As I understood, Mattel only has the first rights to make toys and merchandising until 2023.

I could have misinterpreted, but I think this is why we are seeing so much MOTU stuff.
If it's coming from ToyGuru, who hasn't been with Mattel in about- what, six years now?- I wouldn't take any of what he says (outside of the specific timeframe during which he was a Mattel employee) as fact.

The idea that Mattel would spend all this money (and it is a lot of money) to re-launch a brand in a big way, with lots of merchandise, two animated series on the biggest streamer on the planet, not to mention the movie plans, as one last push to "capitalise" before the brand goes somewhere else is pretty funny. Why would they do that? Why would anyone do that if they knew the rights were going elsewhere, never to return? It’s just a waste of money that could (and would) be better spent on something they have and that's not going anywhere (Barbie, Hot Wheels, Fisher Price etc). I'm really amazed that so many people here genuinely seem to believe Mattel (or any company for that matter) would do that. Everyone who believes Toyguru needs to ask themselves a very simple question: If this is true, why, after all these years of saying it, has literally no one else come out to corroborate his claim? Not one other person. He is the only person on the planet with this knowledge, apparently. Literally. People on this site much more in the know than I am have already explained, in quite great detail, why Toyguru is mistaken about this matter. I can't be bothered to explain it myself. I just wish people here would stop talking about it, because it’s been put to bed time and time again.

I agree with a lot of your posts , but This one here is exactly where I am with revelations everything I see , I LOVE ( or don't dislike enough to spoil my enjoyment) but Everything I hear from the creators then sets alarm bells ringing ....

Honestly, what I am most curious about going into to this series is how all the side characters will be handled. Hope they do more for most than quick cameos.

What Voltron lacked in "big robot fights" (which I personally don't feel), it more than makes up for in individual character development - through great action set pieces which show off the capabilities/potential of each Lion Unit and its pilot.

The tower of power extends in ALL the right places

No , staying on topic though , this is probably " pre horde " so characters like dragstor , extendar and spout snout probably won't be in this . Shame really , I genuinely and unironically love snout spout .

Another fan favorite is The Problem With Power (which is generally considered to be the best episode of Filmation), which matches up with Adam giving up the power in this series.

Problem with Power is my favorite by far. We finally learned how He-Man changes back to Adam!

However Smith has said numerous times that the reason it’s focused on Teela is because she never got enough focus in Filmation which is the exact opposite of what you have observed.

Honesty, the guy is just talking out his backside and saying whatever pops into his head at that moment.

He’s been “recorded” twice in the past saying he was never a fan of MoTU yet now he’s “always been super fan”.

You can’t trust anything he says, he continually contradicts himself.

Now this doesn’t mean it can’t still be great but….it’s got to make you more than a little nervous.

Anyway, only 10 days to go…

Since Adam must lose the power sword in the new series, and I don’t want to see Teela become Te-Man, after long consideration I’ve decided that the character I most want to replace Adam as He-Man is Crackers. Popular media has only portrayed Clowns as comic relief or as evil. It’s 2021 and it’s time Clowns are represented as the truly heroic and powerful people we know they can be. I will be greatly disappointed if by the end of the series we can’t add He-Clown to our pantheon of heroes.

there have been 3 other voltron cartoons since the original and there will be more. This series didn't kill it any more or any less than the last two.

hell the last series didn't even GET a toyline.

Better yet Mekaneck! People think he might not be useful but think about it, Skeletor gains the power of Grayskull from the Power Sword leaving the Heroic warriors helpless. But behind Skeletor, Mekaneck extends to take the Power Sword. When grabbing the Power Sword he becomes He-Neck the most powerful neck in the Universe!

Hey, that's sincerely appreciated! I'm very much used to people telling me all my opinions are junk (not here specifically, just in general).

I think the biggest issue is that Teela had a lot of unresolved story threads... she has the deepest personal lore out of any other character. Especially with her connections to Adam, Duncan, Sorceress, Marlena/Randor, and Evil-Lyn.

I am excited to see how some of these relationships are resolved... it certainly makes for good storytelling!

Yeah that's something I don't think a lot of people think about. Out of the original core group she's the only one that's been completely in the dark. A lot more for her to discover once things go down so easier to write for.

So is everyone gonna ignore the fact that Kevin Smith claimed that they're finally giving Orko and in depth character arc only for the sole reason to be so they can kill him off to get back at the Orko haters?

Like dude I don't think the Orko haters are gonna care at this point. It only ticks off his fans. Heck, even I would have (eventually) been okay with him dying if you hadn't gave such a backwards reason to do so. When a character is written, you need to write for the fans of the character, not the haters.

Only silver lining of this for me, is that with KS being so open about this plot point, the fact that he has a potential season 2, and the current episode count stats, it's entirely possible Orko might come back. That and, character depth is character depth, regardless of what the intentions were.

You should put that under a spoiler warning.

Also Good God this is going to be an utter trainwreck. At this point, you might as well have just hired someone who had no attachment to MOTU either way instead of someone who seemed to take all the wrong ideas from it. Castlevania had problems, but at the very least, the Hammer Horror stories the writer loved (before he was outed as a sex pest and thrown out on his ass) and the games had a similar aesthetic. You would have been better off getting a superfan of Conan stories who never worked with He-Man and telling him to make He-Man Conan. You could work from a place of aesthetic similarity and narrative neutrality vs. this.

Most Voltron fans wanted to see "giant robot fights." If there is no giant robot then it totally misses the point of what Voltron was about it. The giant robot was the main course and the characters were the sides dishes. It makes sense that the toys didn't sell if series wasn't about the robot. People wanted to see the robot and when they didn't get what they wanted they took their money elsewhere.

Similarly people watch MOTU because they want to see He-Man and Skeletor. MOTU is a story about Teela said nobody ever until Netflix came around and rebooted it. If there isn't enough He-Man in revelations then people are going to walk away disappointed. Don't be surprised if this whole thing train wrecks.

Orko coming back? Considering it looks like we're seeing what leads up to his death in the first trailer, expect him to come back in a white robe and hat.
