Sure Mattel doesn't allows any He-Man thing in the She-Ra show because they have great plans for him haha ....Mattel is the worst enemy of He-Man.

How can you make a She-Ra show without any conection with He-Man/Eternia/Grayskull , it's like to make a Supergirl show without any Superman relation.

Yeah, I remember Toyguru talking about this. Basically, MOTU and POP are treated as two separate brands and thus, creators and companies and so forth have to be careful with what they can and can't do/use. Pretty ridiculous.

If they really wanted to use an MOTU character couldn't they just make up a thinly veiled stand in for said character. That's the way quite a few characters get around characters being off limits.

This is what Tim Seeley said back in March. (RE-POST)

    • After writing "The Art of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" book Tim Seeley and his brother Steve were contacted by DreamWorks to write a Property Bible for the Netflix She-Ra series.
    • A Property Bible is not the same thing as a Series Bible. (Noelle Stevenson wrote the Series Bible) This is basically background research about the property (character motivations, origins etc.) to be used by the new/incoming team as a jumping off point for the new series. Tim and his brother watched all of the FILMation episodes, read the mini-comics, read the storybooks and then distilled what the property was about for the new team. Tim pulled a lot from the mini-comics, but mostly from the FILMation series.
    • When they were contacted, DreamWorks said the new series couldn't be tied to He-Man specifically; They could use He-Man, Hordak and some other stuff for the new series but not much more. (as far as they knew) Later it was discovered they could use all of The Horde members.
    • Netflix She-Ra toys speculation: The hosts and guests are in agreement that there will probably be toys and they will be done in various formats that many of the old fans may not be used to.
    • Tim says that Noelle Stevenson is a great choice for showrunner, as he thinks that she has what it takes to make She-Ra into something that it never was before, something that will appeal to a new generation of kids. He would have gone in another direction, but believes that the series has to be something different than what it was before.

We know we probably won't see He-Man from Power-Con. I would guess we see Hordak early on, but might not see the other male Horde until later seasons. No one was listed as voice actors for them in the early press release.

Actually. DC proved with Jason Momoa that you can change a characters ethnicity for movies if you find the right actor.

I don´t get why people think Aqua-Man is a stupid character but many people seem to think so OR thought so. That´s why they chose Mr Momoa and he is the perfect combo of sexiness and a mans man. A guy everyone wants to be friends with since he is simply cool(for this part we don´t talk Conan here )

Someone else could be that guy for He-Man but i say for a life action movie not for a cartoon.

I knew that He-Man would not show up but that the Fright Zone itself is of limits, that was news to me.

Again thank you Tallstar you are really the master of this thread

This is where weak writing comes in and has me concerned for this new version of She-Ra.
    Okay, this is just nonsense.
Firs of all, nobody is sexualized or debased in this scene. They don't talk about sex, they don't show much skin, they don't even really kiss, all they do is mention "smooching", trying CPR and blushing. It is played for drama and humor and not presented erotically at all.
The age of the characters is also pretty irrelevant here - I have seen clearly younger characters kissing. Again, it isn't like they actually have sex or sex is even mentioned or hinted at or as if anything was presented in a sexual light. Not one bit.
And finally, I have seen similar scenes written by men. And they were printed. Or filmed.

well said JakeofEternia, I feel like you articulated a lot a old school fans' fears. This new She-Ra is going to be a new thing, I think it's best to take it as it comes - heck I'm just excited to see what Noelle and her crew do with it. Only time will tell I guess.

lol I bet this means dolls, basically. And of course Brandon already confirmed that there will be toys, not just probably.

Frankly I'm sick of all the debate regarding the show, the art and animation and such. Seeing some actual retail product revealed (which I'm assuming we'll get at NYCC?) that we can discuss will be such a relief--even if that discussion also becomes fraught and contentious (which I fully expect it will!). Anyway, October 4 can't come soon enough. Quite excited!

EDIT: Actually, with no mention of Mattel or any toy presence, maybe reveals is just wishful thinking on my part. Hmm, well here's hoping. You can see what I'm most curious about, in any case.

Perhaps they might license it out and get some Figuarts made (which would be outside of whatever the main line ends up being). It might even be pretty cool if the classic versions of He-Man and She-Ra got some as well (it would be nice for the old school fans at least).

How well do Mattel get along with Bandai?

My guess is that we will get a look at the toys from Mattel at New York Toy Fair in February of 2019, with some possible licensed merchandise coming at the tail end of this year. (i.e. books, lunch boxes etc.) DreamWorks get to decide how they want to roll this property out, so perhaps that's why we haven't seen any retail product yet. Of course, there's always a chance something toy-related will be teased at NYCC.

I'm not sure if this has been bought before, but I think the Horde Troops will probably still be robots this time. Mainly because, there is no way she's ever going to cut on any of the main Horde or other living beings (for obvious reasons), so the robots can be their to ensure that she isn't missing everytime she swings her sword.

I'm unsure about that. One of the big things I want out of this series is a legitimately more competent Horde, and one of the biggest problems they had in the old series was how dumb the ridiculously human robots were. More competent robots would help with that, but then you wind up with the possibility of the robots only act a drones and lack personality. Done too much and you wind up with something like the vehicons from Beast Machines which were essentially just fodder.

Maybe have more than one type, of Horde trooper, with more advanced models being more dangerous than the standard one. And have more specialised variants to.

A big hope of mine is that this show does so well that Mattel and Netflix work out a way to get a new MotU series going as an off-shoot of She-Ra.

That would mean positive reactions to the show, great toy/merchandise sales, and really good critic reviews...

I think they'll be robots too - for the sake of exciting, sword-swinging and slashing action scenes. But, I'm hopeful that they'll be more threatening and that the various individual Horde members (e.g. Catra, Mantenna, Grizzlor, Leech, Octavia, Scorpia, General Sunder, etc) will be shown to mostly be competent leaders in charge of directing the actions of the robotic Horde Troopers and engaging in battle when necessary.

    I second this!

Anyway, hopefully there will be some positive responses to the screening of She-Ra when it gets its first screen time on the 10th of April, but I am anticipating that it will probably not go down as well as the series repurposers would like!

So for me - when I heard SHE-RA was coming to Netflix - I was excited.

Then I saw the artistic style - and for me, it's not an art style of cartoons, I personally enjoy. (Very "Teen Titans Go!" and what not - which I understand - is very popular). And made me realize, as an adult male past my 40's - I am not the intended target audience. This is targeted to a younger audience to capture potential sales (of new action figures and the like, I assume, if it does well). I'll still check it out, but despite my love of comics (and Teen Titans), I've never made it through an entire episode of Teen Titans Go - so I am not hopeful I will enjoy it.

But I am hoping it is a massive success - so that the next generation has a strong female role model to look forward to!

So with a name like Princesses of Power, what are the odds some part of this series will be taken up by a maiden hunt as the Rebels try to find where different princesses are hiding/being hidden?

Paige Osburn, a producer at 1A, says that Noelle Stevenson will be appearing on the show this Monday at 11am Eastern Time. Another producer from 1A says that she will be talking about She-Ra!

I have to wonder if whenever the trailer drops, it might end up doing more harm than good. I mean given Netflix's track record even if the show is good, the trailer will likely fail show that off.

The Voltron Legendary Defender trailer, never rely got across any of the story telling strengths or charm of the series. While there are the signs of a good show, if you pay close enough attention to the Dragon Prince trailer, it's not really there at face value).

Just saying with how controversial this show is at the moment, the king of generic, sloppily edited trailers that Netflix usually fart out, won't do it any favours.

When it comes to trailers, i just want them to look good.

I don´t want to see the whole story and in this particular case i know the secret of the sword

I know but a trailer is meant to make what it's advertising look good and Netflix trailers tend to makes shows look worse than they actualy.

Case in point from 0:17 to 0:31 in this trailer.

While the scene will almost certainly be more drawn out and sensicle in the show propper. The way the trailer makes that characters change of heart is super rushed. While there is nothing else especially bad in the trailer, it manages to make what is clearly the pivotal scene, that kicks off the main characters journey look bad.
