Super7 SilverHawks Figures - CONFIRMED

I can't see why there would be. I don't believe there has been an issue in the past, and the word "quicksilver" dates back centuries before the Marvel character appeared.

DC changed their Quicksilver's name to "Max Mercury" to get around issues with Marvel. I know Mattel had issues with several other DC characters doing DC Universe Classics. "Metamorpho" was trademarked for The Outer Space Men during the time, "Obsidian" was trademarked to Hasbro for a Transformer, "Mary Marvel" was released a "Mary Batson". They had the same issues with MOTUC with Flipshot, Double Trouble and Strong Arm. Marvel has issues with some of their characters, too, with Hasbro marking them as "Marvel's Ares", "Marvel's Scarecrow", etc.

So technically Marvel has already published Silverhawks comics. I thought they were all under the "Star Comics" label which was Marvel but Marvel themselves published a couple of the issues.

So if they identified the character as Quicksilver back then, I'd assume they'd have no reason to dispute him being called that now.

That's actually a pretty good point.... all these licensing and rights issues are all so confusing. I'm sure Brian and Super 7 have this sorted out, I can't imagine them doing this and NOT being able to put out the main character (Commander) under his original name. I guess I'd even be okay if they put a small prefix before his name ("Cmdr"), but I just don't see it happening. I think we're good.

That may come down to trademark as well, which can be a complicated pain in and of itself. Hence the DC/Hasbro legal case over the trademark of Bumblebee.

In fact, the network ordered episodes of Silverhawks before the very first episode of Thundercats even aired, it just took them time to create the first few episodes while they concentrated on the T-Cats launch.

So, I guess anytime you hear anyone say that Silverhawks was just a Thundercats rip-off, you can tell them this fun fact and say it's impossible.

I have a decent collection of vintage Silverhawks figures. Not all of them, but most of the major characters. I was lucky enough to find many of them, even with their wings and some of their birds, for dirt cheap at thrift shops and flea markets back in the mid - late '90's.

I'm content with my vintage figures and don't feel the need for new figures. But I'm happy for everyone else excited about these.

Funny enough, the announcement of the new figures has prompted me to hit ebay and grab some of the old figures. I want them loose (carded is unimportant to me) but finding them in good condition for a decent price is VERY hard to do. I do feel that the announcement of the new line has started to drive prices up even more, completely crazy prices. But they are just SO cool with that vac metal, they're hard to resist!

Not really. Jules Bass came up with the concept while production on Thundercats had already started in late 1984.
Ted Wolf created Thundercats in 1983 and Rankin Bass started developing it in early 1984.

Like Super Powers, those vintage Silverhawks figures still look great even by today's standards. I have a bunch of them displayed and they look so sharp. Sold Quicksilver off a few years back, because he was in great shape and I got a nice deal from it. I have the toothbrush holder and that works well enough as a figural representation of the character for me so haven't tried to find another vintage Quicksilver.

So... this is great news. A favorite property of mine being revived after 35 years without any type of tie-in is always a win.

But, this is a line of characters who have WILDLY different body types/structures... the only characters who could benefit from a MOTUC buck are Steelwill and Mon-Star.

I really, read: really hope that Super 7 doesn't half-bake this line. It requires unique tooling throughout. (Just think about all of the protagonists... they are very abnormal in comparison to a "human" body type...)

And if they pull a stunt with the Silverhawks wings like they did with the Sorceress's??? Oh! There will be war!

I 100% guarantee they will be in the same style as motu and thunder cats so they all “fit into the same ultimate family”.

Just like tcats and tmnt, I assume they won’t have issues with unique tooling for the villains.

I'm guessing more than likely they will have varying body types for the characters as needed.

The Ultimates Shredder figure, while still being in this collective Ultimates/MOTUC scale, does not have the same bulky, muscular body as most MOTUC figures or characters like Lion-O, Panthro, etc.

I'm in agreement with this. Copper Kid is smaller than Quicksilver, so that right there would warrant varying body types. I may be speaking to soon, but I'm gonna trust Super 7 on this one to do it right. Yes, there will be nitpicks, but overall I think they'll make good choices for the line. Here's hoping, anyway.

The Ultimates Shredder figure, while still being in this collective Ultimates/MOTUC scale, does not have the same bulky, muscular body as most MOTUC figures or characters like Lion-O, Panthro, etc

Maybe steelwill will be on the standard classics body while bluegrass and quicksilver will be on thinner bodies like shredder and some of the wrestling figures.

I’d love to check that out sometime. Very hard to find official material on the property, even online. Odd to me... I feel, somehow, there are more fans of these characters than is realized, it just always took a back seat to Thundercats it seems. Just glad it’s finally getting some love after 30+ years.

I didn't grow up watching the show and didn't even know about it until I was 17. A few years ago I watched several episodes of the showw but wasn't keen on it, it seemed to be a mess of too many different ideas. Quicksilver and some of the villains had some pretty interesting designs. Maybe one day I will try and watch some more of the show.

I’d say the Silverhawks series suffers from some of the same weird voice acting issues that Thundercats had at times, although maybe a bit more. I just picked up the second volume of the DVD’s and have been watching some episodes. I’ve been enjoying it, really... I think if you consider the time period it was released in and give it a break, it can be enjoyable for what it is. The concept and the characters are just very appealing to me and I loved the toys as a kid. So, yeah, maybe you had to have found it early in childhood to have that connection to it. I can see why people think the show is so bad, though. Nonetheless, I love it. 😃

Closest thing I had to anything Silverhawks was the Batjet that was a repaint/remould of the Sprinthawk toy.
The Marvel character Darkhawk reminds me of a Silverhawk. They made pretty cool Marvel Legends figure of Darkhawk two or three years ago.

So I get that it's becoming near impossible to do vac metal cost effectively on action figures every year, but are Super7 at least going to chrome these? SilverHawks without a metallized finish are not Silverhawks, and I don't see fans willing to shell out $50 a figure for shiny paint. They kinda had one gimmick: look like polished chrome.

This was addressed in a recent interview. The issue with vac metal isn't the cost. It is that on highly articulated figures, it tends to get damaged / flake off easily when there is rubbing at the joints, etc. So they are going with the shiniest paint that they can.

The villains are the real stars of Silverhawks. Unlike Thundercats where the heroes were all pretty unique, the Silverhawks were all kinda the same in look and in powers. Silverhawks though IMO had a better villain cast. There was just so many neat designs for the villains.

Yup. I, admittedly, love the vac metal look as well and wish it was going to be repeated on the new line. I get that it’s not a viable option, however (perhaps ReAction will get the treatment?). I will be interested to see what they come up with though..... I trust they’ll get the shiniest metal look possible. Doesn’t stop me from waxing nostalgic for that lustrous vac metal though.
