New She-Ra line coming to Target!

    UPDATE: July 19th, 2019:

    ---------------------
    UPDATED: July 18th, 2019

    • She-Ra and the Princesses of Power dolls, She-Ra "Dress Up Set" and She-Ra "Sword and Shield Set" are coming to US Target stores.

    • Adora, She-Ra, Catra, Bow and Glimmer dolls are priced at $14.99.

    • Battle Armor She-Ra & Swift Wind set is priced at $29.99.

    • Price on the She-Ra "Dress Up Set" is unknown at this time.

    • She-Ra "Sword and Shield Set" is priced at $19.99.

    • The street date on these items is Wednesday, July 17th, but Target's aisle reset date isn't until July 28th. (*See Jason V's update below)

"Ok...so I checked with my friend who is a manager at a Target near me...yes today is the technical release date and yes some stores may have received the items but the actual "set", as in the date they reset the isle it's going to be in, is not until the 28th of this month. So many of us may not see them until then. Also, some stores may have product sitting in the back that will not make it out till that date... he said you can always ask and if the store has it they should bring it out to you. But I can confirm as of right now that there is not a store anywhere near NW Indiana that has stock at this moment...cause if there was...I'd be driving there now..."

MATTEL:"Teleporting fast on the scene, the fierce princess of Bright Moon is always ready to protect the honor of Grayskull! #SheraXMattel #SDCC2019 #Shera"

    Annalise (the_ageofa):ARGHH mommmmm! ✨ : @mattel
Pt 4 and y’all guessed it, it’s our favorite spunky teen glitter princess w mom issues, the third part of the Best Friends Squad...it’s GLIMMER!!! ✨✨ I mean, how could we launch SPOP toys without including everyone in the Best Friends Squad? (Catra’s a honorary member, I have my for a eventual redemption Zuko style pls). This teaser is all about her seeing the front of her shoes but I actually can’t wait for the whole 360 of the shoes to be revealed at #SDCC!!! You are all going to freak! Only 7 days until all will be revealed!!!

    Catra teaser from Mattel!

    MATTEL: "Who's going to stop Catra? #SheraXMattel #SDCC2019 #Shera"

    --------------------

    Annalise (the_ageofa):
    Hey Adora ❤️ : @Mattel
SHE’S HERE and it’s a partial face reveal!!! Out of all the characters in the line, I have been the most excited for Mattel to unveil Catra, not only because she’s my favorite (snarky, badass, looks great in a tux and a dress, morally grey) but also because I know she’s so many of your faves too! I can’t wait for y’all to see how many details we packed into her full doll but for now here’s a fun little tidbit about her. When you work with a collaborative partner on a line (in this case the Dreamworks licensing and the animation studio), it takes a lot of effort and back and forth tweaking as both sides make sure that it truly represents the animation and works as a toy. When it came to Catra, we painted the head for the first time for our test model way back when and EVERYONE loved it, straight out of the gate. For those of you in the business, y’all know how rare that is! So if that’s not a good omen for the future, I don’t know what is!

Question: what’s the scale of this line?

Mattel: The dolls are not scaled.

    --------------------

Kidscreen updated the article that I posted yesterday with the following information.

The full range will launch at Target in the US in August, with dolls available for US$14.99 and US$29.99.

    Bow teaser from Mattel!

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BzNzzkEgO9V/

MATTEL: "Some might say he's the master of the crop top while others call him the voice of reason. ❤️ #SheraXMattel #SDCC2019 #Shera"

    --------------------

Annalise (the_ageofa): Here we go - PT 2 of the mainline teasers! I know, I know!!! We actually made a boy character!!! Well honestly, Bow is such a sweetheart it’s pretty hard to not make him. I know a lot of people have been asking about articulation so you can see elbow jointing (hint hint rebodiers rejoice!) AND Bow here has something you can’t see in this photo that I made sure to include that I know a lot of you have really been wishing for in a mainline boy doll Ps: How gorgeous are these teasers created by our social media team???

Question: If I may ask, will there be playsets and like alternate outfits? (low key I need the princess prom outfits)

Annalise (the_ageofa): Sorry! That’s confidential BUT speaking in general most toy brands don’t start with playsets// new looks at launch (see: Harry Potter, MH, DCSHG) but if they do well and everybody loves them, some more magic happens and tadah! Playsets! New Looks! So keep those fingers crossed!

Question: So excited! Are you allowed to share the size of the dolls?

Annalise (the_ageofa): I would check the specs on the SDCC 2pk on the Mattel website! These should match up as they were designed to work in the same line

Comment: Oh my gosh! I love the She-Ra reboot! Really hope to see these made! Bow is such a sweetheart

Annalise (the_ageofa): the Mattel page has more info but they are coming soon

Mattel launches new She-Ra doll range

The toymaker’s line inspired by the DreamWorks animated series will be unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

Mattel will unveil a new doll range inspired by the DreamWorks animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power at San Diego Comic-Con next month. The toymaker previously released toys inspired by the original ’80s toon, though it’s not yet clear if Mattel will expand this new range to include additional categories.

The first offering—a two-pack doll set available exclusively to Comic-Con attendees (pictured)—is featured on Mattel’s website but there is no information available yet on when the full doll range will launch at retail.

News of Mattel’s new range comes as DreamWorks continues to expand its consumer products program for the series. The company recently partnered with Scholastic to launch an extensive line of books in the US and Canada this summer. The publishing range will include original fiction, graphic novels, fill-in journals, in-world guidebooks and novelty box sets based on She-Ra. Her Universe will also debut new She-Ra designs for Hot Topic at Comic-Con.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power follows the adventures of a young girl who transforms into a mythical warrior princess. The series was originally picked up by Netflix at the end of 2017, its second season premiered on Netflix in April and DreamWorks is producing a third season set to premiere on August 2.

The product push for She-Ra comes as streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon work to build CP programs for shows without the benefit of traditional metrics like Nielsen ratings. Last year, Netflix recruited Christie Fleischer to fill the newly created role of global head of consumer products and tasked her with developing a CP portfolio for Netflix original series and films, overseeing retail and licensing partnerships, publishing, interactive games, merchandising and experiential events.

Some additional details from Darren Sander's Instagram page.

The Adora doll was designed by @the_ageofa

Question: Does this come with the she ra/shadow weaver as an alternate outfit or is this something else?

Darren (vitamin_d_81): "this is a separate Adora doll"

Annalise (the_ageofa): "this is a seperate playline doll (avail at retailers) - keep up with Mattel to see the latest info"

Question: Is she shorter than She-Ra?

    Annalise (the_ageofa): "yes!"

    Also -

Annalise (the_ageofa): AHHHH!!! It’s happening!!! For anyone who saw that SDCC exclusive and went “man I wish there was a regular toyline that us normal people could get”...@mattel has got you! Who’s in this first wave? You’ll have to find out at SDCC but lemme just say that I feel that all the main ships will be covered In the meantime enjoy the back of Adora’s head that I designed

Question: It is really awesome that this line is happening...but why only at target!?...we don't leave all in the us....fans should have the same chances to get them

Annalise (the_ageofa): the reasons most lines start as a “retailer exclusive” just in the US is because sometimes stores aren’t sure that there are a lot of fans out there yet (especially for a show like Shera that hasn’t been dubbed in all the different languages yet). That means the sales people in your region that decide whether a new toy line should come to you is “watching the markets” aka you guys, the customers - they look at if the fans love the line in the US and also if people locally are asking for the toys to see if they will help make the line international! The way you can help on your half is getting fans in your area to tweet // email // ask your local stores that you want the line- this will let them know that there are enough fans out there for it to come over (for the record I am so excited about this line and I truly hope that it goes everywhere soon!)

Comment: Congratulations I hope these dolls can also be bought abroad!

Annalise (the_ageofa): not for 2019 - if you want product to go international one of the best ways is to “create demand” by asking / tweeting / emailing your local toy retail stores letting them know you are interested! Sometimes w a new show like this (especially because it hasn’t been dubbed in all languages on Netflix) a region’s sales person might not be sure that anyone local has seen the show and would want the toys! By letting your local stores know that fans are out there, they might be more excited to stock new stuff!

    Also -

Comment: THANK GOODDDD I was so worried and scared that Mattel wouldn’t make a new doll line because of the lgbt themes in she ra and I’m happy they are!!! Guess I’m back on team mattel

Annalise (the_ageofa): we just had to wait until there was a fandom built up first it’s all about the right timing

The amount of times they posted “coming to target” on a fb thread just a bit ago was comical

The more Princesses Of Power merchandise the better in my opinion.

This is so fantastic it's going to be so much fun participating in a MOTU/POP line that is enjoyed by actual young new fans.

Thanks for all of the information Tallstar - I'm excited to see more of the retail line!

It's interesting that Adora will be shorter than She-Ra. The SDCC She-Ra and Shadow Weaver appeared to share the same body, but perhaps I'm mistaken and Shadow Weaver does have the shorter body.

I am interested to see if there is an accompanying 6" action figure line.

And I do wonder what the comment about "main ships" means. Is that simply confirming She-Ra and Catra? I don't really follow the "shipping wars" for She-Ra and the Princesses of Power so I don't know what the "main ships" are.

It does seem that way. Unless, maybe SW is floating above ground and there's an extra stand under that dress. (I have no info on this, just speculating)

I also hope it comes to europe!

But the first mega construx motu were also exclusive to walmart. There was also no sign outside the u.s., isn't it?

With She-ra dolls it would be sad. Maybee my dougther would like some of them. But i would'nt collect a u.s. only line for her...

If I remember correctly, DC Super Hero Girls was first released exclusively to Target, then later it became available elsewhere. Perhaps they are following that same model here.

How long was the time period between the "exclusive" release and the release elsewhere?

I want to say it hit Target in April 2016 and elsewhere by Fall 2016, but maybe the toon aired in April not the toys. I didn't keep up with them after the first 4 dolls really, I bought them to see what this whole "action doll" thing was about, and I thought at the time that She-Ra would be a great inclusion for the line. Getting her own line--even better!

With a Fall release for these toys, maybe Target will only get a few months exclusivity, before the holiday onset? You'd think you'd want these in as many stores as possible for the height of the holiday shopping season.

BTW I just saw the 2019 DC SHG doll redesigns, and wow it looks like a real downgrade in design and articulation. Hopefully the retail She-Ra dolls will have the same design and articulation as the SDCC ones have (which are basically the old DC SHGs bodies). I wonder if DC SHGs wasn't as profitable as hoped for, and hence the seemingly cheaper redesigns. I always got the sense that DC SHGs wouldn't be the easiest sell to girls.

I sort of took it as She-Ra is the flagship, but the other ships would be there too. Especially since there wasn’t a ‘ before it.

For any fellow Aussie fans, I got the following expected unhelpful response from Mattel Australia about the line being available down under:

Thank you for contacting Mattel, we appreciate the opportunity to respond.

We have not been advised of any plans at this stage.

Of course, I doubt Australia is at the top of the list when Mattel plans its worldwide product releases.

South Africa never even got the original POP line as far as I can remember - He-Man was pretty big here though. Hopefully this time around the toyline reaches us.

It’s not lipstick, his lips are just a different shade than his skin, as lips tend to be.

You look pretty pumped for somebody without a pulse
