    Greetings from Florida

I had so many great toys in the early 80s as a child. I wish I still had them all but for the most part I gave them away, sold them or lost them. I have been making replacement parts and new accessories for toys for years. After a move a few years back I found a couple of old He-Man figures. The legs on those figures were loose or had fallen off. I started working on a way to fix them and created a ball style band that worked well. I fixed my figures and thought I would list some of my bands for sale to see if there was an interest. There was a big interest.

In 2017 one of my buyers suggested making the heads a D type of head instead of a ball type head. From then on the D type or V2 was a huge seller. I made some additional adjustments and created a smaller band for female figures. Then I received a request for a similar flat band for Granok, an inhumanoids toy. This band worked very well also, though interest was limited. While all of this was going on competitors came and went selling similar bands and even injection molded bands, which looked great! Unfortunately that all but ended in late November of 2019 when a German competitor registered a design patent in Germany for leg bands and had ebay and etsy remove all listings of anything that even slightly resembled a he-man leg bands to corner the market.

Unlike many other countries Germany does not require any research in to prior designs or patents to file a design patent in Germany. The German patent office grants a patent then it is up to someone to come along and invalidate it if the design is not unique or violates another existing patent, of course at a much higher fee. ebay and etsy just remove listings when they receive an IP claim and leave it to the parties involved to resolve the issue. If someone is willing to perjure themselves on a legal document to corner the market on rubber leg bands for action figures that are nearly 40 years old I have my doubts there is anything to discuss.

I have received a lot of questions about my leg bands since they disappeared and one of my customers suggested making a post on toy forums or social media. He-Man.org seemed like the most relevant forum I ran across to potentially reach people who have previously purchased legbands from anyone and might wonder why there is now only one seller on ebay and etsy. I did not mention the sellers name as I am aware that is often not allowed on some forums but if you do a search for He-man leg bands it is very likely the only seller you will find on ebay or etsy from Germany or anywhere in the world for that matter.

I hope my first post has not broken any rules. If so I take no offense in it being removed or edited.

Thank you if you took the time to read the wall of text above. I am looking forward to exploring the topics here.

    Welcome to the forums!
It seems weird someone can do a leg band patent, but, what do I know? Patents are a weird territory.
Hope to see you at Power-Con 2020!

Definitely worth upgrading your account pal, I’m sure the shipping costs for folks in the US isn’t very interesting from said unnamed German keizer of rubber legbands, so you could still reach a good audience on the marketplace here!

    Welcome to the forums!

Thank you all for the heads up on the marketplace. I will look in to that.

I do not even think it is that big of a deal if he wants to patent his version of his design. It is just crazy to think he would go that far to kick everyone off of etsy and ebay. I mean he makes the best bands in the world after all according to his listing. I am more concerned some one else will start doing the same thing for some other toy line when there are more than enough customers to go around. ebay and etsy enforcing design patents in countries where they are not even valid seemed strange at first but I guess I understand etsy and ebay want to be able to do business unmolested in Germany.

Drakken it is not feeling much like Florida here right now, 28 degrees, but thanks for the welcome.

Have you tried listing for US customers only? Maybe they’re being taken down because they appear on the German eBay?

Where in the state are you? I'm in Miami. It's in the 60's here (which is considered arctic temperature for many locals).
