The first two episodes have dropped so far... I'm curious what people are thinking of the show.

After watching these, it certainly is not what I was expecting from a continuation of Willow.

It's not bad, just not what my mind always had as what happened after Willow returned to the Nelwyn valley at the end of the movie.

This show is apparently getting roasted online by fans of the original movie...

    Ah the usual
‘we wish we’d get a sequel to *insert franchise*, that’d be so cool’
    Here you go.
‘No not like that, you’ve ruined it, you should get the fans to write it’
    Type of fans?

    Can’t please everyone I suppose.

I've seen several scenes of the Willow series (and Lord Of The Rings: Rings Of Power) and I've loved what I've seen so far. I'm looking forward to both series.

I haven't seen it yet, I generally wait to get the discs for this stuff. But a LOT of my friends are pretty furious about it; the usual "I couldn't get past the second episode" stuff. I'm sure you can guess why; if not, it rhymes with "Thespian Main Characters" and that pesky W-word.

I mean, I get it; sure, a lot of genuine "I just didn't have THIS in my 'Willow Headcanon' is all!" sentiment may well exist, but like so many other things these days it's just one more shot in the Culture War. And that is becoming very tiresome. "They need to STOP putting this junk into EVERY movie and TV show anymore, it's ridiculous!" Well... they're not gonna stop. So whatever, already. I wish these people would find new windmills to tilt at; crying about the "Woke Boogeyman" is SO damn 2020, already.

I am heartily sick and tired of the the anti-woke bunch having to add their bigoted thoughts to everything. It is tiresome and irritating.

I mean, it's their quarter if they wanna complain, and occasionally I agree with a point here or there depending on which movie/show/game it is that's being discussed.

But for me by now it's like listening to people whine about how "The Simpsons has been awful since 1997!" Even if I agree to a point, I'm SO sick of hearing about it that the complaints about the content now offend me MORE than the content does. I hate New Simpsons, too, therefore, I hardly ever see it anymore. Problem solved. If someone ASKS me my opinion on the recent stuff I'll give it, but I don't go around constantly shouting my unsolicited opinion on how awful it is from every corner of the internet like some kind of lunatic. That just comes off to me as someone desperately seeking validation, and they get there quickly by aligning hard with an opinion that comes with a loud, built-in echo chamber.

Same thing here. It doesn't take any thought, wit, or courage to rant about "All teh gheys in muh TV and movies now!" since people have been crying about it for a long time. And if you say you're mad about it, you know you'll get a ton of support immediately (even if it's from people you shouldn't brag about having your back).

I've been telling people all the time lately, they need to just quit watching TV altogether if "too many gays" is an honest-to-God crusade for them. It ain't changing no matter how much they cry about it. But they insist to me that it's important to "Let them know we won't stand for this stuff!" and "Demand they give our beloved 80s/90s properties back to us!" Like, it's SERIOUS, to these people. You wouldn't BELIEVE how many people tell me, with full sincerity, "Movies and TV were my whole life, and now I can't even watch anything anymore!" As if that were a Serious Life Problem and not the very definition of First-World BS.

Like even the IDEA of just, I'unno, NOT watching shows or movies if they're gonna be miserable about what's in them... they insist that's unfathomable. "I shouldn't have to stop watching! They should just stop ruining stuff!" I tell them what I do - ignore most new stuff and just watch older stuff - they tell me I'm crazy. As if whining constantly on message boards about "agendas" and "social reprogramming" is healthier than ignoring it all and reading a book instead. Good grief.

It's like all the people getting their undies in a bunch over LGBTQ-inclusivity in Hallmark movies. I am all in favour of it personally.

I mean if more "traditional"-minded people don't want to watch That or This, nobody's forcing them to. But I don't know what they think crying about it online is gonna do, especially if they already planned to not watch it; they "sent a message" and "voted with their dollars" by not watching, that should be enough. Or if you're disappointed or disapproving, say it once or twice and move on with your life. There's a few yards between "Expressing One's Opinion" and "Beating The Horse To Glue" and lots of people online seem to not understand the difference.

I absolutely agree with this, I do not understand the need to bash constantly and overdo the whole negativity thing. When I don't like something, I just leave it alone.

Full disclosure: I was never a fan of the movie. I didn't hate it, but I only saw it once and that was enough for me. My wife, however, is a big fan and we've watched all the episodes released so far. To put it bluntly, we both agree that the writing is terrible. Some of the actors are doing the best they can with the material given, but it's not enough. She's torn on whether she wants to keep watching, in the hope that it will improve, but fears that too many narrative holes have been dug.

I will honestly admit I am among the group that gave up early on this show. And yes, it was solely because of the relationship between two of the characters. This, despite the fact that I have enjoyed other shows with similar relationships within their stories. I am not opposed to it in general.

Here though, it appears to be central to the story, introducing it so early and heavy-handedly. And if that is the case, IÂ’m simply not interested. It comes across as a signal to me that the show was not written with someone like me in mind. And that is fine with me. ItÂ’s all good.

I honestly don’t really notice it, it was like one kiss there really hasn’t been anything beyond what you would see with a close female friendship. The show is fine so far, but I agree there are some questionable choices made in the writing.

My gripes have nothing to do with any of that stuff...

I was just upset at the pacing, really... in the first two episodes there are so many slooooooow, uneventful, and needless scenes stuffed in for the run time.

I also don't like how some of the characters from the film are made out to be so different from the ones we fell in love with all those years ago. Some are just plain acting out of character...

...oh, and the end credits music is AWFUL!!! Very UN-Willow like...

As a fan of Willow since i saw the movie 2 times in theaters at 7 as it's one of my fave fantasy movies since, the new show is an insult to the legacy of the movie.

They made Willow Urfgood who was a loveable likable Nelwyn into no one with no redemption plus gets humiliated and the new 2 bland new characters who are badly written with no charisma/no personality said "He's not a great sorcererer" and having Mad Martigan said he was a loser as he abandoned his family and took off.

OOOOH it made me as a fan of Willow SOOOO MAD! I'm sure other fans are p issed off at this deconstruction crap too, screw this show and screw Kathleen Kennedy, i'm very glad she's leaving next year as Lucasfilm and glad this show is flopping as even some fans dislike the show too. It's got Last Jedi syndrome all over it, to me the books were the real sequel to Willow.

I just watched the first 3 episodes and it's pretty bad. The concept of a Willow series is great and something I always wanted but this is just a complete fail. The acting, directing, and writing are all bad. It's not downright garbage but this show doesn't have the magic that the movie had. It's horrible that the supposed main character that the show is named after, Willow, really isn't the main character at all. The original characters just seem so out of character. It feels like this was written by someone who never watched the original movie.

The funny thing about the Willow series is that it has a character named Scorpia in it.

I finally had time to watch the first 5 episodes and I agree with some that the pacing of the first couple episodes was really slow and the writing was subpar. It seemed like it took forever to get through those first 2 and a half episodes.

That said, while there's definitely room for improvement, the last 2 and a half episodes were much more enjoyable and interesting to me and I'm looking forward to seeing what's next. As far as the relationship people are talking about, it doesn't feel forced into the story and it doesn't distract from the main story at all. I feel it's actually turned into one of the more genuine and interesting parts of the series.

Other than the pacing/writing issues, my only real gripes with this series are the fact that a lot of the cast seems a bit too young and I feel like most of the villains are very bland and generic. The bird-lady has some potential but the rest were really forgettable. Bavmorda and Kael's designs, while simplistic and traditional are still very cool and menacing. I'd definitely like to see more villains like that.

Yes it was insulting they said "Willow is not a great sorcerer" and "Mad Maritgan is a loser".

I agree, it was written by someone who was never a fan of the original and this is insulting to fans like me as i wanted to throw something at the TV.

What's up with wanting to deconstruct beloved cinematic legacy heroes to losers with no lives/redemption like Willow, Luke Skywalker, Bill and Ted in Bill and Ted 3, Dewey in Scream 5 etc.? Be glad Top Gun Maverick, Christmas Story Christmas, Blade Runner 2049, and Cobra Kai didn't put own or deconstruct Daniel Larusso, Maverick, Ralphie Parker and Rick Deckard into losers but were respected and given redemption.

Since this show is flopping and Top Gun Maverick with Christmas Story Christmas were successful, the big success of those 2 movies at the box office and HBO Max should do a new trend of treating beloved legacy characters with love/honor/respect/redemption and put an end to this awful trend of deconstructing beloved legacy characters into losers (ala Last Jedi, this, Bill and Ted's Face the Music and Scream 5 and i have a feeling Indiana Jones 5 is gonna do this) to DIE FOR GOOD

My favourite character was always Sorsha and I love her in the movie and series.

So Disney canceled the series. I never watched it but it seems a lot of people didn't like it.
