Masters of the Universe Revelation Netflix Series

Additional He-Man.Org Rules and Guidelines for Masters of the Universe Revelations Cartoon Thread - Please Read!

There has been a lot of discussion on where specific topics to be discussed land within this thread. This forum is intended to be all-ages and more light-hearted in spirit and is not to be dragged down into the typical debates about sex, politics, race and religion we see online often leading to anger and hurt feelings. Those topics can still be discussed, however they will be discussed in the Tar Swamp where there is a more open, adult platform for those topics.
To help keep the forums fun and friendly, the admins and moderators have conversed and decided guidelines on what can and can’t be discussed in this thread and what will be referred to the Tar Swamp.

    What can be discussed:
    • The specific reasons why we enjoy the show
    • Constructive reasons why we dislike the show
    • Reasons why we like/enjoy specific characters
    • Constructive reasons why we dislike characters
    • Relationships between characters (all inclusive and diversity - heterosexual, homosexual, pan, etc.) that are clearly defined in the cartoon

    Topics for the Tar Swamp:
    • Debates about sex, politics and religion
    • Debates about race (discussion on race swapping of characters is allowed, but must not be political in nature)
    • Debates about morality and any sexually related topic, or any politics associated with sexuality
    • Speculation about a character’s sexuality

    Updated May 5, 2020:

Many fans have wondered what the characters will look like for the new Masters of the Universe Revelation cartoon. Kevin Smith had the following to say:

"It's in the style of an anime...what Netflix calls an anime original...but looks exactly like our classic characters. Nobody's been redesigned to where you're 'Oh that's the 2020 version.' They all look like they're supposed to. And the story functions as essentially the next episode when [the 1980s original animated series] stopped."

See everything Kevin had to say about the designs from this article on ComicBook.com.

Is it continuing the Filmation show or the 200X one? The logo looks more 200X

A continuation of 200X would be nice, but it's probably a brand new continuity.

    EXCITING NEWS!

(technically didn't "New Adventures" continue where 80s series left off?)

The 80's show didn't leave off anywhere. The episodes were literally stand-alone stories with no continuity whatsoever.

200X left off on a cliff-hanger. That series would make more sense to continue. Whatever. Just make it good. At least something is being made at all.

I'm excited, but is it a he man show or a Teela spin off? That blurb sounds like it's going to be all about a quest Teela goes on? Guess time will tell, can't wait to hear more though

    Very excited.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the anime part, the Netflix Castlevania has a great style that I think would work well for MoTU, if that’s the direction they’re going in.

Kevin said it would be faithful to the original show and not blow things up like some shows based on past IPs do, but have things in it like sword fights and Skeletor having more success. I was able to get a photo with him and an autograph.

So what's with the poster then? Why the use of different designs?

There are really odd quality issues. Bits are well done, others are oddly timed (the thrown spinning sword should not look choppy in motion) and some stuff looks bizarrely unfinished.

The unfinished looking animation at: 2:08 and 2:13. Barely any inbetween frames. Those bits are just a step away from this unfinished mess:

So its hard to say what it will be, until the actual series comes out.
I really wish they'd be honest and crystal clear.
Deceiving fans just isn't going to end well. This isn't the first time MOTU is getting a reboot. We can take it if this is another one. Just don't set us up for a major disappointment.

Just makes me shake my head. The original show is all about team work. No character should overshadow anyone.
And I've a nasty feeling they'll be using the premise to label any negative reaction as sexism...

On a side note, don't we already have enough stories where power sword gets lost?

I have a feeling this may introduce a new line of figures since it would be an anime style... This also may be another reason why Classics seems to have been put on the back burner for now...

Not happy about He-Man taking a back seat to Teela. There already is a feminist show, there is no reason to make MOTU into a feminist show

I think they’re just going with the Twin Peaks The Return style revival, which is KIND OF what the DC Comics did.

Everything is broken and we see them fight to put it back together.

So reuniting Adam and the Power Sword is a story arc.

I think that’s what the Origins line is for. Everyone has been questioning why they’re releasing Fall 2020 and not sooner and this probably why.

There are also the face changes.

There was a poster spotted at SDCC and taken down of an animated He-Man with Origins proportions and the new style head in front of a darker Filmation Grayskull.

I imagine the character designs will resemble the Origins toys.
