What would you want from Super7's vintage line?

In the wake of the adult toy market's new focus on the the vintage scale what would you want to see Super 7 focus their resources towards?
    • Just Filmation variants
    • a focused Powers of Grayskull line
    • a continuation of the vintage line
    • POP in vintage style
    • NA in the vintage style
    • 200x in the vintage style
    • a mixture of ideas

Not to be a pest lol but...

What specifically does “a continuation of the vintage line” include or not include? Technically, every category on the poll is a continuation of the vintage line.

Two possible options that i don’t see listed are unproduced Mini-comic characters and unproduced characters from the Dolph Lundgren MOTU movie. Is that what one or both of these are considered?

...and how about an option for solely first time never before produced characters in general? Or “none of the above”

The only thing on the poll I’m completely committed to is POP done in the vintage MOTU style.

My thinking was new characters that weren't produced during the vintage line's run, like the planned 88 figures. I would definitely put unproduced mini comic characters in there. The movie characters would also fall under that umbrella since we got Saurod, Blade, and Gwildor in the original line.

Oh ok thanks. I guess that’s pretty much what I figured then. I’ve just noticed different perceptions of some of these things among some of the posters here and on other forms. What is considered what, I guess you could say. Like IMO, everything from the original POP line would be new (or a continuation) if produced in the vintage MOTU style. I know at least one person personally that considers the vintage POP and vintage MOTU to essentially be one line, mostly due to scale and the fact that they were both once available at the same time, I believe. Which I understand. She has no interest in seeing POP done in MOTU style. Except for Shadow Weaver lol.

Oh and I didn’t realize we could vote more than once lol.

I’d like a mix but the existing releases are hollow, lightweight, fragile, overpriced, and skew toy over animation model in the first wave especially. So I think I’m out unless they go back to the drawing board. I like wave 1 Skeletor’s head sculpt and the general evolution of the line’s designs (minus Adam).

I like the IDEA of the line but this isn’t the re-entry into MOTU collecting I’d hoped for. I think these try too hard to balance Filmation and classic toys while doing new things with the legs that serve neither.

I’d be more into Filmation toys that capture the Filmation look as well as Funko’s Zorn or DC Primal Age. I’d be more into He-Ro or new figures if they captured or surpassed classic durability. Funko had some durability missteps with Savage World and Primal Age but fixed those with the Target PA release, making something more durable than vintage. Mattel addressed vintage durability issues with Giants by using leg clips and nylon instead of rubber in the legs.

I think figures that exceed vintage durability are possible at a fraction of the $20 price and at the $20 price in a limited scale run like S7 does. Until the engineering is revisited, more figures mean more disappointment.

Assuming we could get an engineering reboot of the line, I’d want the core Filmation figures redone alongside unique 200x designs (think Snake Armor, Samurai, King Hiss, etc), unreleased classic MOTU, New Adventures, and new Filmation characters.

Frankly, I’d like to see stuff like Orko’s wheels and power punch abandoned. They reduce articulation/display options, increase price, create damage potential, and never added that much for me, even when I was a kid. Vehicles mattered more to me than action features on figures.

    My biggest wants:

Unreleased concepts (like He-Ro) and early concept designs (like the various He-Man prototypes) for existing figures
Minicomic toy variants (ie Alcala Mer-Man) and unique minicomic characters (ie masks of power demons)
Newly designed figures created by Four Horsemen in the style of the vintage line
Unique MOTU Classics figures in 5.5" scale (Grayskullman, Draego Man, etc)

I’ve been pretty ‘meh’ on the Filmation variants. I think all of them are decent looking figures in general as action figures go. Quality control is another issue itself. And while I think they are good looking figures just like many of the original vintage figures many still fall short of properly representing the Filmation designs. As did the originals but with a major difference being that in most cases the Mattel figures came first with Filmation adapting the toy designs to their cartoon. From top to bottom IMO: Merman, Man-At-Arms, Shadow Weaver and Orko best achieve the Filmation look. Skeletor, Robot He-Man, Stratos and Evilseed look pretty good but not quite perfect. Trap Jaw is good but needs tweaking to that mech arm. Beastman, Teela, He-Man and She-Ra are all off in a few ways. Evil-Lyn is too yellow and needs a cape. Hordak needed a different style of head altogether. Prince Adam just seems cheap and lazy. The figure still appears with the arm bracers just painted for some odd reason and he could have really benefited from a revised facial sculpt/facial expression. Hopefully some of these issues can be resolved before the yet to be released figures come out.

Honestly, I want anything... except the Filmation variants! haha I honestly find a lot of the original toy designs to be superior than how they were depicted in the cartoon.

I’m fine with them doing She-Ra Filmation variants in the vintage MOTU style but really other than that it would not hurt my feelings if they didn’t make any more Filmation variants of existing characters from the original line.

Yes, I typed without thinking. I wouldn't mind those either. Though I do hope we get a better Sorceress.

Agreed here. Honestly going back to the original line would be goal. It's been 20 years now since the Commmerative series rereleases and I would LOVE to see them come back. Original figures haven't held up well and the commerative are VERY expensive.. But I really have zero interest in collecting 'new' figures in the old style without the core figures to go with them.
