Season 1 talkback and discussion - *CONTAINS SPOILERS*

    Its on Netflix now!

    ***MOD NOTICE***
You all are more than welcome to create episode-specific threads! This is what we did back with the 2002 cartoon.
But since Netflix delivers the entire season at once, and since many of you binge watch, we also offer this general talkback for the entire season.

So I'm watching the first episode. Not The Secret of the Sword by a longshot.

Oh my stars and planets! New She-Ra is here and I can't wait to watch all the episodes! Of course, I have my writing and editing work to do and lots of fantasy/science fiction TV and movies to watch, books to read, and music to listen to, so it will take me a fair while to get through all 13 episodes, and I'm bound to love it, and I will let you guys know what I feel about each episode, or at least the first few at a time. Don't worry, it will be positive.

In the photo clip for Episode 7, In The Shadows Of Mystacor, I'm wondering if the lady in blue with the ring around her head is Castaspella. I hope so.

I just watched the first 2 episodes and they were ok. Totally different from the original Filmation She-Ra story tho.
I still wish we got something more like 200X He-Man series or similar.
I'll keep watching coz there are some tiny stuff I like.

    Spoiler Ahead...

What I really don't like is that everyone just keeps finding out Adora is She-Ra including Catra.
    Even Catra knows?
The Evil Horde can't know her secret that's just crazy.

It's up on Netflix here in the UK, but I'll have to wait until after work to watch it.

So does it have an opening theme or do they just dive into the show with credits over the opening scenes?

I've only watched 1 episode so far. I have to confess that I cried several times, had goosebumps and smiled watching first episode. The backgrounds are gorgeous, the animation is very smooth, the music is very good. I still think that the art style is too simplified, not beautiful and always reminds me I'm watching a kid's cartoon and some character designs are very questionable to say the least (looking at you, Shadow Weaver), but somehow it all works in motion and is indeed watchable. I'm kinda afraid to continue watching, because it's been good so far and I don't want to be disappointed.
P.S. I was surprised that Queen Angella did have a chest, because I was convinced no one was allowed to on this show.

I watched the first episode this morning and I liked it! A little silly, but I already expected that. I got a little emotional at certain points (the Light Hope stuff). Side note, Light Hope reminds me of Grace Jones, lol.

The music is pretty cool, and the show is so colorful (like a rainbow exploded). The voices were probably the weakest part. Lorraine Toussaint, sorry honey, but you need to stick to on screen acting! Her Shadow Weaver voice is pretty awful. Every other voice was cool.

Surprisingly, Glimmer is probably my favorite character thus far. Looking forward to watching the second episode tonight.

My girls were up at 5 this morning so they could be dressed and ready for school in time to watch the first episode. They REALLY liked it. I am optimistic that there will be repeat viewing in the guy-dude household.

Okay so the theme song is atrocious. I mean ear-bleeding bad. I'd rather they just had a title card.

I'd say Entrapta's introduction was easily the worst of episode of what I've seen so far, while I get what they were going for with it being a lighthearted episode before a few much darker ones, I think it's the only episode were the humour felt obnoxious and took away from the story rather than added to it.

    Otherwise decent stuff so far.

    Wow, I hadn't seen

Razz yet! People said she looked awful, but I think she looks great! I always envisioned her becoming more like a crazy cat lady, or like that witch from the bugs bunny cartoon (that runs and the hairpins fly off her head).
Looking forward to seeing her in action!

These redesigns are a bit too much.

Both Glimmer and Bow are essentially Trans.

Is there a reason they can't be gay in this new take on POP?

There's obviously changes to some of the characters, in terms of Etherian race, gender, sexuality, relationships, etc. And some of that will be a welcome change to some fans, and disliked by fans who prefer the original 80s canon.

So, I think one of the only answers to your question is to say this is a new take, for a new generation of fans. And whatever changes you see are the direction the creators took with it. Maybe they'll discuss it in online interviews, maybe at Power-Con panels (if we're lucky), or maybe we'll never know. Time will tell.
Hope to see you at Power-Con 2020!

Quite interesting that the previous She-Ra was driven insane by the power and responsibility that came with the role. While I expected this show to be a tad darker than the original, I also expected them to ease the audience into it a little bit more.
