1985 Masters of the Universe Create A Character Contest

First, let me say that I knowingly entered the 1985 Masters of the Universe Create a Character Contest when I was 11 years old. At the time, I vividly recall drawing and submitting a character design that was very similar, if not, identical to a popular MOTU character that appeared on television and the toy line a year after the contest ended. The character I designed was that of a snake man who's tongue could extend and wrap around it's prey. The character I am am referring to is named Tung Lashor. I felt compelled to post this as some years ago a member of this site relayed a story very similar to what occurred to me many years ago. That individual stated he had submitted a design very similar to a character that appeared after the contest ended. That individual stated he submitted a design very similar to the MOTU character named Mosquitor. It's been bothering me for many years and I just had to get it off my chest. To this day, I still remain a fan of MOTU and have not allowed my experience to sour my love for the franchise. Sincerely, Luis Torres, Jr.

Just so you know, Ted Mayer's Tung Lashor concept art dates to July 12, 1984.

However, his concept art doesn't really look like the final product. I don't know who was responsible for the final look of the toy or when that was designed.

Thank you for providing the links to this information. First things first, I never claimed to be the creator of ‘Tung Lashor’. My claim is that I submitted a character design that closely matched, if not, resembled Mattel’s ‘Tung Lashor’. The possibility still exists that the character design that I submitted of a snake man who’s special ability is to extend its tongue to capture its prey could have influenced Mattel to alter Ted Mayer’s initial character design. That is, of course, if his character design really was created in 1984. Second thing, I know of two other individuals who also entered the He-Man Create a Character contest and found it very oddly coincidental that Mattel issued two toys a year after the contest ended that matched, if not closely, resembled their ideas as well. One of the character designs was for ‘Mosquitor’ and the other was for ‘Spikor’. Now that makes three contest entrants who shared identical experiences. Coincidence? Maybe, but I believe it’s highly unlikely.
