It tells us that for whatever reason, we are not suffering as large of a death rate due to this thing as many other countries. I'm not telling you what to conclude over it. Math does not imply opinions.

It is a single fact in isolation, which does not tell us much of anything. Each country had its first confirmed case at a different time, and responded to it differently. They are vastly different sizes, with different population densities, and different proximities to other nations.

I know there’s much bigger concerns, but I’m starting to get nervous for Power Con.

I think it's better for attendee's health and guest & Organizer's health than losing Power Con.

Yes it is quite obvious that many people are so unaccustomed to seeing facts without an accompanying editorial opinion or dose of propaganda that their instinctive reaction is hostility or dismissiveness.

If you can't formulate your own opinions based on the data I presented, or in the absence thereof do what any ordinary human being would do, and simply ignore it, I'll help you out:

Those numbers give me a good bit of optimism for the US, especially since we have not tested nearly as many people as some of those other countries have. The numbers also counteract this narrative I've seen in the mainstream news suggesting that the US is on a particularly perilous precipice with this disease.

When sharing any raw data in the future, I'll be sure to include an unsolicited opinion for those in need of one.

Might be helpful if someone can figure out the reason, Mr. Spock.

Your opinion was solicited. I'm just not sure you're right.

I think if Powercon need to be cancelled over lockdown I'm okay with it, for everyone's health. my only suggestion is just doing Online exclusive streaming for viewers.

Two more months still puts us at the end of June.
But I don't know if people in the USA can handle being locked down for two more months. So many people are having a lot of trouble in places with stay-at-home measures, and it's not even been two weeks.

I'm still waiting for a nationwide lockdown to happen that lasts three weeks (maybe four). Many scientists have said the virus hasn't peaked yet, and we're seeing that to be the case. The most common theoretical peak being talked about right now would be three weeks from now.

If it has to be cancelled (which I do not think will be the case), there won't be any online streaming. The show would just be moved to a future date or we'd just skip 2020 and do a 2021 show. But I still remain optimistic.

There are a number of indicators that seem to gently push towards some conclusion about the death rate.

The first being when the outbreak was realized. How long did it have to spread before people were aware?

The second being that AGE + Previous existing health conditions seem to be the biggest factor in how an individual will fair having caught the virus.

So the social isolation for all makes good sense. And it especially makes good sense for people who are higher risk to have severe symptoms if they catch it. It's not much and it's not exact science but it's something to work with.

Anecdotally we've had many old citizens here in Alabama that have caught the virus and recovered. So far we've only had 1 death out of 386 confirmed cases in the state (as of 12 hours ago) and she was older with underlying health conditions. Not drawing any real conclusions here but suggesting that we don't have to hold up "the end is near" signs yet.

I think, during these difficult times, it's as important to emphasize the tragic details of this virus and the heartbreak that comes along with it. But I think it is also important for people to have something positive, engaging and fun. It's an intangible, but those kinds of things lift our spirits, help us to smile and give us the strength to get through this. I think Power-Con is one of those kinds of things and I pray that it happens.

I'm confidant at this point that Power-Con will be unaffected, but I would not be terribly surprised if much scheduled before its time-frame will be postponed or otherwise altered in some way. I think all the optimistic appraisals of returning to normal within the next few weeks are asking for trouble.

I have a district-wide meeting at 1:30 this afternoon; I'll be interested to hear what the leadership has to say. So far, we are closed through April 3rd, while my wife and daughter's district is closed another week beyond that. Still, both districts have made such massive pushes to set up what feel like rather entrenched forms of online instruction, I am anticipating extensions all around. I honestly would not be surprised if we are online only for the remainder of the school year, though I miss my students terribly.

According to its current trajectory, the United States is set to have more cumulative confirmed cases than any other nation. Iran had to dig mass graves so large they are visible from space. But keep believing this is no big deal, and it will all blow over soon.

Come on! This is fear mongering at it's worst. Here's the actual picture of the "mass graves". They're circled in blue. Check out the car so big it's ALSO visible from space!

...Off-Topic Fendi, but I just watched a couple of horror-comedy zombie-movies set in Kuala Lumpur, and it looks like a really great place to visit someday!
...Back on Topic lol, Here in Las Vegas, Many businesses are shut down, but there's no "mandatory lock-down" at this time. My job (truck-scheduling & logistics for a gaming company) is still active, even with casinos everywhere shutting down, the sale-execs are still trying to push orders for April and May. They started talking about an unpaid furlough for the month of April a few days ago, then today said we'd probably til be working until Monday the 6th. I have a feeling they may not shut down at all, lol.

Agreed Fellas. Cruciferous veggies are very helpful to old ticker and fighting potential caners. I lightly steam mine in chicken broth with onion, garlic and a spring of fresh snipped rosemary, add some pasta and diced grilled chicken, some hot pepper flakes and a little fresh graded Parmesan and I'm all set.

When so many people are dying so quickly that the government is resorting to interring bodies in mass graves, that is not fear-mongering. You want to minimize the scale, but only 150 people are dying each day in Iran; 250 people are dying each day in America. On day 17, we were at where they were at on day 29. Our trajectory is 1.7 times faster than theirs. Where do you think we will be on day 29?

What?? We only reached a thousand total deaths as of yesterday! Where are you getting these numbers????

Also, these are rows of individual graves. In a cemetery. Not a "mass grave".

After you edited: We still have not been having 250 deaths per day. We had one day (so far) with that many deaths.

Sorry, I transposed the wrong column. Thank you for pointing out the mistake. I corrected the previous post. While a daily mortality rate that is 1.7 times higher is an improvement over one that is 6.7 times higher, it is still 1.7 times higher than a country that is 12 days ahead of us and currently burying people in mass graves. Hospitals in New York City are already having to store bodies in refrigerated semi-trucks.

We're okay here as long as we keep political discussion out of it. (Tricky as that may be at times, but rules are rules.)

My district has extended our shut-down until April 13th (14th for students). I imagine it could be longer, based on data I've seen and the subtleties expressed in our meeting (via Zoom).

I'm' going to say, hopefully, the many other factors involved with this disease, along with the many health and socioeconomic differences between the US and other countries, will be the reason the math will not be the same by the time this all slows down.

And the definition of a mass grave is a pit dug in the ground to receive mass numbers of the deceased. This picture is clearly of multiple individual graves dug in a cemetery.

We're waiting for the announcement today on all school here in Alabama as far as closing. Suspecting they will all be closed for the year.

I'm having a forced holiday at home for a month, our government said earlier this week that it extended till 14th of April, that was started on 18th of March.

WHO has warned that just like China and then Europe after it, the US is scheduled to become the next epicentre. As it is now leading the world in terms of confirmed cases (knocking off China from the top spot), that looks to be the case. All we can all do is do our part and hope for the best.

We will exit from the other side of this.
