Absolutely! Hard to believe. We're both very fortunate.

    Happy Anniversary Uncle Jack.

Is it me or this whole Covid situation we're having right now is just a tip of the iceberg or end of a beginning?

Depends. Are you talking about the effects of the virus itself on the physical health of people, or the government's reaction to the virus?

The government responses here are adequate, but the health minister say there's a big probability that the lockdown going to restart again.

Yeah, two actually, the effect on the virus and what if the lockdown and restricted movement failed against the virus.

The virus definitely isn't going anywhere and the "normalcy" everyone is clamoring for has set with the sun. It's all adapting and going forward from here.

The latest numbers from the CDC show that the virus has a .26% mortality rate. Meaning, if you catch it, you have a 99.74% chance of recovery.

There are studies now showing that the longer shutdowns continue in response to COVID-19, the higher the death toll is going to be worldwide, not due to the virus, but due to famine, drug/alcohol abuse, and suicide. In other words, more people may die from the reaction to the virus than from the virus itself.

We had 30 people overdose here the other day. That's a shocking number. Our mayor said its mental health that is now his biggest concern.

My friend works at a hospital. It's not COVID patients that are walking through those doors its people with mental health issues. People are at their breaking point. Look at the food lines we see that are miles long. The majority of these people had jobs. Now they do not. People are angry, they are hungry, and they are jobless.

Imagine how all these people would have to cope with a real crisis like WWII!

If we had a functioning unemployment system that worked properly people wouldn't have to worry. Here in Florida people are STILL waiting to get their unemployment benefits…our governor has blamed the people for not filling out their information correctly and local media have easily proven that claim wrong. Walt Disney World's employees were automatically enrolled into the unemployment system and some of those 77,000 employees are STILL waiting for their unemployment. Clearly, the unemployment system in general is set up to work against the public…and specifically in Florida it's downright hostile toward the public.

    This is absolutely terrible.

Any business, that was forced to lay their employees off, should have been able to automatically enroll every one of them in unemployment benefits due to the unprecedented situation. AND the people should have started seeing checks come in shortly thereafter.

This just goes to show how broken the system is and, more so, how much it needs to be fixed.

Here in Florida, it's optional for businesses to automatically enroll their employees for unemployment benefits. The state of Florida seemingly held off for nearly a month before paying out any of the "enhanced benefits" of $600 a week. The state made somewhere around $24 million in interest by holding on to it's share of the unemployment money. Accidental? I don't think so. Florida's unemployment system is the worst in the country by design. Luckily for all the Disney employees…the company has continued to cover all their cast member's health benefits at no cost to the employees. Unfortunately not all companies are neither that generous nor can afford to.

I think a lot of this boils down to a society that's taught to have debt as if it's just part of being an adult. People live beyond their means and then when something unexpected like a pandemic happens…people's lives are destroyed financially because they're living paycheck to paycheck no matter what level of income they're at.
