"Willow" Sequel TV Series In The Works

I absolutely LOVE Willow with Warwick Davis, Val Kilmer, Joanne Whalley, and Jean Marsh and there is soon going to be a sequel TV series in the works!

*The enchanting world of “Willow,” created by George Lucas, is officially coming to the small screen.

Disney Plus has confirmed a sequel series taking place years after the events of the original Ron Howard-directed pic is heading into production next year. Howard is returning to the project as executive producer alongside original star Warwick Davis, who will once again play the titular hero Willow Ufgood.

“Willow” the series hails from Lucasfilm and represents the company’s first non-“Star Wars” venture since 2015. The show will introduce all-new characters to the magical realm of fairy queens and two-headed Eborsisk monsters. News of the official greenlight from Disney Plus comes over a year after the project was first reported as coming down the pipeline.*

I'm really looking forward to this, Willow has always been a favorite of mine!!

Hopefully, the show will be amazing!! And although very unlikely, it'd be great if it led to some cool action figures!! I had the toys that were released originally but those were basically miniatures. I'd flip over a MOTUC style Willow, Madmartigan, Sorsha and General Kael!!

One of my all time favorite movies. Ron Howard is also one of my favorite directors so I can’t wait for this. . I feel so bad for Val Kilmer, he’s not looking so great after his health issues

I still think Val Kilmer is wonderful as an actor and a singer. We have a special connection, Val and I. He liked an article I wrote about him and his wonderful performance in Ten Commandments: The Musical and I got a friend of mine to put Val's Christmas song Christmas Is Calling on the radio. Val sent me a free copy of his album Music Sessions With Mick Rossi as a thankyou present.

Is the series going to be based on the novels from the 90s, or is Disney going a new route with this? Because Sorsha and Madmartigan don't fare very well in the books.

I would imagine Disney will pull the same crap it did with Star Wars, if George Lucas had anything to do with it, it's time to mess it all up. But you're right, the sequel trilogy of books by Lucas and Chris Claremont did not treat those two well, almost like Game of Thrones before GoT LOL

You consistently state that everything Disney puts out is amazing. I'm curious, do you work for them?

-Willow is handed his wand by some new female character who's unexplainedly a stronger wizard than he is-

    Willow: "I want to die."

-Willow throws the wand over his shoulder and proceeds to disappear into the aether like a fart in the wind-

    THE END.

There, I just spoiled what this series is going to be for everyone, lol

Thinking of Star Wars 7-9 and Solo I will have to disagree with you.

    The Mandalorian is pretty good.
Yes, because Kathleen Kennedy had little input - it was made by true fans and it shows. She should be fired, and there are rumours swirling that it's just a matter of time.

I would also say that Rogue One was very good. It was much better than the main movies.

Rogue One was the best of the Disney movies. It was quite good.

Not sure how to feel about this.

I absolutely loved Willow. But I think it was really the characters that elevated it. The new characters/actors have very big shoes to fill.

Not sure that John M. Chu is the right guy for this, but I'm willing to give him a chance.

Was shocked to find out Warwick Davis is only 50. I would've guessed 15-20 years older...

No, but I am a major Disney fan and I've loved everything Disney for as long as I can remember, when I'm a fan of someone or something, my devotion is absolute, that's just the way I am.

Willow has always been one of my favourites. Very much looking forward to this. Would have preferred Howard back in the director's chair, but Jon Chu has excelled lately, so I'll give him a chance.

Not his biggest fan either but hopefully he proves us wrong.
Warwick Davis was only 18 when Willow came out, I forgot how young he was

    Meh.

I like Willow, don't get me wrong. It's an excellent movie, and that is part of the problem with this idea. For the life if me I really don't see any place else to move on to. Bagmorda was defeated, Mad Madigan hooked up with Sorcia. Willow came home to Kya and his kids and, presumably, began his training as an apprentice wizard. And Allora Danon was delivered into the care of a King and Queen to raise her as a princess.

What else is there to do in a sequel? Its not like Willow was big on traveling, he just wanted to help Allora. And if he's not really taking a part in the series, can you really call it Willow?

I might give it a look see, just to see what's going up, but this sounds more of an "In Name Only" type of show.
I am Imp's number one fan.

i will hold my judgement on this. i went to see willow at our local cinema shortly before it closed back in the 80s. i really enjoyed the dark crystal prequel, more so than i thought i would. so when willow is released i will give the original movie a rewatch and then watch the series. but like other people i don't really see what they can add. but we will see...
