MOTU Brazilian Editora Abril comic translation - 'The Submarine Mystery' (ft. Shezar)

A lot of fans have been asking for this one, and here it is! This is an English translation of the Brazilian Portuguese-language Masters of the Universe Story, 'The Submarine Mystery', featuring a cult-favorite villain/anti-hero among MOTU fans in Brazil - the aquatic invader, Shezar! This story was released in 1987 and comes from issue 17 of the Editora Abril comics from Brazil. The first several issues of the comic series featured rather subpar adaptations of Filmation episodes. When fans complained in correspondence to the comic letters column, Editora Abril totally changed gears and started releasing issues featuring reprints from the UK comics, Star Marvel comics, and most notably, brand NEW original stories, several of which featured artwork by the amazing Watson Portela.

The Editora Abril stories from Brazil were known for introducing some unique and interesting characters to the mix. Shezar is the most popular of the bunch, and has gained a following outside of Brazil in more recent years. She'd make for an awesome Classics figure, and there has indeed been some demand for the character to be released in MOTUC.

    Portuguese-to-English Translation: Penny Dreadful

Massive thanks to macbee and Nuno Mata for helping me to acquire both originals and scans of many Brazilian MOTU & POP comics. Muito obrigada por esses lindos quadrinhos!

Edit: I can't seem to add the rest of the pages to the next post, as it tries to merge with the first post, which is only allowed to contain 15 images.

I think somebody will have to reply first, just to break up the posts.

This is fantastic! I remember seeing Shezar in one of the MOTUC org polls several years ago and falling in love with the design. I saw pages of the original story, but can finally read the story in English now. Thank you!!!

I find it fascinating it's got the Filmation designs but is so risque. I'm guessing Filmation didn't get around to proofing these new original stories. The Brazilian comics are a lot of fun.

The art and the "perpetuating the species" thing, wow. LOL.

Shezar deserves a figure one day soon (here's the thread https://www.he-man.org/forums/boards...hezar-in-MOTUC!), but I'd also like to see all those captured 80's women too including the fisherman's daughter. Masters of the Universe Classics "Prisoners of Shezar" or "Victims of the Black Pearl" set? One can dream.

Can't wait to see what other vintage Brazilian stories get translated in English. I'm curious if any of the new characters ever reappear in future issues?

Absolutely! I went into it already knowing I want Shezar, but now I want all the captured girls too! I don't think I've ever wanted to go to Eternia more than I do after reading that comic!

But hey, if we're going to dream, let's dream really, really, ridiculously big! We could have an SDCC or Powercon exclusive where the packaging was like one of those really, really huge L.O.L. doll plastic balls and style it like the Black Pearl. Then when you open it up, you have all the kidnapped girls packaged in their cylindrical tube prisons on one side, and then have Shezar, mid-transform Shezar, and fish form with the packaging looking like a transforming effect on the other side!

That was absolutely incredible! Thanks for posting! I was not familiar with Shezar, but now I totally want a figure of her in both forms! She's awesome! And Dark Horse, please gather and collect all these incredible international comics in a hardcover. I know I am not the only one who would gladly pay good money for such a book!

    What The--? FANG MAN!??!?!

Ohhh, THANK YOU so much to everyone involved in the undertaking of translating these stories! So many of the images here are familiar to me, from various character support threads, but to at long last witness them in context is such a good feeling! {^)

Tiny plot hole, The Fisherman seems to be unaware of a Fifth Disappearance (Shezar must have snuck one past him!). It's been said before, the overt sex appeal of Shezar (and her Eternian captives) is something pretty much unheard of in American/English language He-Man adventures. It takes some getting used to...
