I love the 200X line! (Looks like I might be the only one who does!)

    Hello all!
I'm new to this site, and to the "Masters of the Universe" collecting community, but I am a lifelong fan of the toys!
Even as a kid in the 1980s, I was drawn to the dark fantasy/sci-fi world hinted at in the mini-comics and story books. I watched the Filmation series back then but my figures always inhabited that "not quite canonical" world of barbarians, wizards, and ancient forgotten technologies. As other, newer toylines appeared, I grew out of my fascination with "Masters of the Universe."
Then, in 2001 I picked up a Toyfare magazine that had the Horsemens' He-Man Prototype on the cover and I fell in love with the concept all over again! Inside that issue, they interviewed one of the sculptors (forgive me, I can't remember which one) and he mentioned, offhandedly, that one of their unused concepts related to the power sword had to do with the idea that Man-at-Arms and the Sorceress used technology infused with magic to build He-Man's 200X "Techno-Sword." As we know, the Mike Young Series and Mattel ignored this concept in favor of the "Sword of Grayskull" backstory... But the suggestion that someone involved so intimately with the design of those figures thought long enough about the characters and the milieu around them to include those ideas in their scuptures was enough to pull me back in immediately!
To me, the 200X designs seemed like tangible versions of what my original Masters looked like in my 6 year old imagination in 1984.
I sought the figures, vehicles, and few playsets out as they were released in my area... I purchased one of each, opened and displayed them all in elaborate battle scenes.
Back then, I was in my early/mid twenties and not terribly interested in what the internet thought about anything so I missed any of the reactions the fan community was having to these figures. But, when Snake-Men began appearing online but not on store shelves in my area, I knew the resurgence had come to an end. I was sad I wouldn't get 200X versions of some figures I had as a kid but glad I'd been able to support the reboot with all my heart while it lasted.
From 2004 until just a month or 2 ago, my 200X collection sat boxed in a garage and rarely thought about. Then, on a whim, I decided to set up the castle and new battle scenes... Just to change up my living room décor.
Seeing these figures again reinvigorated my love for toy collecting and I realized that I'd been isolated in my reaction to these figures for 14 years, so I came to the internet to see how the world regarded these figures, and the "Masters of the Universe" as a whole.
At first glance, though, I'm finding that the world seems mostly divided into 3 camps: 1) Don't know, don't care, 2) People familiar with the "What's Going On" parody video, and 3) We love He-Man, we love Masters and we agree that the MYP show was cool but the Stactions are the only good thing from 200X.
Let me know if I'm alone here. I loved the 200X line because the figures were just as poseable as the originals but so much more interesting and detailed! I think the classics are fine and feature an amazing amount of articulation, but the 200X line was actually affordable and durable enough to introduce young people to. I think the Classics line is cool, but I wasn't in on the ground floor, so the cost is prohibitive. It's nice that Super7 now makes vehicles in scale with 200X like Wind Raider and Stridor available at a decent price without the insulting caveat of subscribing to a club in addition to paying for the toy... But I doubt I'll ever be fiscally adventurous enough to start a Classics collection.
My thoughts have rambled, so I'll stop here. But let me know what you think: is 200X unloved, or am I just not looking searching diligently enough for "Masters of the Universe" who share an opinion close to mine?

I also love the 200x line. There are some details, I didn't like, but as a whole they were/are really cool.

    Welcome to the group!!!!!

I like to make many of my classics to look like the 200X versions.

It's funny I've heard it said about 2ooX figures, "It's the figures you remember, until you see the figures from your childhood."

200x was great. Really loved the cartoons. The Four Horsemen's sculpts were awesome. Only toy I really wasn't fond of was He-Man. Didn't like how they tried to put a anime style to him. I need to switch out my display. Been planning on taking down the classics and putting up the 200x and vintage but I just haven't gotten around to it. Maybe this weekend. Cheers and welcome!

I liked the 200X series in many ways, but in others I felt it failed. I think they had too much of a focus on science and it had something of a washed out look. So, even though the figures were superior quality in virtually always that lacked the "superheroic" qualities that drew me to the franchise as a child. He-Man was ropier, oranges, yellows, greys and dusty washes were more common. And it failed to capture the heart and imagination of children.

Like yourself, most of my fandom was born of the minicomics. The vibrant fantasy world filled with lost or ancient technologies spoke to me as a child.

    Welcome.

I actually considered selling off my 200x collection several years ago. But looking back, I'm glad I didn't.

While I definitely prefer Classics, I really like several different things about the 200x line:

-I liked that the figures were different sizes. For example, Beast Man and Whiplash were huge!! I liked Buzz Off being much more lean.

-The detail was amazing on pretty much every single figure.

-The weapons seemed more like actual weapons than rounded, dull edged toys.

-Prince Adam being 'younger' and smaller than He-Man.

Welcome to the forums! 200x was a magical time. Most of us were in our 20s and in full-collecting mode, and energy was high. And a lot of those 200x figures are going up,up,up in value! And I suspect it's going to continue.
I also miss ToyFare. I loved that magazine.
Hope to see you at Power-Con, America's Mightiest Toy Convention!

Long time lurker here. Gosh I love the 200x Series, seeing He Man the first time in the 200x packaging brought me back to toy collecting, and still doing it 15 years later.

Everything about it was amazing - the incredibly heroic / villainous sculpts, stylistic east-meets-west approach, the MVP cartoon and the comics series.

The Four Horsemen really did an incredible job to revive them, and I m just grateful to have experienced the various eras of He Man. Every generation deserves their own He Man, and the magic continues to live on!
