Hopefully, Revelation gets a Blu-Ray release and the discs aren't in paper sleeves like some of Mill Creek's past releases.

Awesome! I'll take DVD, but would love Blu-Ray. I'm not sure how goods the odds are of that, but being that this is Mill Creek, I would say they are at least decent. They've put a lot of old TV shows out on Blu-Ray that were only ever released on DVD from previous distributors.

I also hope they don't go too cheap on the packaging like they have sometimes in the past. But if they do, I'll just throw the discs in another case with custom printed artwork if need be.

Agreed although a Blu-ray set for all the series would be ideal.

Oh, how I would love a set of MOTUR, MOTUCGI, and SPOP with the same love and attention that the BCI Eclipse sets got.

Well, as cool as that would be, this IS Mill Creek, so it is best to keep expectations in check. Their releases tend to be pretty bare bones and often just contain the movie/TV show itself. If there are any bonus features, it will most likely be things that are supplied to them and not anything they go out of their way to create and put together.

Fair, I not expecting them to make an SPOP set anyway but if they do might as well release 200X while they're at it

Well, SPOP getting a release would simply depend upon them getting a license to release it. But with that being a Dreamworks production (if I am not mistaken), it is dependent upon Dreamworks' willingness to license it out to another distributor if they do not intended to release the final two seasons on DVD or any of it on Blu-Ray.

The likelyhood of a 200X reissue depends on a few factors. It already had two previous DVD releases. The first was from BCI Eclipse, the company that also originally released the Filmation He-Man and She-Ra series and New Adventures on DVD. But it was technically a separate license for them. The Filmation shows and NA were licensed as a packaging from the then-owners of those series, which was a company called Entertainment Rights if memory serves (they are now owned by Dreamworks). But at the time, I believe Mattel actually owned the 200X series, and that is who it had to be licensed from. At least that is what I seem to recall BCI_Guy saying back when it was first coming out (he is a forum member here who at the time of those releases worked for BCI and was involved with them). I'm going on memory from years ago, so I could be mistaken.

Then after that license had lapsed, Mill Creek picked it up and released the series again. So that IMO becomes the catch-22 of this situation. 200X is a great show IMO, but as it is lesser known in general than the Filmation shows, and since Mill Creek already had the license at one point and put out a DVD set, I'm not sure if they would see value in picking up that license again. I would be more than happy to be wrong about that.

It would be great for those who never bought the previous DVDs (I have both the BCI and Mill Creek releases already), and Mill Creek in particular seems to be more open to releasing shows that they get the rights to on Blu-Ray so long as the masters that they receive are HD to begin with (they don't do any remastering themselves). Which the masters should be in HD from what I recall. While at the time the series was on TV, it was before most people had HDTVs and it aired in 4:3 aspect ratio, the show was made for 16:9 (which is how it was formatted on the previous DVD releases) and was able to be released on HD. When BCI was releases their DVDs, I recall BCI_Guy saying how great the show looks in HD (he had access to the master copies from which the DVDs were made), and at one point BCI was kicking around the idea of a Blu-Ray release. However it never came to be. At the time, it was pretty early on the Blu-Ray format's life, so it would have been more expensive to release on the format then than it is now, and fewer people had adopted it at that point. BCI also went out of business not all that long after, so that certainly didn't help much.

Having said all that, the one silver lining is that with these two new Netflix shows, there is a lot of buzz around the property again. So if there was ever a time for some company (be it Mill Creek or another one entirely) to license the 200X show and release it again, this would be it.

Right I forgot about Dreamworks assume this would mean the Flimation series and NA would require a license as well right? Not that Flimation really needs one like 200X but they could release a set with the proper aspect ratio. Anyway If they release 200X it could be amazing.

Hmm...wonder if it'll be bare bones as it pertains to extras? The only Netflix show I have on DVD is Jessica Jones and that has nothing.

Mill Creek will likely only include DVD extras if it is something already done that they don't have to produce. All but one documentary was ported in from the BCI sets for the big MOTU anniversary set. Perhaps, they could include some of the youtube writer commentaries or the part 1 documentary on Netflix, but I wouldn't expect much since they are a budget company. They are still around unlike a lot of home video companies because they keep costs low.

problem with Mill Creek on the topic of 200x…. They did not put any effort really. Maybe 30th anniversary release.

but Mill Creek 200x DVDs have
    totally wrong season 2 intro
wrong end/beginning audio with Rise of Snake Men wraparounds

it was BCI that made all effort. Making documentaries. Audio commentaries. Art cards. Hell. THEY LOOKED UP THE CORRECT SEASON 2 intro.
And they at first were gonna have 5.1 sound, though that sadly did not happen. Some oversight, it was never fully looked into.
So theirs a blu-Ray release would’ve been heaven.

OK, yes. But I also wish Netflix would just get the 2002 series. I wonder if there is a licensing issue, but it would make sense to have the MYP show on Netflix to have more MotU content on that streaming service. Also, I'd love to stream MYP MotU whenever I want.

Yes, I agree with all of this.

That was a big issue with the Mill Creek release.

I am glad that I have both releases, though. The first volume of the BCI releases had that authoring problem where a lot of things (particularly anything that was read in color) had VERY jagged looking lines. This was not an issue for the second and third volumes.

So I prefer to watch the Mill Creek release for the first 13 episodes, then the BCI ones for most of the rest.

The one gray area for me is Rise of the Snakemen Part 1. When I watched it when it originally aired, I found it jarring for the new intro with the Snakemen, He-Man in the snake armor, (and the other Masters in their anti-snake themed looks) etc. to be used when none of those changes had happened in the show yet. I felt that they should have used the previous intro for Part 1, and then introduced the new intro in Part 2.

While not a huge deal, especially since I've already seen the episodes, I almost prefer to watch the Mill Creek version of Part 1 for this reason and then shift back to BCI for Part 2 through the end of the series.

Honestly I'm concerned that any future release of the show (regardless of distributor) would have the wrong intro for the Snakemen episodes. The fact that BCI had to go out of their way to put that intro back in, and Mill Creek (who basically just releases the content as the receive it) having the wrong intro there seems to indicate that after the series got canceled, they just decided to package the episodes with the Season 1 intro for consistency, and that is the default master copies that they are providing. Unless this is released through a distributor that really cares about these details, then there's a good chance the same issues from the Mill Creek release would remain.

Okay, this makes me extremely happy. I am personally a big fan of physical media and I love having the films or the shows that I love up on the shelf. I had a fear that this might go the way of The Mandalorian or Daredevil: Season 3, etc... where you'll always have to maintain a subscription to revisit it.

Dreamworks is owned by Universal if I am not mistaken. And Universal is distributing the current Filmation He-Man and She-Ra DVD sets. It does suck that the He-Man set has the aspect ratio issue on some of the discs that I mentioned previously in another thread, and I wish they would fix that and offer corrected discs. But whether they do or don't opt to fix that, they aren't going to license the shows out to another distributor when they already have DVD sets currently on the market.

I believe they own NA as well. While the ownership of the cartoon rights have changed hands over the years, I believe Filmation He-Man and New Adventures were sold as a packaging together and have not been split up. So it would be on Dreamworks/Universal to either release a new DVD set or license it out to another distributor. The issue is whether or not they (and/or another distributor) see value in doing so.

NA by far has typically been by far the least popular cartoon series to come out of the overall He-Man/She-Ra brands. It got the full series release (split across two volumes) from BCI. The only other release at all (at least in the USA, I'm not sure about other countries) was when Mill Creek released their 30th anniversary MOTU set in 2012 when they held the licenses. It included the complete series of Filmation He-Man, the complete series of 200X, and a couple of discs with the "best of" NA.

Mill Creek never even released those "Best of NA" discs on their own. And during the time with the license, in addition to the complete season/series sets of Filmation and 200X He-Man, they released several random volumes for both series... many of which were just literally a single disc from the season/series sets relabeled as some kind of random volume, best of, or whatever (meaning the actual on disc content, including menus, etc. was 100% identical). But they never bothered doing anything like that with NA... again, not even releasing the Best of NA discs from the 30th anniversary set that they had already authored on their own in a separate DVD case.

To be clear, I am not rooting against a re-release of NA. I think it would be great if it got one. But I don't think any studio or distributor is really clamoring to release them. And I doubt that most distributors who license content from other studios are really going to jump at the opportunity to license NA only, and not the Filmation shows.

I could be wrong, and maybe it will happen. It will be great for those who don't have the previous sets already. I would probably buy it again since I've bought most of the major releases/re-releases of Filmation He-Man & She-Ra, and 200X. I'm just not holding my breath on it happening.

I assume Universal/DreamWorks owns the NA series because they have uploaded episodes to the MOTU YouTube channel and it's currently streaming on Peacock.
