Yikes, I missed out on everything. Today was a weird day and my routine was so off, I totally forgot about the sale. What kind of fan am I?!

I’m so glad Sun-Man will come on regular card, I love him. 2nd chance.
I’m totally down with more KO figures in Origins.

As for Tri-Klops, well, I know others felt more strongly about the MC look.
I hope they all got him!

It would be great if all the Sun-Man characters get released. There were only what, 10 of them in total?

I do agree that based on that rationale, seeing those other brands brought in would be unlikely.

Selfishly, though, if it were being done for "Here's Something That'd Just Be Cool To Do, Period" reasons and not just checklist reasons, and they WERE inclined to bring those other lines in? Oh, man, I'd love it... so long as it meant we ALSO got those characters and not "we got those characters INSTEAD of This or That MOTU character". I wouldn't like it if Extendar lost his spot in the line to like Baltard or whoever. Y'know what I mean?

I used to see a bunch of those knock-offs/bootlegs as a kid and never cared about "fake" He-Man toys. NOW I look at 'em and realize I could've had twice as many action figures having grand adventures in my living room... more allies for He-Man... more underlings for Skeletor... more characters who could be shaped by my own imagination rather than what the comics and cartoons told me these characters were like...

Instead I was hung up on "boring" character designs and the lack of a spring-loaded waist, and thinking more about that nonsense rather than "Hey... these would go great with my He-Man guys!", which one would think would be more important to a 5-year old. I'd love to have some Warlord and Galaxy Warriors figures now, if only I had the money for 'em. What a stupid little kid I was, sometimes.

Even stranger was that I had a few of the knock-off wrestling figures that Sungold and Madison made back in the day, and I loved them more than the "real" wrestling figures LJN made because the knock-offs had articulation and were "just like my He-Man guys". Stranger still, I never actually mixed those figures in with my He-Man guys because even though they looked similar they were from different lines, and I guess I couldn't yet figure out why He-Man would hang out with pro wrestlers.

8-year old me was a lot sharper than 5-year old me. I think even 7-year old me would groan at some of these boneheaded decisions.
Some vintage characters will need to be dangled out behind "new" characters because Mattel risks losing collector interest in the line if they complete a vintage roster. They need there to be that missing figure you're still looking for while they hit you with variants and new characters.

McFarlane has said his license is limited to 6" to 12" figures so a 5.5" license might be doable.

Mattel Creation minions email me at 10:34 am CDT that Sun Man and friends are going to be on sale. When? I don’t know.

I get to read the email at approx. 1:00 pm.

Everything listed in the email is sold out.

Again, thanks for nothing, Mattel Creations. I meant to unsubscribe after being cheated out of Masterverse Scareglow in the summer (yes, -cheated-).

Nothing made by Mattel Creations or for Power Con are relevant anyway. They are simply too rare to be considered part of any line. They are more prototype or proof-of-concept pieces. Oddities. Deliberately shorted-ran money grabbers.

    Mattel should be ashamed.
Ummm...OK. They are called exclusives. That's definitely YOUR opinion.

It's admirable to base one's fathering skills on Dr. Cliff. Just so long as one doesn't base their "husbandry" skills on those of Bill Cosby himself.

Whatever it takes to keep this line going until I'm in my 50s and my house is literally built of my discarded Origins figure packaging. Do the Sun-Man stuff. Do Galaxy Warriors. Do a wave that's four different-colored Orkos, I don't care. Just let it ride!

I doubt we will see Warlord in McFarlanes Batma... DC Multiverse line. That series is very centered around Batman and ego (Metal, Death Metal, and Last Knight on Earth. Books that former Spawn artist Greg Capullo has drawn). I've seen lots of people complain about it being another Batman line of figures, and it's my gripe too. I would buy a McFarlane Warlord if they made one...

Yeah, I honestly haven't been incredibly impressed with the McFarlane line for that reason. I love Batman but seriously, for 20+ years every DC line has been "Batman and Pals". The old "DC Super-Heroes" line even started as a Batman line before it became a Batman/Superman line, and then eventually morphed into DCU Classics. Going back even further, actually, the entire Toy Biz DC line in 1989/1990 started with the first wave being all Batman movie figures. I get that he's the Golden Goose ever since that damn movie, but by this point I'm tired of it.

I've got like 8 of the McFarlane figures so far. They're fine. The ankles on a few of mine suck, especially Animated Superman and Batman, they don't like to stand for anything. I've got checklists of everything that comes out so I can pick up what I want at my leisure but I really don't care about most of it. I like to start a line by getting "basic" versions of the main characters in their standard/iconic looks, and the McFarlane line hasn't been fantastic with that. They've done a few, and they're cool, but as I figured given that it's McFarlane it's been mostly Batman and movie stuff, with tons of variant stuff from all those "event" stories. That's why I wasn't too excited when they got the DC license, I knew what it was gonna be.

Like the stuff they're putting out is "fine" but it's mostly not what I personally want.

Don't tease me with stuff like this, my heart can't take the strain.
I think Spinmasters' license might be the relevant "competing" one but a special license -- say to the Primal Age designs (there's at least an entire unproduced wave of these; not to mention they lack articulation) and medieval/fantasy characters like Warlord and Etrigan and Amethyst might fly.

I think it's doable. It might need to be run past Todd and Spinmasters but it doesn't obviously compete with either one so long as it's medieval/fantasy based.

Neither Todd nor Spinmasters have any interest that I can see in making Warlord and throwing in Primal Age might sweeten things enough for Mattel.

I'll go one further. While I can see Origins having a healthy collector market for over a year (especially with all the redeco potential), I think to really make a splash at retail after a rocky launch that clogged pegs with He-Man and Skeletor, Mattel really NEEDS DC or Thundercats crossing over for relaunch at brick and mortar.

And from there, they probably NEED to rerelease the core versions of the existing stuff like wave 2. But they need that splashy entrance with Thundercats or DC product to get Walmart to order new cases of the earlier waves.

So I think it's not just a matter of some pie-in-the-sky hope. I think it's key to retail strategy if this line is going to live as something more than just an online exclusive line. That and getting WWE Superstars stocked better than Masters of the WWEU to promote the form factor.

Origins being a celebration of that whole era and style of figure is a really great concept. Mattel legitimizing fun characters using similar body styles is exactly the sort of thing to do for collectors and the joy and love of toys in general. This is basically unprecedented. Hasbro buying Kenner and Tonka and incorporating those IPs isn't really the same sort of thing as those were very direct competitors to their brands, not a very small brand looking to incorporate more representation (please do not comment on this, not interested) with a cool fun line. Mattel doing REMCO style MOTU rules too. I know they did Hasbro style figures but again, top company. This just rules so hard and lets do all the MOTU style guys in this format! Toys!

Could have also used Mattel buying Matchbox as an example here.

and yea mattel buying matchbox, but they do a great job separating those. Or TYCO, but they've yet to incorporate Dino-Riders fully, they use elements

They do, but only because when they tried to change Matchbox (2002 or 2003 I think) people stopped buying the product, and they swiftly reversed course.

Even if it was a "sub-line" with a different title from "Masters of the Universe". How about, I'unno, "Champions of the Galaxy" or "Warriors of the Cosmos" or something in that vein, to keep the whole "It's the same as MOTU, but not literally the same as MOTU" spirit of the original toys themselves, in a kind of tongue-in-cheek way that remains apt for what the product represents? You could even stick one'a those "For play with Masters of the Universe figures!" stamps on the front of the packaging without any danger of lawsuits, this time, since Mattel themselves would be the ones making them!

I mean seriously, if they created such a "sub line" or "sister line" or whatever and released four figures per wave, they could cover most or all of Sun-Man/Rulers of the Sun, Warlord, and Galaxy Warriors in just a few waves as those lines weren't incredibly large. I mean it's niche stuff, but hey, why not? They're already doing this one. Go for broke! "Masters of the WWE Universe" is ending, but it proved there was a demand for a second line in this style and scale even if it wasn't strictly MOTU.

C'mon, Mattel! Just give us a "Warriors of the Galaxy" line or whatever you wanna call it, and give us ALL this stuff! Don't just stop at Sun-Man, that's just plain teasing.
I support all of that! At the end of the day consumers are going to incorporate (or not incorporate ) figures into their own personal MOTU universe if they choose. No label on a box is going to stop that just like it didn't when we were children. You buy and use what you like. Now admittedly.... i am a bit interested in seeing the MOTU universe expanded and built upon. The idea of making another action figures universe and back story a part of a wider MOTU canon appeals to me if done right. Lines like Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate SG1, GI Joe, Transformers , etc. all have "expanded universes". I'd like to see that in MOTU so that it grows. Currently MOTU is a nostalgia line for me. In order for it to move out of that category it needs new characters and new adventures to compliment the original "cast" / character line up while still staying true to its 80's line roots . Season 3 of the 200x cartoon series is an example of what that could have looked like in MOTU. So...Sun Man being an official MOTU character does have some appeal for that reason. How are they going to tie Pig Man in with Skeletor and Hordak?

I mean that'd be just plain historic, poetic... and probably another type of "-ic" if there's another apt one I just can't think of at the moment.

I'm tellin' ya, man. "Warriors of the Cosmos" (or whatever) as a sister line to Origins. License to print money. I bet they could even just go ahead and do the Galaxy Warriors characters and not even consult with or pay anybody over it, because I somehow doubt that if anyone from flippin' Sungold is even still alive that they actually care much about preserving rights to any of that stuff anymore.
*shrugs* that's America for you (and precisely why Sun Man was needed when it was originally created). On one hand people want to be judged upon their character and actions. On the other certain demographics simply cannot get past the amount of melanin someone has in their skin, physical features or projected cultural expectations. You saw it in the way Italians were treated historically by Anglo whites before being absorbed into the greater melting pot of American white identity. The Irish were treated harshly at a point in time by Anglos for different but similar reasons. Ashkenazi Jews as well. So until specific demographics stop holding onto the psychological stumbling block of skin tone and what it means in the West there will always be a push back in the form of identity politics and pride.

I mean...there was a reason boxer James Jeffries was named "The Great White Hope" instead of just "The Great James Jeffries". Same with Tommy Morrison (the 2nd Great White Hope). It couldn't JUST be about his boxing skill. It had to be about his skin tone and what it represented at the time for some people.

And a Warriors of the Cosmos line would get all my money lol.

Anyway...Sun-Man. I’m absolutely stoked to see these back. I do kinda love the metallic armor on the exclusive one- looks sharp! Really glad & lucky I was able to grab one.

Since I was screwed out of getting the Exclusive Scareglow by Mattel Creations, I have no incentive to support any of the MOTU lines. I absolutely avoided Monday's sale. But I am curious about how well Sun-Man did.

Can anyone tell me how long the sale lasted for Sun-Man? I'm interested in finding out.

That's insane. A two minute sellout is beyond stupid. Something wrong is definitely going on over at Mattel Creations. There handling this all wrong.

I understand Sun-Man is new in the MOTU line and is interesting but it's not the best designed figure.

I don't think it was the demand, as much as it was the supply.
Mattel probably only produced a minimum quantity for a safe sell out. They also allowed up to 5 per purchase (2-3 is what I would assume would have been in the average sale). Personally, I'd like to see 1-2 be the limit on these. I'm not a fan of the "scalper" and re-seller blame that always gets thrown around, but in this Covid era I've seen a lot of price gouging when it comes to collectables (mainly comic books). People have/had disposable income, and were causing the price of items to go up that had no business going up in a short amount of time.

Mattel also didn't give that much of a heads up to when Sun-Man, Tri-Klops, and the Power-Con exclusives were to go on sale. Usually it's like 1-2 weeks notice? This was less than 48 hours (even with Tri-Klops who we knew was coming soon).

It's Classics all over again. Produce the minimum quantity that will allow for profit and look good to the higher-ups, and having instant sellouts means not having product sit in a warehouse costing them money sitting on a shelf...

The limit on Sun Man was 2 per person. The Mini-Comic Tri-Klops had a limit of 5.

When I checked out around 3 minutes after the sale began, Tri-Klops, Sun Man, and the Grayskull set were still available. I kept refreshing the page out of curiosity. By 5 after, Sun Man had sold out. So it was probably between 4-5 minutes. By 6 after, the Grayskull set was gone. Tri-Klops lasted 19-20 minutes.

Have you considered that the problem is not the story, it is how you are interpreting it?
