The biggest problem I find Sun Man mashed with MOTU is because I don't want to see any "power struggle" in the toy line representation. I've already seen that on Sun-Man promo pictures, where I see him being top of everyone, while He-Man placed like a secondary, sidekick character. That, that... as a die-hard He-Man fan gave me an underwhelming feel. Yes, I totally get this is part of Sun-Man's introduction to this line & he needs to be glorified. However they could have placed them together. It should be noted that it would have felt the same for Sun-Man fans (maybe little controversial) that they would have switched their places. Hence the "power struggle".

I guess all I can say is Iím excited for this. I only had a few of these growing up, but along with other toys that fight the ďstyleĒ of motu, they were right along side of themÖÖ(something that always annoyed me about thundercatsÖtwice the freaking size of motuÖ.of course now super7 and funko made things right)Öbut I digress. I love what a mother did for her childÖ.and so many other children. I get people have different views and feelings, all I can say is, thatís whatís great about collecting in general is you donít have to buy everything. If this figure isnít for you, I guess Iíd move along and just not buy it.

Iím looking forward to the retail release. I want new characters and characters we didnít originally get in 5.5Ē form so this is great. Not to delve too far into the skin debate, but both positions I have read in this thread seem to have their hearts in the right place. As is often the case, we all tend to agree on certain big goals but we differ in how to get there. Nothing inherently wrong in that.

Was there ever any vehicles or playsets for sun-man? I donít recall seeing any and perhaps there were prototypes or sketches made?

I would buy one if they go to retailers but I don't think I will bother with Mattel creations anymore. Huge disappointment man!

Can someone please direct to where I can find the official description of the character’s powers and origin? I’m interested in Sun Man’s backstory and any related fiction. Thanks

Resources on the net are pretty spotty for lesser-known and "knock-off" toy lines, but this site has pretty comprehensive info, including the bios from the vintage packages: http://www.onlinetoyshow.com/figure_...hp?Line_Id=132

Yes, they did say that Sun-Man (and other characters from the vintage line) would be coming to retail. The Mattel Creations release was like the Power Con She-Ra from last year; a kick-off with fancy packaging and a "plus-ed up" version of the figure to homage their vintage toys and mythologies. The retail figure will just be on the normal Origins card like retail She-Ra, basically folding them into MOTU Origins proper.

No vehicles or playsets, alas. There was a second wave of figures planned that was never produced. They're included in the list at http://www.onlinetoyshow.com/figure_...hp?Line_Id=132 or you can see the promo photo that includes all of the produced figures along with the unproduced ones in this news piece: https://www.cnet.com/news/he-man-get...superhero-toy/

And no, I'm not wading into the Tar Swamp discussion above. I'm here to talk toys, not people.

While I think the Sun-Man figure is cool, and story behind it even better. Where does this character fit in to a MOTU "origins" line? I'd rather see all the original figures released before we get into producing other figures. This includes Kronis, Keldor, 200X Evi-Lyn. Give me some Snake Men, Mekaneck, Mantenna, etc. I'm not sure I even want POP figures in this line. Mattel could have very easily reserved Sun-Man and any other non-original release figure for their Masterverse line. Or better yet, give the Olmec figures, and whatever other knockoffs their own line, like MOTU WWE. At least until the original line up has been released. It IS called Origins after all, let's keep any non-origin figures to a minimum, especially when there are tooling costs involved. Mattel is giving us repaints of existing figures like Green Goddess and Anti-Eternia He-man but then spending tooling dollars on figures not from the "origins". I don't know, nothing against any of these other characters, but for me, they don't fit into a MOTU Origins line. And yes, I know we don't have to buy the ones we don't want but if this line gets cancelled before they can release all the original figures, having 6 versions of the same He-Man figure is going to suck.

This is the same tired argument that was constantly trotted out during the Classics run. Thankfully Mattel didn't listen, and that's the reason it became (and will remain) the most awesome and comprehensive MOTU line ever.

There is not a single Sun-Man origin. Olmec continued to change it with every release. In the first release, he is more like He-Man, but by the last relase, he is more like Superman. It seems as if Olmec was trying to keep him relevant by positioning him as similar to whichever hero was currently popular.

You can always just not buy the figure or not post in the thread about him, instead of doing so and looking a dang fool.

Thanks. Thatís very interesting. I didnít realize the line continued long enough for there to be variations of the Sun Man character.

They did not. At some point, they just kept reissuing Sun-Man. That is why he has so many hairstyles. With each release, he would get a new head sculpt and a slightly tweaked origin.

Like I said, the world of Sun Man is completely new to me. I'm trying to gather as much information as I can. The resource Cyberius704 provided has been very helpful. The more I learn about Sun Man, the more fascinating and troubling it becomes.

Here's my thinking, such as it is!

God only knows I want me some Snakemen and the like, but it's worth remembering that it's gonna take Blade, Twistoid and Saurod (who all may never happen, potentially) just to bulk up the few who are missing from the Evil Warriors. Maybe even Kobra Khan like his original release. That's how quickly and how far we've come. We've already got quite a few Horde members too.

In short, there's way less figures than you think for the four main crews and if the line is 'to go Classics' they'll need to be eeked out. But I'm thinking there's a level of insight and competence with Origins hitherto not seen - Green Goddess and LOP Beastman in one wave? Keldor and Kronis? Yes, they're all repaints like most things MOTU, but it's still a risky release schedule character wise that is apparently doing really well anyway.

I'm sure Mattel's game plan with Origins is much the same as it was with Classics. A lot of collectors are only interested in the characters and versions from the vintage MOTU toy line.
They purposely spread out the release of those figures to keep those collectors looking at and buying into the line, while sprinkling in characters and variants from other versions to 1) reuse tooling, 2) to satisfy the fanbases of minicomic versions, 200X versions, etc., and 3) prolong the current line. In Classics, it took a LOOOOONG time to get some of the characters from the vintage line, and subscriptions & sales fell off sharply once they did wrap up the vintage lineup. As someone who's a big fan of the obscure stuff and has been wanting some of the KO lines officially adopted into MOTU for years, I'm happy to see Mattel taking the same "long game" approach with Origins. And don't worry, there are plenty of vintage characters in the upcoming waves, with new tooling that opens more vintage characters!

I think the beauty of the toy line is that it's not called He-Man or even "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" at this point. It's called "Masters of the Universe". The universe is a big place and there are so many different ways they could bring in the Sun-Man line, the Remco lines, any of the other lines they can track down rights to, and have them all fit in, no problem. Maybe not the Remco Warlord line because of DC, but the Warrior Beasts for sure. Have them be new underlings for Skeletor. Have them be from the planet Remicus or something, arriving on Eternia via that old standard - a dimensional rift. Sun-Man is from Earth, just like Marlena if you go by the Adam Is He-Man mythos. Have him arrive on Eternia and maybe have Marlena recognize him as a hero from Earth (in fact, he could be the Superman stand-in since the likelihood of seeing the DC characters appear are slim to none). Bring in the Sungold-Sewco-Simba-SOMA figures as random nameless heroes and flunkies. The sky's the limit, here.
