    Custom MOTUC Tyrantisaurus

Debuted my custom MOTUC Tyrantisaurus a few days ago at the MOTUC Fans FB group, inspired by an amazing one posted a few years back. Customizer Eric Zertuche gave me pointers & encouragement along the way. With all steps including primer, base coats, rotary & jig saw, clay sculpting, epoxy, top coats, touch ups, & sealant, it took me one week of spare time to execute after obtaining supplies. Iíll try posting some progress pics from along the way. The side mount is magnetic & I plan to make alternate cannons in the near future - recently acquired an original to serve as a 3D guide. Iím planning a custom Bionatops next.

Dude as I said on Instagram and face book, this is a master piece totally congruent to the vintage toy. So well done I hope mine comes out half as decent. The only pointer on my end would be that those mech parts on I could have some metallic paint job to them, I know the vintage was all purple but I doubt that was done on purpose, it was done out of them running out of money or something like that, allow this to shine like it should, give it that extra magic, let be what it is supposed to be. Great job on this

That is amazing. I think painting the "metal" parts purple was the right move.

This guy made Tyrantisaurus on accident. LOL.

Thanks! I went back & forth on whether to go metallic on the ďmetalĒ pieces, even added a metallic silver paint into the paint blend for those parts, but it didnít really come through like I imagined.

I learned a bunch from this attempt. The air drying clay was a time challenge to finish sculpting before it turned too hard/dry/flaky to work with and I think sanding those pieces would have given a smoother look. I started sanding a test area and wasnít prepared to deal with the amount of dust it was creating, so I skipped it and moved on.

Iím guessing that monster creation video had at least subconscious influence by the vintage Tyrantisaurus. The paint scheme seems too close for an accident. Neat 3D printing project

Thanks! So many choices during the execution; overall I tried to stay closer to the vintage toy as my inspiration from a few years back actually went full metallic on those pieces, adding different colors too.

that's sooo good. I want one...

So does the DAS Air Dry clay stick to the plastic on its own, or are you using an adhesive?

It mostly sticks to the plastic on its own. In a few cases, Iíve had to epoxy glue some areas back on that worked themselves loose.

Ok good to hear. I bought a 3d printed Sorceress bust that I want to change. I've been using DAS air dry clay on a massive Castle Grayskull build, but have yet to apply it to any plastic surfaces.

I can't get over how good these are. You even made all the characters in the artwork. Did you do/are you going to do Turbodactyl? I didn't see him but maybe I missed it.

I’ve started the Turbodactyl character study & found some base options, still hunting the perfect starting point for size & articulation. I quickly stuck some turbo engines on the wings of a smaller one for some group dino pics on the Bionotops forum post.

Some I’ve found, but haven’t pulled the trigger (some are way too expensive to destroy while making a custom):

I had no idea those were so expensive. I don't blame you for shopping around.
