    MOTU Origins x WWE Mash-Up Line

    Man, on one hand.. it’s been a war to get anything MOTU related on retail shelves but drips and drabs, and this gets a whole line right out of the gate. I’ve got some kinda proxy jealousy thing going on.

    I can’t deny the designs are a ton of fun and there are some funny references there that I get, but I haven’t been into WWE for over a decade.

    Kinda bittersweet about this. Battle armor Macho Man and Hunter as versions of Skeletor are pretty great though.

    These are great! Not really my thing, but great. Hopefully gets a new generation excited about MOTU. Leveraging the huge WWE brand to push MOTU is a great idea.

    Macho Man at Arms, the arena, and MAYBE Rey Mysterio are my easy buys and I’m not even a wrestling guy. Those seem like they could blend into a MOTU shelf. I like the Man E Faces one. Some of these feel like they could be worth it for customizing.

    I think this is SUPER smart and EXACTLY the right marketing approach but the 80s guys mesh better with this style for my money.

    I will buy a Sgt. Slaughter for sure if they do one. Might also be swayed by a ref or commentator if it means I can headswap MOTU characters into suits/tuxedos.

    I’d probably also be tempted by a “Backstage Ambush Snake Mountain” or an “Entry Stage Slime Pit”.

    Keep in mind, wrestling playsets are low price. I bet the Grayskull Arena will be under $30 unless it includes figures and might start at $20.

    I’m not into wrestling myself but the ones who bled over into cartoons and pop culture like Sgt. Slaughter and Randy Savage (and The Rock and Dave Bautista) grab my attention as do the ones whose designs look like MOTU characters.

    The arena interests me mainly for putting MOTU characters into. It has a lot of love in terms of how they adapted it and will probably be super-affordable. I might need to work up a sticker to cover the WWE logo but in my head it’s an Eternian arena. If they do a new fold out Grayskull, it might act as the floor between halves for me.

    I think we need a reminder that products you may not like are not an assault on you or your fandom. They’re toys that kids are going to buy and play with.

    Makes me want to see :
    1. Mr. Perfect - cross over with Merman " Mr. Merfect"
    2. Hogan - give him any cool accessory and it 'll work - I am a real Eternian
    3. Ric Flair -Randor-like accessories ( I am hearing him cutting a promo with skeletor talking about Snake Mountain)
    4. Jake the Snakeman - with the snakemen logo and green skin!!!!!
    5. Undertaker is a given - with staff and urn
    6. Razor Ramon - with razor hands
    7. Great Muta - Classic Muta would be awesome in this line but some cool ninja/shogun / samurai accessories would be killer
    8. Doink the Clown - C'mon an evil clown in the MOTU verse
    9. Andre the Giant????? I'd opt to get larger $20.00 figures for this //
    10. Shockmaster - as is / no changes necessary

    No female wrestler mash-ups?

    Surely we'll get homages to Teela, Evil-Lyn, Sorceress, She-Ra and Catra?

    I want a Sgt. Slaughter in this style more than any other wrestler, hopefully with a mini-tank of some kind.
    Proud supporter of the Snake Men.

    Dare I say it, but they’re a very silly idea. Cool for anyone who fancies them, but not for me.

    * Andre the Giant as Ram Man!
    * Paige as Catra!
    * Cactus Jack or Kane as Trap Jaw!
    * Randy Orton as Kobra Khan!
    * Jake "The Snake" Roberts as King Hiss!
    * Daniel Bryan as Moss Man!
    * Asuka as Sorceress!
    * Golddust as Blast Attak!
    * AJ Lee as Evil-Lyn!
    * Goldberg as Fisto!

    Good luck with that. May want to check out the last few years on the goings on between the Punk family and the WWE, doubt either CM Punk or his wife AJ Lee will be signing any new contracts to work with the WWE in any capacity any time in the near future, even for one of their action figure lines.

    Well, this guy should be fairly easy to customize into a MOTU-style Shao Kahn figure.

    After checking them out, I am pretty happy about this line!

    I have NO intentions of buying a single one of them, but it shows a big commitment to the MOTU brand by Mattel. Obviously, they plan on getting lots of use out of the new Origins bucks. That should mean lots of MOTU figures.

    Rey Mysterio has previously worn outfits that represent comics characters, wonder what the odds are of him having that Stratos Outfit made for an entrance when they are released

    Kudos to those who want them, but I have never been interested in wrestling, and have no interest in these. That also gives me one less panel at Power Con to worry about attending (which means another hour on the sales floor for me ).

    Hasbro buying Mattel would be horrible for everyone...

    While I don't see MOTUxTF, I could see MOTUxTMNT. Playmates and Mattel seem to have a working relationship, if going by TMNT WWE and Ghostbuster lines is any indication. Also part of me would love to see Playmates tackle the Street Sharks.

    It would probably go the other way if they did that, right?

    TMNT as MOTU characters?

    The reverse doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

    Although maybe you could have something like:

    Don-at-Arms
    Mike-a-Nek
    Raph Man
    Leorko

    and

    Battle Rat

    Teamed up against:

    Shredator
    Kraangak
    Beastbop
    Trapsteady

    Here's the thing, though. That's if Playmates did it.

    I'm thinking it's far more likely that Mattel would get a one-off to something that somebody else has the regular license for than for Mattel to license MOTU out to anyone else.

    And what would Mattel TMNT be? I don't think they'd do a Playmates style mashup. They'd make MOTU the main thing getting mashed up with something else.

    Ghostbusters He-Man or something makes sense to me as a Mattel product because it's a He-Man that has a proton pack and a logo slapped on. TMNT He-Man doesn't make sense to me unless it's He-Man as a Ninja Turtle who isn't one of the main four.

    It's like if you had Stranger Things He-Man. That would be a McFarlane thing if it's a Stranger Things character done up as He-Man. For it to make sense as a Mattel thing, it would have to be He-Man done up as someone else.

    Maybe something like the DC Collectibles TMNT/Batman would work where you just have the Four Turtles and Shredder as "guest characters" in a MOTU-based line and then... uhm... He-Man and Battle Cat mutated together and Skeletor and Panthor combined with some sort of thing where the Dimension X mutagen gets used on MOTU characters?

    It's gotta be something where MOTU isn't the tacked on part and gets a lot of the focus for Mattel to want to do it.

    Here's some new news and images from this line: https://toynewsi.com/news.php?itemid=34420

    The Rock, Braun Strowman/ Beast-Man, and Scareglow Undertaker are all new to me. Based on parts and accessories shown, I think we're sure to be getting Spikor, Battle Armor Variants, Stratos, Fisto, Man-E-Faces, Terror Claws Skeletor, and Scareglow in Origins. Honestly, Mattel is probably making an insanely smart move by releasing this line. They're building up the MOTU parts library with the WWE line's budget, getting MOTU fans to buy WWE figures, setting up WWE fans to buy some MOTU figures, test running the Origins bodies, and getting the MOTU brand out there a little more than it's been.
    I serve up lots of hot, fresh action figure reviews on Action Figure Barbecue!

    I hope they get some WWE females like Asuka, Becky, Charlotte, Nia and Sasha.

    A Bret Hat as Rio-Blast would be cool.

    Brock Lesnar as Hordak with a Paul Heyman as Imp.
