FYI: The timestamps in my previous post are no longer accurate. They are now earlier in Kevin's video because a chunk of the video at the beginning (where nobody was talking) was deleted.

Start at around 16:40 for the discussion on the Dark Horse comics and Orlax.

Before the Swastika was used by the Nazi's it was a hindu symbol for the sun, prosperity and good luck. The Nazi's hijacked it, reversed it, and embellished it with meaning that would forever tarnish its original use. Symbols carry a huge amount of weight. Where as the iron cross may not mean much to you, it does to the millions of people who died under nazi occupation. Please remember that your love of a cartoon/ action figure and the nostalgia you and I apply to that symbol may not take into consideration the very real pain these symbols carry with them despite their use outside of the context of national socialism.

Despite all of the "PC gone mad!' gang - it seems the other side of the coin, 'lib' detractors seem to get very upset about things that in the grand scheme of things pale in comparison to the suffering that so called 'libs" are upset about.
Why was it not a problem when MOTU was released in 1981?

Because the PC police wasn't a thing, and people didn't get outraged when they didn't get their way...

Yeah political correctness running amuck as always.

The cross used by He-Man predates the Templars by thousands of years. It has Sumerian origins or perhaps even older going back to the Halafian culture.

The cross is even paired with some kind of harness in Sumerian imagery. I have brought this up before MOTU borrows from a lot of ancient myths and is a much deeper IP than people realize.

That I did not know. It's cool seeing that people in comics can provide art for films...

And we all know of another symbol that was taken and used for other purposes, thus tarnishing it to never be used again...

Here is an update on the drawing that Art Adams is working on:

Of course, it might not actually be Orko.

    Found a pic on FB.

Possibly a preview image from the prequel comic?

Maybe after He-Man and the heroes encounter the pink tentacled Orlax?

    A bit hard to tell.

But because that notion has been in earlier comics by DC, I see where you are coming from...

This is absolutely awesome! I can't wait for the comic and the animated series!

The problem is that this "one size fits all" attitude that somehow progressives are trying to ruin everything is wrong. What progressives do is represent minorities, so that they get representation. You may not align with the LGBTQ+ community, or be part of an ethnic minority, or be the descendents of people murdered by nazis. but they do exist, and being more considerate of those people is not "PC gone mad." Its actually just acknowledging that your lived experience is not the only lived experience, and that other people exist too. The iron cross may have existed for thousands of years, but, like the swastika, it was perverted into something else, and you cannot ignore that because it was on your favourite toy. I imagine a lot of people were against using the iron cross in the 80's - but as we've found out, a lot of the decisions mattel made then may not ring true today. The origins line does show the iron cross. I imagine there is division in the ranks over whether to use it or not!

The cross debate seems to be taking over this thread. If you wish to continue to debate it, please do so in the previously created thread below (and remember to not get too political or religious in it or the discussion will need to be done in the Tar Swamp forum). Thanks.

I do like the small changes to the character designs. Teela looks great!

Nice find! I does have a bit different feel than the DC Comics. It looks kinda... Dark Horse. More black, and not as much computer rendering on top of the drawing! I’m down with that.

It’s amazing how important that hairstyle is for Teela. I’m very happy about that. Her costume looks different, but it does have her signature colors, and the hairdo sells it!

Even if they change it later on, the beginning is important.

Orko in the first panel in the preview looks like the Orko from Francis Manapuls variant cover from the 2002 mini series comic...

    Thanks.

I picked one up on Saturday. Surprised to see it on the cover but I shouldn't be. It makes sense. I didn't post it because I thought it was common knowledge. Buzzer sound. I was wrong.
