Whats up everyone, pretty cool to finally join this forum after running across it many times during my google searches for MOTU info. Very few things in my lifetime have even come close to my interest in MOTU. The thought MOTU provoked in me as a child, the complexities of its many great characters, the creativity it spawned to create my own characters ....to draw them in class....to the morality it instilled in me during my most impressionable years (i still remember--granted-the exact details could be a bit off as I haven't seen/looked it up since then-- but I have pretty vivid memory of He-Man returning to save Mer-Man's life from the Water sacrifice (?) god and telling Teela /the audience that every life is valuable...it was powerful and it was a different ideology than I'd gathered from my other childhood entertainment/ a hero saving a villain's life rather than leaving him to his fate/to die?--Yeah it was groundbreaking to me, and a message that is still needed. As a kid I took that to heart, I also interpreted it as people can still be redeemable and not to toss them away so quickly).
But to dig back a little earlier into my own "origin story"...my passion for all things MOTU started those years ago...I mean years and years ago, so long it feels like galaxies ago--- I remember being super young (not positive of my age but I remember the impact of how it felt). I was walking around a local department store with my family in my hometown; a store called Nichols --I happened to look up on the top shelf (what seemed to be 15 feet high) in the toy department and there sat that monster size box--that Eternia playset (found in the following moments the price tag on it was a Benjamin Franklin plus some--might as well been a million dollars that day because the chances of me getting it was lotto odds-but I still didn't leave the store that day disappointed). I still remember first seeing the huge majestic Lions face, on the front of a castle--and then I began to notice the adjoining castles on the box art, not to mention all those unique colorful characters - I had found my life's first obsession. I remember being so eager to learn everything I could about this Universe that was new to me. After staring at the box for what seemed to be a few moments --of course lower on the shelves were hanging dozens of different MOTU action figures. Though I couldn't talk my folks into buying me Eternia I left Nichols on that day with my first MOTU action figure--Webstor. From then on it was off to races. I accumulated quite a collection over the years that followed---
Fast forward to 2019: around the summer of this year I found most of my collection, figures packed up in boxes in my folks' attic (strongest sense of nostalgia I've experienced-- the figures, the colors, even the smell --minus how sticky they were lol ....all took me back, back to that time when I was a kid and everything was right in the world. That re-discovery made me curious what was going on if anything with the franchise now... I started looking at MOTU stuff online--I discovered the stuff I missed--the last He-Man I knew was the New Adv series which I never thought held a candle to the OG collection or cartoon. I couldn't believe how much I'd missed--the Anime looking series, the Super 7 remakes, the Classics run, etc....so here I am playing a bit of catch up, knowing that in the same way the Eternia set was out of my reach in my elementary school years, I don't have the money to get caught up on the stuff I've missed (plus the items still being released currently).
Looking forward to being part of this community/forum--what brought me here (one of dozens of reasons) is I'd love to find the collection of HD/high def scans of the original box artwork for the action figures, (possibly called backing cards(?) you know the backs--with the other figs pictured and the characters blurb/art on back? If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it--the only thing I've found online is mostly bad scans/photos from ebay listings etc....quality low, small, etc.
Anyway nice meeting you all, I look forward to joining you guys in the World of MOTU!! As one who wants to build up my PC with some of the collectibles outside of the original stuff, I welcome any advice...any tips or ideas on best way to start collecting what I've missed, which figs to begin looking for, should I focus on certain ones before they skyrocket in price/where to look online if anywhere besides ebay etc,etc --thanks for any info, take care my friends![]()
