Well, either way, the league made up for the "non-call" in game 4 with a too-many-men penalty, plus a metric ton of other questionable calls in game 5... sheesh!

Hockey is turning into the NBA or NFL with the constant stoppage in play due to a penalty. Gone are the days when linesmen let the players play and only called a penalty when it was blatant (or, if a frustrated player was just out to hurt someone...)

Even without all of the help from the refs, the Lightning just keep playing their game... I can't imagine how intimidating it must have felt playing in game 5 in Denver being down 3 games to 1... but, they ground out another victory.

The 2022 Hockey Hall of Fame inductees will be announced tomorrow!

Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2022 could include Sedin brothers
Forwards played 17 seasons with Canucks; Luongo, Zetterberg among those eligible for first time

    https://www.nhl.com/news/hockey-hall...es/c-334720696

    MY PREDICTION

    Daniel Sedin
    Henrik Sedin
    Butch Goring
    Doug Jarvis
    Jennifer Botterill
    Herb Carnegie (Builder)
    Bryan Murray (Builder)

There are currently 7 members of the 1980s New York Islanders Stanley Cup dynasty in the Hockey Hall of Fame - general manager Bill Torrey (1995), head coach Al Arbour (1996), Mike Bossy (1991), Denis Potvin (1991), Billy Smith (1993), Bryan Trottier (1997), and Clark Gilles (2002). The recent death of Mike Bossy could get one of the four remaining players from the 1980s New York Islanders dynasty, who are highly qualified, to finally be inducted in 2022. Those players are Butch Goring, John Tonelli, Bob Nystrom, and Brent Sutter. The most qualified is Butch Goring, who along with his 4 Stanley Cup rings, also won the Bill Masterton Trophy, the Lady Byng Trophy, and the Conn Smythe Trophy. Brent Sutter also has 3 Canada Cup World Titles.

Guy Lafleur played 17 seasons in the NHL, mostly for the Montreal Canadiens, and won 5 Stanley Cup championships. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988. His recent death could get his former Montreal Canadiens teammate and 4-time Stanley Cup champion Doug Jarvis finally inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2022. Doug Jarvis won the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 1984, and the Bill Masterton Trophy in 1987. Doug Jarvis held the record as the NHL's Iron Man for 36 years, playing 964 consecutive games without injury, from October 8, 1975 to October 10, 1987. His record was recently broken during the 2021-2022 NHL season by Keith Yandle and Phil Kessel, putting him back in the spotlight just before the passing of Guy Lafleur. Doug Jarvis also won 2 more Stanley Cups as an assistant coach for the Dallas Stars in 1999, and the Boston Bruins in 2011, bringing his combined player/assistant coach total to 6. Other possibilities for induction in 2022 include the five other Montreal Canadiens players with 5+ Stanley Cup championships, who pre-date Guy Lafleur. Those players are Claude Provost (9), Jean-Guy Talbot (7), Larry Hillman (6), Ralph Backstrom (6), J.C. Tremblay (5).

Congrats to the Avs. They were the better team. They made the plays more often than the Lightning did. At the end of the day, none of the calls determined the series outcome. The Avs were clearly a better team. But the Lightning gave them a run for their money since they were outgunned and gassed.

I don't feel bad about losing to the Avs. Watching the celebration, I even smiled for some of their guys. Normally I'm pretty sour when my teams lose. Maybe I'm maturing or maybe the Avs are just a really good team that deserved it.

Some other tid-bits from the Stanley Cup Finals game 6...

Nikita Kucherov throws his gloves at the Tampa equipment manager and gives up on game before it's even over...

    https://www.markerzone.com/news/index.php?no=136768

Steven Stamkos gets angry and shoots puck at the linesman!!

    https://www.houseofhockey.net/Steven...-coming-136818

Pat Maroon slashes Josh Manson's leg breaking his stick!!

    https://www.fox8tv.com/stanley-cup-2...-seek-penalty/

It seems that Tampa did not like the walls closing in on them... they reacted poorly and very undisciplined. This was not a good look for them and they will have all summer to reflect on it - unsportsmanlike.

NOTE: Prior to the 1986–87 NHL season, while going through the team's records, someone discovered the team's original NHL contract and found that the name "Blackhawks" was printed as a compound word as opposed to two separate words, "Black Hawks", which was the way most sources had been printing it for 60 years and as the team had always officially listed it. The name officially became "Chicago Blackhawks" from that point on. This was a legal issue.

The Reasons Why The 2020-2021 NHL Divisions Format Would Never Be Made Permanent

I'm just stating the obvious here...

The 2020-2021 NHL Standings had four divisions. 8 teams in the West Division, 8 teams in the Central Division, 8 teams in the East Division, and 7 teams in the North Division, and if they brought back the Quebec Nordiques it would be 8 as well.

If the National Hockey League always used the Standings format from the 2020-2021 season, there would be one Canadian team in the semi-finals (final four) of the playoffs every year. The 2020-2021 format only guaranteed a Canadian team would make the semi-final, not the Stanley Cup final. With this format Canada's 29-year Stanley Cup drought could still continue. The only change that should be made if brought back would be to allow teams to play teams from other divisions as well, which is not what happened last season because of covid.

If the 2020-2021 NHL division format was brought back and made permanent, we would never see an all-Canadian Stanley Cup final again. There has not been an all-Canadian final anyway since 1989 (33 years). I doubt it will ever happen again because the U.S. teams are much more in number. The odds of it happening again are not good. At least with the 2020-2021 format we could get a Canadian team possibly winning the Stanley Cup once every five years, maybe more, or maybe not. The possibilities are endless. Nothing else would change. Goals will still be scored, records will still be broken, and 500+ goal-scorers will still exist. Next year will mark 30 years since the last time a Canadian franchise won the Stanley Cup. Although, not happening for a long time doesn't equate to never happening again. Canadian teams make up for 22% of the NHL. The odds may be low but they certainly exist. A permanent Canadian division would make the odds of winning the Stanley Cup 0.

Would it really give Canadian teams a better chance to win the Cup? Right now, three Canadian teams can make the semifinals. The 2020-2021 format would limit them to only one. Also, if that one team wouldn't have made the semifinals otherwise, how good would their chance of winning the Stanley Cup really be? This idea might give only the illusion of Canadian teams having a better chance when they're all bad and eventually cripple their chances when several of them are really good. Travel would be hell for the 7 Canadian franchises, forcing cross country playoff series' in different time zones.

The league shouldn’t grant semifinal spots based on gerrymandered divisions. There would be very little credibility to a league where “we want to make sure team with characteristic X makes the final four” is a factor in deciding the schedule/divisions. I don't want any pity spots. Maybe they could earn their spots instead.

NHL Teams Represented at the 2022 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony....

    Ryan Miller (4)

    Buffalo Sabres
    St. Louis Blues
    Vancouver Canucks
    Anaheim Ducks

Ryan Miller is the 27th goaltender to be inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

Jim Johannson never played in the NHL, and was never a builder in the NHL either, but he was drafted 130th overall in 1982 by the NHL's Hartford Whalers. He played for the Calgary Flames' minor league team, the Salt Lake Golden Eagles, and the Chicago Blackhawks' minor league team, the Indianapolis Ice, both in the (IHL) International Hockey League.

Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson and Monique Lamoureux-Morando are the 25th and 26th women to be inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. They are twins. This feels like a copy-cat move by the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. The NHL's twins, Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin are also being inducted in 2022, into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

Steve Cash is the first Paralympic hockey player to be inducted, 28th goaltender. (Sledge Hockey / Para Ice Hockey / Ice Sled Hockey)

The U.S. Hockey Hall Of Fame is not as hard to get into as the Hockey Hall of Fame is. The standards are a bit lower, and there is less competition since it's only for Americans, for the most part. Unlike the Hockey Hall of Fame, a person can be inducted more than once into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame, but there is a catch. The U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame also inducts all the members of a team that wins the GOLD medal in the Olympics, or the World Cup. This means the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame is more like the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. A person can be inducted as a solo artist, and they could also be inducted as a member of a band or bands. There is no limit to the number of times you can be inducted. But in the case of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame, you can only be inducted multiple times if you win GOLD, not SILVER, not BRONZE. Also, unlike the Hockey Hall of Fame, the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame doesn't brake the inductees into categories like the player category, or the builder category for coaches and team owners, or the referee category. Or at least it's not spoken about at the ceremony, or on their website.

THE U.S. HOCKEY HALL OF FAME https://www.ushockeyhalloffame.com

THE U.S HOCKEY HALL OF FAME MUSEUM https://www.ushockeyhall.com/home

All the numerical breakdowns were done by me, not by the U.S Hockey Hall of Fame.

THE U.S. HOCKEY HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES (1973-PRESENT) | EVELETH, MINNESOTA

265 PEOPLE INDUCTED INTO THE U.S. HOCKEY HALL OF FAME.

    199 INDUCTEES.

    195 INDIVIDUAL INDUCTEES.

4 TEAM INDUCTEES – 115 IS THE TOTAL NUMBER OF TEAM MEMBERS INDUCTED.

OF THE 115 TEAM MEMBERS INDUCTED, 45 OF THEM ARE TWO-TIME INDUCTEES.

70 IS THE REMAINING NUMBER OF TEAM MEMBERS INDUCTED.

    195 + 70 = 265 PEOPLE INDUCTED INTO THE U.S. HOCKEY HALL OF FAME.

NOTE: Jack O’Callahan and Eddie Olczyk are the only players in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame who played for both, the Chicago Black Hawks and the Chicago Blackhawks.

NOTE: Jack O’Callahan and Eddie Olczyk are the only players in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame who played for both, the Chicago Black Hawks and the Chicago Blackhawks.
