    Modern ThunderCats Toys Thread (2)

Hi, Gang! We had some technical difficulties in the first TC thread, so let’s continue the discussion here for Mattel’s (brief) line as well as the new offerings from Super 7, to be revealed August 12th, 2019! (Once we figure out the troubles with the other TC thread, we can merge the two or something.)
MOTU Origins Most Wanted: Skeleteen, Prince Keldor, Anti-Eternia Characters, and for the love of the Sorceress and Julie Winston, ODIPHUS!!!

I’m going to go with shiny for the new line! We’ve gotten furry before, and when I look back on memories of the cartoon, etc, I always think of it as shiny! The one Bandai did in their very brief Classics line was shiny, and I liked that one. Is it the 12th yet?

I thought it was just me having issues. I think Mumm-ra cursed the old thread with his ding dong dell rhymes.

So what are folks' thoughts about adding in some 20XX Thundercats stuff? (If they are going to go deeper than the core team and mutants, etc.)

Original characters? The Duelist, the Drifter, Tookit, Leo, Panthera, etc.

Or how would you feel about them using obviously superior 20XX designs for certain characters over original? Like Driller or King Claudus?

Or how about second versions of certain characters in 20XX? Maybe instead of releasing the original Thunderkittens and Pumyra again, release their 20XX design first?

Definitely don't mess with the core team and mutants. Originals first on those for sure.

But any room for any 20XX in the line? Thoughts?

Honestly I didn't care for the 200x series. Besides Super7 already has four waves of Thundercats Classics in the works. Which means the core teams are being completed and we already heard in the other thread that they are also making the Lunataks so those would be part of the four waves in the works. I doubt there will be any 200x style offered.
So Glad Super7 has the Thundercats Lic. Looking forward to all they have to offer.

Shiy and metalic. It was always that way in the cartoon. Bandai's shield looked and functioned a lot better than the 4 Horsemen Mattel version.

Personally I hope not, I hated the majority of the 2011 designs and wasn't that keen on the cartoon.

Bandai's claw is horrible, I can't stand those skinny fingers, it doesn't look threatening or strong. Undoubtedly, the best is the one that IconHeroes sculpted for the mini-statue, that is quite similar to the 4Horsemen claw, but without hair. It's perfect. I used it in the mock up that I published a few weeks ago, take a look.

Yes I seen that. Looked good. I admit the fingers on Bandai's were a bit thin but the overall size and proportion to the finger looked good.

I originally subscribed to the first Matty line, but then cancelled it the very next day when they announced the series was going to be stopped after that first release of figures. If Super7 comes out and says that there's only going to be one wave of releases, or gives us some ridiculous "We'll see" answer about getting more figs created afterwards, then I won't subscribe to this one. I hate incomplete lines, and I'll especially be upset if whatever they decide to release doesn't have the original 8-back figures. I don't need a random Grune or Jagga with no one else on my shelves. But maybe if they plan some sort of Ultimate Lion-O release, I'd bite on that.

Still, I won't support a line of non-main characters that will never get to the central heroes and villains. If Super7 wants my money they need to guarantee the main team at the very least.

Super7 Has four waves in the works.
We will have complete core teams, and someone else heard the Lunataks are getting made too.

    I agree with this.

I really do think that the original series does NOT hold up very well. Something about the acting and dialogue and stuff... just makes me cringe. He-man still holds up. GI Joe still holds up. Knight Rider is MUCH better now than it has any right to be... but Thundercats and Voltron? The designs and concepts were MUCH better then the actual product. The opening is still in the top 3 openings of all time, but the actual episodes... not great.

So I was all open to a 200x style reboot... but I really think the result there was over rated. Making the cats native to the planet... and an oppressive regime over the enslaved lizards... was just BAD... Making the eye of Thundera actually stolen property of Mumm Ra?? BAD.... and really the costumes and uniforms of the original really don't look good in cosplay... but they looked AWESOME on the toys and in the show. I hated the redesigns.

So really I don't want to see ANY of the redesigns show up in S7's line. That T-cats show GOT toys... now I want updated versions of MY cats :P And really I don't want ANYTHING even 2nd string to show up until at least all the main cast is done.... I don't even want Slyth and vulterman until I get all the thundercats. I'm just sooooo TIRED of the line dying before the cats are finished.

Interesting... Thanks for the info =)

If the above is true, then the only reservations I could have is if the figures are ugly or not, lol

If it turns out that we are finally getting a continuation of Classics, I will be very excited and appreciative. Clearly Super7 has worked long and hard to secure this license, and had to jump through a lot of hoops, so if we are finally getting new figures, I am buying whatever it is they put out and not complaining.

I really want to see them put out Cheetara and Tygra asap, just in case something goes sideways again. Thundercats lines have had the worst luck, so to have all three of those in the classic style, with updated articulation, would be amazing.

I have zero interest in the 20XX designs, no need to clog up the line with those.

As far as the claw shield goes, I don't really care as long as it's red like the toy .

I always found it quite odd that the LJN shield was made red rather than gold or yellow. Having said that though a lot of gold plastic on 80's toys, Transformers especially, was quite brittle so maybe that was the reason or perhaps it was just cheaper since the sword and the power ring were made of the same red plastic.

As far as I know, there's at least two variants - one with red hair, sword, and claw shield, and one wind orange hair, sword, and claw shield. They were probably all in the same mold in the factory.

I guess if you wanted to be slightly more screen accurate you could mix and match parts.

Personally I like the original designs over the 20XX ones. But, it would be kinda neat if they added in a Petalar as an accessory.

I have owned the series on DVD forever but am just now getting around to watching it. I'm about 8 episodes in. I am surprised how much I'm enjoying it, but at the same time, I agree with ALL of the above, especially the redesigns. While the 200x MOTU cartoon took the classic designs and (most of the time) improved upon them, 2011 ThunderCats took the original designs and made them messier and/or uglier. Only Mumm-Ra looks OK (in his mummified form), but that's mostly because they didn't change much about his look.

Having said all that, I don't need any figures from the 2011 series. I like some of the new characters like the Duelist, the Drifter, and the Petaltars, but I don't need figures of them. I'd rather the figure line focus solely on the classic cartoon.

According to the guy in the other thread, we should be getting at least 4 waves total, including the lunataks.

Wave 1 consists of 6 figures:

    Tygra
    Slithe
    Grune
    Jaga
    Figure #5 (updated Lion-o?)
    Figure #6

I hope he was right, I would be super excited for this wave.

There are Four waves in the works that's true but the first wave is only going to be 4 figures according to Brian Flynn.

Probably more like 3pm eastern time or later since Super7 doesn't even open for business until 11am or 12 noon Pacific time.

You mean, according to some guy who heard from Brian directly? Because on video, Brian just says “they are back there in a box”. And I don’t see any posts on Facebook where Brian directly stated “4 figure in wave 1 of Thundercats” either. I could be wrong, maybe he said that publicly somewhere else.

According to the guy from the other thread, it’s true that they were only showing 4 of the figures at SDCC, but wave 1 was to consist of a total of 6 figures.

We’ll find out one way or another soon enough!

This is what I've seen reported in several places - four were secretly shown at SDCC, but the wave will have six figures. I hope that's true!
