She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on the cover of the December 2019 issue of Animation Magazine
Some tidbits of information:
- They were immediately boarding, designing and writing once the first season was greenlit.
"When I first pitched the show, I approached it as if it had one season, but we now have four arcs of 13 episodes done." - Noelle Stevenson
- About 45 DreamWorks employees work on the show. Animation is done by NE4U. The series is hand-drawn 2D animation, but some CG is used on "complicated machinery."
- Noelle first learned about He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and She-Ra from several team members while working on Disney XD "Wander Over Yonder." They did homages to MOTU.
- There is an interesting relationship between Glimmer and her mother.

Head over to Adam Ray's Instagram page. Adam just posted an Instagram story of himself leaving DreamWorks after recording for the She-Ra and the Princesses of Power series. (It's the 6th Instagram story) He mentions August as the premiere month (which matches what is shown on IMDb), but doesn't seem sure about it.
"Just finished recording some She-Ra. That's right She-Ra. Coming to Netflix in August, I think. Either way, I'm voicing a horse. She-Ra for Netflix-DreamWorks-August."

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS WITH CAST AND CREW
@mic2002uk2000: Hi Noelle. I am Michael Bell. I run a Facebook group called Descendants of Grayskull. Many of us are very excited about the news of She-Ra being released later this year. Are their any more details regarding images and style of animation that can be revealed yet?
@Gingerhazing: Can’t reveal anything else just yet. It’s going to be different from the original in many ways, but my crew and I love the original She-Ra and take inspiration from it whenever we can.
@Gingerhazing: That said, nostalgia is not our only selling point. We want to keep the spirit of the original intact and give kids of today their own She-Ra experience.
@mic2002uk2000: I have seen the series bible and can see a lot of the characters are being brought into the show from the Filmation series. I am impressed with the tougher tone to it which was restricted back in the day. I hope the kids of today can take to her as we did in 1984.
@KTonarella: I hope this doesn't count as a spoiler type question, but when designing the characters for the new She-Ra cartoon did you look to the old Filmation series or the toyline or both when coming up for the looks of the new show ?
@gullshriek: I tended to lean towards inspiration from the filmation series but I've also taken inspiration from toys and other media ie he-man 2002! Its really been dependent on the individual character and what fits their personality the most.
@TheRealZentron: What did you try to avoid when designing?
@gullshriek: with regard to inspiration or in general?
@TheRealZentron: Hmm, in general!
@gullshriek: I'd say samey-looking characters. I didn't want them to blend into each other and have just their outfit colors and hairstyles be the biggest differences. Distinct characters are way more fun and interesting
@JoshuaChayne: Some fans may ot like the style, but if this is a success there may be many more iterations of Shera and HeMan in the future. Consider all the different Batman or scooby doo cartoons. Different styles, different levels of seriousness. It's all good.
@mickequ: I agree! I would love for this to open the doors to more versions of She-Ra and He-Man down the road. I love to see how different creators interpret classic characters in their own unique way.
@unknown Will Catra be there? [DELETED]
@mickequ You Know it [DELETED]
Albert Ching (Facebook): will Snout Spout be involved
Josie Campbell (Facebook): Haha, I'm not allowed to say anything other than what's in the announcement, but i CAN say it'll be awesome, there's a lot of great old and new stuff to love.
Anon (from curiouscat.me): Besides the Filmation shows have you seen or read other She-Ra or He-Man stuff? Like the 2002 He-Man cartoon, MOTU comics, toy bios, etc... Anyway I'm super excited for the new She-Ra show.
@gullshriek: I'm not really into the he-man side of things outside of skeletor and some scattered villains/minor characters, and as much as I'm interested in Despera the comics don't really look like something I'd enjoy. The colorful and kindhearted (and yes, campy) vibe of the filmation show is what appeals to me. I do like the toys though! I've only just started collecting but I feel like I'm probably on a downward spiral about it. I was born too late to be there for the initial MOTU/POP excitement, so I'm fresh to the franchise; aside from vague cultural background radiation it's been working on the reboot that's really gotten me excited about the other content.
@He_Man_movie: Interesting answer, so we should not wait for Despara in the new show
gullshriek: didn't say that!
@NirvanaMonk116: I don't want to be one of those people who is annoying and harasses you about She-Ra but I have a question. How much longer before we get a teaser poster?
@gullshriek: I don't even know!
@gullshriek: also to be clear this isnt annoying. it's only when people are rude or demanding about things. simple questions are totally fine. I just cant answer much right now!

COMMENTS FROM CAST AND CREW
@Dihun: so i'm not supposed to say a lot about she-ra but I hope it's okay to say that the voice acting on this show is just, so damn good, it's been such a pleasure and inspiration to board it
@Dihuh: I also hope you guys like She-Ra!! So much love and sweat and tears were poured into the show. The episodes I'm proudest to have boarded on won't be ready for awhile, but keep your eyes peeeeeledddddd
@mickequ: so far i’ve been impressed with the MOTU fan community, and their response to the idea of the new she-ra. a lot of you really seem to understand that we’re making this for a new generation and that doesn’t mean hate or disrespect for the old show (i personally love old she-ra)
@mickequ: i’m making what i personally want to see from She-Ra. that can’t possibly line up with what every other fan wants and I appreciate that y’all seem chill with that so far
@Gingerhazing: grr I'm so excited for people to see our SHOW
@Gingerhazing: no offense but it's gonna be good
@mickequ: example of why you can't use the # of script pages to determine the length of a storyboard: i just thumbnailed two sequences and - one, a fight scene, is about 4 pages of script, and will be about 120 shots. - the other, 3 pages, a conversation, will be ............ 30
@Alliandoalice: Totally psyched to see the storyboards! (Btw I’m the one who tweeted the she-ra fanart to you, and that same day during my job interview I mentioned I really wanted to work on the show so they hired me as storyboard revisionist on she-ra )
@Gingerhazing: I put my favorite She-Ra writing music on a Spotify playlist if you're interested:

1. Holding Out for a Hero - Bonnie Tyler
2. Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) - Journey
3. I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) - Meat Loaf
4. Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
5. The Show Must Go On - Queen
6. It's All Coming Back to Me Now - Celine Dion
7. We Sink - CHVRCHES
8. What's Up? - 4 Non Blondes
9. I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) - Whitney Houston
10. This Woman's Work - Kate Bush
11. Everybody Wants To Rule The World - Tears For Fears
12. What's It Gonna Be? -Shura
13. The Greatest - Sia, Kendrick Lamar
@gullshriek: she-ra fans saying stuff like they hope we listen to them and change stuff if they dont like it: we've been in production forr I think nearly 2 years? so much stuff is already WELL past decided. we hope you like it, obviously! but it cant turn around if you dont
@gullshriek: there's some special poses, singular drawings, I personally did in early episodes that I wish I could change and I cant cuz its already out the door, no WAY would we be able to, like, rewrite the plot, or change the art style
@gullshriek: cartoons take a huge amount of time to make, and the stuff we're doing right now you probably wont see for years (unfortunately for me because its all great and I want to yell about it)
@gullshriek: anyway I'm sure people will not like it and complain no matter what because its the internet and also a reboot of a beloved franchise. I just hope MOST of you fall in love with it, and nobody throws a tantrum to me in my mentions about stuff I have zero control over
@chezlajo: Secret is finally out! So excited to spread the news of this amazing new She-Ra reboot of female empowerment that I've been working on for over a year. Details to come!
@ande.v2 Omg @betweenvelvetsheets and I were literally just watching this
@chezlajo: haha that's awesome!!! The reboot is super different from the original haha so i hope people still like it :P
@Dihuh: my proudest boarding moment on the show is probably the fact that I inserted a bean bag chair as an integral set piece. I have no regrets
@Dihuh: i have a favorite character on the show and the moment she-ra launches i'm gonna show off all the dumb drawings i have of them
@Gingerhazing: My favorite Masters of the Universe facts:
-Skeletor is He-Man's uncle
-He-Man and She-Ra's mother is an earth astronaut who fell through a wormhole and ended up on Eternia, making them both half earthling
@fencingmonkey:
*Orko was originally Gorko but they changed it so they could reverse the animation without the "O" on his shirt looking backwards
*Prince Adam was going to be a scrawny kid but again, resuing animation cels
@Gingerhazing He was going to be scrawny with a BIG FLOPPY HAT a detail of his early design I will always mourn (Note: Showrunner Noelle Stevenson was looking at an early version of Prince Adam from "The Power and The Honor Foundation Catalog.")
Listed on David Woo's resume:
Director, "She-Ra"
Season 1, 2017-Present
Accomplishments
- Directed a team of three storyboard artists and trained them.
- Managed the visual and emotional themes of multiple episodes to build on the overall story arc.
- Provided design advice and did draw-overs to help improve the design department and overseas animation team.
@Dihuh: i have two really problematic ships on she-ra and the internet will destroy me for it *readies internet shotgun*
@gullshriek: i don't have any control on story or anything i just get to make sure everybodys lookin cute and that theres at least one extremely jacked hot woman somewhere in any given crowd of people and then i get to eat all the good writing
@gullshriek: so it's extremely easy to like, hear something they're planning for an upcoming episode and just YELL about it
@gullshriek: its uniquely frustrating to be like, maximum levels of sweaty nerd abt the thing you work on, and not being able to just like go look at AMVs or shitpost or whatever about it.
@gullshriek: I'm so used to producing some garbage content and immediately tweeting it without even looking at it, or just getting on tumblr and typing "jasper" or etc and getting 90000 memes and conspiracy theories
@gullshriek: I've had to make all my own memes and print them out and put them up on a corkboard at the office. set me free
@adamraycomedy: For the honor of Grayskull! @dreamworksshera & the PRINCESSES OF POWER is coming soon to @Netflix! Couldn't be more pumped for this. I'm voicing the character SWIFT WIND. That's all I can say. But the show is incredible, animation is next level, and the stories & humor is for kids and adults. Get ready. #shera #dreamworksanimation #netflix

INSIDER INFORMATION / COMMENTS
James Eatock: I've posted this elsewhere, I'll post it here, too...
Here's what I will say from everything I've read...
1) The writer(s) of the series bible clearly have a LOVE/appreciation of the original Filmation show...or at least have done a LOT of wonderful research and taken some of the best aspects of the original series
2) The story arc is truly EPIC
3) This show thankfully does NOT feature awful smart-ass snarky dialogue
4) The characters are VERY well defined; some FAR stronger than their original Filmation counterparts
As someone that LOVES the Filmation show, I am VERY much looking forward to this new series - I honestly believe they're onto a winner!
@rudolf_nine: I've seen some model sheets of the new She-ra animation. The designs looked reeaally cool. (I have no knowledge of the He-man series)

KNOWN ACTORS WHO HAVE TESTED / AUDITIONED FOR SHE-RA OR SHOWN INTEREST (Note: Does not mean they landed a role!)
Merit Leighton (Sofia the First, Alexa & Katie)
Commercial Talent Agency posted on Facebook "Congratulations to Merit Leighton for her testing for DreamWorks Animated Series She-Ra!"

RUMORS (WHAT WE MIGHT SEE)
From Pride.com: "...Stevenson’s attachment to this project gives some keys to the tone. Her work, both radical and easy to digest, focuses most often on bonds, sexuality, and above all, strong female characters. The work doesn’t get too heavy-handed, existing in that magical spot where adorable characters sneak deep themes right under your nose. She is a perfect match, and promises this adaption will be going some interesting places."
From He-Man.org member MarvelousOne: "I was told you will see Hordak, Shadow Weaver, Scorpia, Catra and Grizzlor. Sure we will see others too!"
Pure Speculation: Chris Mann from NBC The Voice (Season 2) may or may not be involved in the new She-Ra series.
- Back in December I saw that Chris made this post:

Kari Kimmel will be doing a new theme song for DreamWorks' remake of She-Ra.
https://www.ascap.com/news-and-event...C-7D7FBBBD375EHi, I’m Kari Kimmel and I’ll be leading an intensive writers retreat this fall. A little bit about me… I love music. I love writing, recording, singing, and producing. I’ve been able take my passion for music, and find an outlet for it through sync placements in film and TV. To date, my songs have been featured in over 650 films, TV shows, video games, trailers and commercials. Films such as World War Z, Southpaw and The Duff. TV shows such as The Office, New Girl, Pretty Little Liars, America’s Funniest Home Videos, and Grimm. Promos and trailers for The Walking Dead, Grey’s Anatomy, and Fortitude. Commercials for Google and Nissan, and video games like The Sims. I’ve also just landed my 15th theme song, for the upcoming Dreamworks remake of She-Ra. The theme I’m most known for is probably The Fosters which I wrote, sang and co-produced.
