Sadly, it can also lead to extremely unfortunate events - similar to what happened among the Voltron community.

I was actually afraid the same might happen when She-Ra and the Princesses of Power came out. Now, I see a lot of the same conjecture and speculation bubbling up around Revelation...
I guess we'll see in a few hours.

I think almost everyone is fully aware that there are still 5 more episodes coming. Do we have the whole story yet? Of course not. However it's not just about the destination, but the journey as well right? And if fully half of that journey isn't indicative of the content and tone of the whole (driving along in the wintery mountains when you suddenly hit a desert?) then it signifies poor and disjointed story telling.

I mean, it's entirely possible that the last five episodes will take a hard u-turn and prominently feature He-Man and Skeletor, but is it probable? Based on what we've heard so far, there's a better chance that I myself will get struck by lightning (and turn into a charred corpse instead of a buff gladiator ) than that happening. So I feel pretty certain that the half of the show we will soon see will be indicative of the last five episodes in January and feel confidant in judging the whole as such. To suggest that we need to wait until a product is finished before we are able to pass criticism on it is counter-intuitive and something that no TV critic in the history of TV has ever done, ever.

I totally agree with this. Besides, calling something "dark aged" is basically an ad novitatem fallacy and is not correct. Just because something is promoted as "inclusive" doesn't mean it's better. I want a He-Man show with a big dude riding a green tiger, not a male looking Teela saving him.

Another non-Spoiler review popped up in my news feed earlier. They gave it a 3 out of 5 and said that on the whole, it's really good.

...Except that He-Man is barely in it. He's in every episode but Teela and Evil-Lyn get the bulk of the screen time and storyline real estate.

They cited the lack of He-Man's presence and involvement as "the show's only glaring flaw". They addressed some people's pedantic arguments that "The show isn't called 'He-Man' so it doesn't NEED to center on him!" while correctly noting that "He-Man is synonymous with the MOTU franchise" and therefore lots of people are not going to like seeing him pushed so far into the background, especially the way Episode 5 ends.

Basically, if He-Man is your favorite character in the franchise - which is most likely the case for most people who will watch it - this show could potentially leave you incredibly frustrated despite being well-done altogether.

Sounds about right, based on the Spoilers I've read. I also think some parents should probably watch it by themselves first before sitting down to watch it with their kids, then decide if it's something their children are ready for. Everyone's kids are individuals but given the amount of characters being killed off, I think parents of young children should probably screen it first, just to be safe.

I wonder if this will be like the JLA film. It started with Doomsday. I hope they don't blow a shock value to early to give tension. That's what killed off Lois and Clark in the 90s. Once they were married, the tension was gone. Hopefully we will see some good tension between Adam and Teela. Something we did not get in any animated show. I am already missing the tension between Barry and Iris in the CW flash.

Also, for those of you who are expressing the same concerns over what we have heard as I am:

Netflix and other streaming services are apparently able to monitor exactly when viewers stop watching a TV show, which is supposedly referred to as the "Tune Out Time". If enough people keep switching off the show at around the same time in the episode, it raises a red flag that is noticed by the people who monitor these things at Netflix HQ.

Based on this, probably the best way to voice your displeasure to Netflix is to watch the first part of the show that does feature He-Man in it, and then when

He-Man and Skeletor both die and the show jumps to Teela
, turn it off. Maybe also give it a thumbs down too if you're feeling particularly angry.

Another option is to watch all the way through to the fifth episode, and then when

Adam is stabbed through the chest and permanently has his soul destroyed, forever being denied entry into He-Man heaven
, turn it off immediately. This one will probably be less effective, since you've already given Netflix their views for the entire five episodes and i'm pretty sure it's only in the last five minutes of the last episode or so.

I'm planning on doing the former, and i'll probably watch the rest of the show through some other, more nefarious, means. I may also go back and re-watch the first fifteen minutes again and again and keep turning it off after they end. The point is to stop watching the show as soon as it "subverts our expectations".

Will Netflix care whether I do this? Probably not, I know i'm just a drop in the bucket. But enough drops can make a pretty angry puddle.

The 6-month gap until we get the second half of the story is the worst part of all of it.

Like sure, some of that Spoiler-y stuff that happens to He-Man... you'd ASSUME that it'll be resolved in a satisfying way, right? But at the same time, they sure do a good job making it seem pretty airtight. Like "HOW can they possibly turn this around?"

The answer, obviously, is "We'll see". But 6 whole months is... I can't even imagine how heated some of the "conversations" around here (and on other corners of the internet) are going to get between Now and Then. Even IF the inevitable conclusion is a satisfying one, I don't think the next few months are going to be much fun at all. I see the "discourse" getting a lot worse before it gets better, to be honest.

More and more, I feel like being "divisive and controversial" was part of this show's mission statement, and I wish that weren't the case. Like yeah, you get people talking about your product, that way, but I feel like they probably could have played it more "safe" and people would be just as happy with it in the end, if not more so.

As it is, I know a ton of people aren't going to come back for Part 2 after they watch Episode 5. And that's a shame. BUT... well, choices were made.

I have had the same thoughts on splitting this season in half, people have been pretty adamant on their stances with this series that I'm not sure how much nuance will be had when talking about this show. For myself I am cautiously optimistic and will not come back here till I watch the show

I will NEVER give up on this show and I intend to go on loving and supporting it and letting Netflix and the creative powers that be know how I feel too.

My guess is that they're asleep.

Many, although maybe not all of them, live in North America and have day jobs.

Not half as insane as all the rantings of the people who haven't even seen Revelation yet.

At least I know I won't be disappointed because I find the good in everything.

I sincerely hope that you enjoy the show. I don't think any of the people are trying to ruin the experience for anyone else, but they are entitled to their opinion.

I'm just curious what the difference is between people who decided last year "I'm going to love this show no matter what!", and the people who said "I'm going to hate this show no matter what!"

Either way, it's pretty goofy to announce "I've already made up my mind, sight-unseen, and nothing will ever sway me from this position!" in my humble opinion.

I mean if I had a nickel for every time I assumed well in advance that something would be good, and then it turned out bad... OR that I thought it would be bad but ended up to be good... I could probably buy a solid gold house. That's life, that's half the "fun". Things don't always go the way you think they will, and anything can happen.

One of my all-time favorite sayings is, "There's many a slip twixt a cup and a lip."

Over here, I can just call it like I see it. I think the show's gonna be really good BUT He-Man is my favorite character in the series (and probably one of my Top 3 Favorite Fictional Characters Of All Time) so his lack of presence is inevitably going to irritate the living crap out of me even if everything else is terrific.

Which does NOT mean I won't like the show. I love Twin Peaks: The Return despite Dale Cooper only finally being "Dale Cooper" right before the show ends. I love Zack Snyder's Justice League despite Superman being offscreen for 98% of it. I can accept and enjoy things even if they weren't entirely what I would have done or wanted.

BUT, it does, can, and will prevent me from ever loving them completely and unconditionally. No matter what, whenever I talk about those things, or this show, I'm always going to be like, "Y'know what would've made it even BETTER, though...?" That just can't be helped.

Back on topic, I heard someone mention here or somewhere else online that a MOTU live action series was being developed for Netflix too, I hope that comes to pass as that would be awesome too.

God, that first episode was just....amazing. Everything you could want in an updated He-Man show. Wow. I think that's probably what i'll be rewatching again and again, and i'll definitely show that first battle to my son, right up to.....

.....the end of course, when Randor throws a fit, banishes Man-at-Arms, and Teela rage-quits

I couldn't help myself, I skipped to the last five minutes of the fifth episode. I'm actually relieved that it seems as though Adam is 'only' gravely injured (Skeletor stabs him through the kidneys and gut mid-transformation) but he doesn't seem to have explicitly died, at least not yet although they don't make it clear. There is a small piece of hope to hold on to until January that Adam will recover, although now i'm hearing that Part 2 will focus on Evil Lyn's story. Also, ALL of the scenes of He-Man (including Faker) from the trailer that hyped everyone up are from the first episode. We definitely don't see him again after that.

    Anyway, that first episode.....wow.....
