I had a visit from the Hospital At Home nurse, and I had my stitches out today!

I've suffered from fibromyalgia and arthritis for many years which is the root cause for a lot of my pain, there's no cure for these ailments. I'm on painkillers and antibiotics, which lessens the pain for as long as possible even though it keeps coming back. It is very frustrating and depressing, having any kind of social life except online is next to impossible and I can't do basic things like go shopping, let alone get out and about. My sister and the kittens help a lot and I usually immerse myself in music, DVD's and books, and I work from home as a freelance writer and editor. I do admittedly get lonely on top of everything else, but I try and promote myself as a social justice warrior wherever possible to try and make a difference in this world. The internet is as essential to me as food, water and shelter to name a few things.

I was hoping I was back in safe territory but another of my toes has painfully flared up again, it looks dangerously close to exploding like the last one, I don't know how much more of this I can endure. I don't want to have any more surgeries.

I try to focus on my CD's, DVD's and books as well as my sister, the kittens and my friends online and offline but I wish this nightmare was over.

I try and think of positive things like the chat with Gina Schock from The Go-Go's tomorrow morning (the one member of the band I've not yet had the pleasure to chat with), and hopefully I might not be hospitalised again (I have a podiatrist appointment on Wednesday) so I can chat with Catherine Sutherland & Nakia Burrise (Kat & Tanya) from Power Rangers on Friday, and then Gretchen Peters the weekend after.

I do have a question though -- you mentioned that your toe looks close to exploding.. I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of your medical concerns, but is that a thing that actually happens, or is it like saying something's so swollen that it looks like it'll explode?

Either way I hope your pain subsides

I'm not so very good at describing medical issues, but yes, it is extremely red, swollen, painful and prone to busting open if unchecked, that's what I meant to say. I do not want to spend Christmas in hospital.

I do try and focus on positive ideals and things I love which does help to some extent.

I saw my hospital podiatrist today, and admittedly I was terrified I would be admitted to hospital for more surgeries, but I've been placed on strong antibiotics instead this time, so hopefully they will work and end this nightmare.

The antibiotics seem to be working well, and the angry red inflammation and infection appear to be abating. My feet are still extremely painful, but at least I think I am going to be OK now. Thanks for asking though.

I have some bad news to report. Apparently my right foot has seriously flared up and requires surgery again. I don't know what else they want to take from me, but I don't know how much more of this I can handle. Part of me just wants everything to be over with one way or another. I love my sister and the kittens, and my friends, and my CD's, DVD's and books, but even they can't make me happy right now.

I know we have our differences, but in all seriousness, I am genuinely very sorry that you are going through this again. I can't even imagine what it is like to deal with all of the various health issues that you have faced. I really hope at some point something can be done where this can all get (and stay) a lot better for you and you can live more comfortably and at least a little more care free. Fingers crossed that this will be easy to treat.
