the things that actually DID work about the Matty/DR buying experience and improve on them. But please don't reinvent the wheel in terms of the good things that many fans are used to. After 8 years of collecting this line, and having signed up for every MOTUC sub offered, I really don't want to go back to having to order each and every item when they go up for sale like in the early days of this line.

PLEASE make the overall buying experience as easy as possible for all involved. If you do that, I think you will have many, many happy customers.

And lastly, I know right now it looks like it won't happen, and Super7's ability to do much about it may be minimal, but if there's even a sliver of a chance of it happening.... for the love of God and all that is holy.... PLEASE do whatever you can to continue the Thundercats line!!!!!!!!!!
