I am not a fan of IDW and the current writer and I actually do not get along! And their fans haaaaaaate me! I've seen actual screenshots of them calling me out by name on Campbell's twitter many, many times (I don't have Twitter, as it's for schmucks, BUT I do have eyes and ears everywhere, and they tell me things), because I have criticized their writing and general handing of the book the past few years.

Without getting too deep into it, aside from not liking their writing I have reason to believe Campbell simply isn't an altogether honest person and is something of a drama queen, like over time I caught them telling a lot of little white lies on the forum, nothing major just small things, but it would irk me because liars are one of my "buttons". One of the cases being, one of the many times they "quit" the forum, they made a big show of it on Twitter, like "That place is so negative and toxic, I'm done, I've actually been done for a long time, I can't even remember the last time I was there, it's been so long," but they were constantly logging in multiple times a day even then. And at first I just snickered at it privately, but then one of Campbell's fans was chastising the forum for "making them leave", and I was like, "Dude, they are literally logged on Right Now, they never 'quit', they've been on every single day since they said they 'quit'. Their damn username is visible, either they don't know how to set themselves 'invisible' or they don't care."

Point being, Campbell did not "quit" the forum - although I'd never blame anyone if they did, these days, and I'm sure by now they did for real - but they said they did on Twitter simply so they could "rally the troops" and get them to go on the forum to cry at us about it, which is what happened. All while Campbell silently watched on, no doubt proud of it all. I just found it vulgar, and said so out loud; it was such a "I need hugs; minions, go forth and validate me!" moment, from someone who quite honestly should be WAY too busy for such things. Like, it's narcissistic behavior; hawking a forum where 9/10s of the active posters outspokenly don't like your work, pretending out loud to not care while caring a whole lot, actively stirring up drama so people will flock to you in support and also lash out at your "attackers"... Campbell has narcissistic personality disorder mixed with low self-esteem. I'm saying it.

So, uh, yeah, I don't like the book, and we don't get along. TO BE FAIR, I already didn't like it before that, just for different reasons; the vibe never "clicked" with me, and I don't like most of their re-imaginings of various pre-existing characters. I don't think it was necessarily "bad", pre-100, just not something I cared to spend money on. I do think most of post-100 has been bad, but I stopped paying attention a while ago.

For the record, despite what Campbell's Twitter thinks, I don't hate the way they've handled the book simply because they've made "shipping" and girl mutants being in same-sex relationships a huge focus. Now, in fairness, most of the TMNT forum do hate those things and have said so, and I have said it's not how the book should probably be written if they want it to sell to more than a niche audience. Most people there have said it a lot nastier than I have. BUT, because I have a "big personality" and tend to write long posts nobody actually reads, I often have things attributed to me that I never actually said. Some people DID say they hate Campbell's TMNT specifically because of "shipping and girl mutants and lesbians". What I said was, "That's not a great focus for the book but what's worse is simply the execution, not specifically the ideas." But see, nobody on the internet has time for Nuance.

I have explained, at great length, that since I myself often write stories full of "shipping" and female main characters and same-sex relationships, it is highly unlikely that I "hate" or "am against" those things. Campbell, and their Twitter, choose to ignore this, and label me a "homophobic bigot" anyway. As you might guess, this is very aggravating, but by this point I'm long past trying to correct them. Suffice to say, things like that only widen the gap, not narrow it. I'm certainly not going to reward with money - or attention - someone who either lies about me, or otherwise encourages their fans to do so just to prop up their own fragile self-esteem. I am not a bigot; I have been called one simply for pointing out ways in which someone's writing has fallen short, despite having experience in writing the same subject matter. This is not simply a person/fanbase that cannot handle constructive criticism, these are people who take "criticism" as an attack and in turn slander the critic simply for being critical.

That's just plain not good behavior. Fails all around.

Conversely, I come off very stern and self-serious online, and I am aware of that, it's just how I express, but I know I'm not everyone's cup of tea either thanks to my "typing tone". If someone watches me on YouTube, though, they would get a much better idea of my real personality. I'm actually quite charming.

So if you and I met offline, we might have fun. For starters, I could finally live out my long-wished for drinking game where everyone takes a shot every time you say "absolutely"! We'd all be dead in ten minutes from liver failure, but it'd still be fun! And in person, you physically could not spray emojis everywhere like glitter, which would also make me much more relaxed in your presence. These are playful jabs, but I'm serious; online, you make me sigh sometimes, but I'm pretty sure it'd be entirely different in real life, because I find it to be that way incredibly often, with people.
I don't have an "online persona", I'm just me being myself, this really is how I truly am. I don't know how to put on an act so to speak, I just be myself online or offline. It's much easier to just be me than invent a persona which I doubt I could carry off for any length of time. I try not to be annoying or grating, but I can't be anything but myself.

I do find it a bit odd that you're so dismissive of childish TMNT...while using Filmation Avatar .

I believe you. I just couldn't come up with any simpler way to say "The manner in which you present yourself online". I went with the option with the fewest words. But now I've explained it, and defeated the entire purpose.

    Thanks, YOU.

It's a nice, clean picture of an "iconic"-looking He-Man shot. I'm much more of a Norem guy but I didn't see one of those while I was picking out my avatar, and I'm incredibly lazy so I haven't bothered trying to change or update it in a while. I may never, if I do it'll most likely be just because so many people have the exact same one. I don't think I'm around often enough for it to matter, though.

I'll also argue to the death that even at its lowest of lows, Filmation MOTU was never AS "goofy/stupid" as the FW TMNT cartoon at its worst. At least 85% of the dialog in MOTU isn't "hip" catchphrases or terrible jokes about food, and the bad guys in MOTU generally require more effort to smite them than merely throwing a pie. Generally.

Another thing about TMNT fans that I failed to mention, but may as well since I'm vent ranting, is that most hardcore TMNT fans HATE He-Man and MOTU, which I just plain find unforgivable. It would be bad enough alone that they sincerely think TMNT is "cooler" and "better" than MOTU - it's not, this isn't even a debate or a matter of opinion; TMNT at its best would need a rocket up its proverbial ass to be anywhere near as cool as MOTU is, was, and always has been. But that's just annoying, what's worse is how they make the usual lame jokes about MOTU being "gay" and how anyone who watches it is also gay because "naked barbarians hah hah" and "He-Man was only popular for two years and TMNT has always been popular and mainstream so you like stupid stuff with no staying power". I'd usually counter with how at least most He-Man stuff has been consistently good-to-great whereas while TMNT has had a more steady drip of content, most of it is godawful, so it's really nothing at all to brag about or try and compare favorably against MOTU. But it's just always been annoying how if EVER He-Man would be mentioned among a group of TMNT fans, they'd just have to chime in with how "stupid and gay and not-popular" it is.

Through those debates over the years, I quickly realized that no, a bunch of reptiles doing kung-fu in the sewer while eating pizza with their pet rat is by far the more stupid thing, and in fact, when spoken aloud, it's probably the single dumbest premise ever executed with any amount of success. How dare Those People speak their nonsense. It offends me. Compared to a premise like, "Lord of the Rings meets Star Wars, except the main guy is a super-hero and the bad guy is a lich with a skeleton-face." Gimme a break, man. That's not even "apples to oranges", that's comparing apples to apple pits, if we're being real about it.

I know, I'm harsh. It's like the man (creature) said: "I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine, and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other."

I love MOTU/POP/NA, DC, Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, and Thundercats (among other properties) equally. With me, there has never been a mindset of "this is better than that" or "this rules/this sucks". My heart is big enough to hold in all these fandoms.

I didn't think that I'd like it as much either, but when I saw Into the Spider-verse, I was blown away. (Still the best Spider-Man movie in existence...)

It's definitely a unique style, but I think that they're paying homage to the TMNT's comic book roots.

The thing that has me the most excited is that this is an introduction / precursor to the new weekly animated show!

It was a bummer that Rise of the TMNT ended prematurely... but, this looks like a great followup.

Marvel Comic writers are the same way, especially 'Slotto Blocktavius' Dan Slott.

Right now I'm concentrating on completing my Power Rangers DVD collection, but I need to turn my attention to Ninja Turtles and fill in the many gaps in my TMNT DVD collection. I have all the live action movies, the CGI movie, the TMNT/Batman crossover, Turtles Forever, and the Nickeolodon series.

Although I have a fair amount of the following, I still need to get the rest of Classic TMNT, the 2003-2009 series, Next Mutation, and Rise Of TMNT (although I do have the feature animated movie on Netflix even though I hope it comes to DVD too).

I've always been a fan of both He-Man and Turtles, though I remembered the Turtles episodes more than the He-Man ones since I was older. Luckily when I was living in Mexico, for whatever reason, they decided to air He-Man for a good while, so I was able to rewatch them (in spanish of course) and unlock those memories of when I saw them the first time around. Ironically, it was around the time I found this forum and the people here were cool in welcoming me in and answering all the questions I had upon watching the cartoon again.

As for the movie, it really depends what mood I'm in when it hits. I have some morbid curiosity. It looks like it's flat out gonna be mutant-mania with tons of mutated animals, even Bebop and Rocksteady won't start out as humans in this one.

Not sure how this movie will lead to a new series. It sounds like all the mutants will be mindless monsters and then be demutated at the end of it.

This new movie by Seth Rogen looks awful and unfunny! it's trying to imitate Spider-Verse, i do like Spider-Verse but this doesn't work for Ninja Turtles plus the Ninja Turtles aren't really teens but rather more like 10 year olds in this one and why would a mutant turtle need glasses or braces? plus the new design on April O'Neil is awful looking even fat and frumpy looking. This looks badly written with poor humor like that sai to the leg was just cringe humor.

I guaranteed this is gonna flop at the box office! why reduce the turtles to the family pool? the original comics were gritty and unique, at least the 1990 classic movie brought in the spirit of the comics while using some elements of the animated show. But 1990 movie with the 200X Ninja Turtles animated show are the best non-comic adaptations of the comics.

The problem is there's too many fake geeks nowadays who claim their geeks but are really just activists disguised as geeks as they are posers, it's true and so much toxic positivity, well i'm sick of it. I'm a very honest man who can't fake passion as it's good to get mad and be hateful that they are screwing up some things like TMNT (the CGI show was ok at best but there hasn't been a great show since 200X) to MOTU (Noelle's Nu-Ra to Smith's He-Man yet the CGI one isn't too bad at all but much better than Smith's He-Man), Star Wars, Star Trek, and some other geek culture properties true fans care for. Kevin Smith claims to be a He-Man fan, but only later revealed to be not a fan as he gives fans the middle finger with his show where He-Man is humiliated in favor of Teela who acts like a b *** to Adam's parents and turned a likable character from the franchise even in the 2000X reboot into a masculine figure rather than as a beautiful, strong smart and wise character. Kathleen Kennedy is turning everything she touches into crap at Lucasfilm lately with the sequel trilogy, some Star Wars shows (minus Mandorlean which was done right), Willow the series (making Willow and Madmartigan into losers made me as a fan of the movie since childhood mad) and soon, Indiana Jones 5 (i have bad feeling they are gonna make Indiana Jones a loser

Yet i'm a fan of Top Gun, Dark Crystal, Blade Runner and Karate Kid 1 and 2 since childhood as i did saw Top Gun in theaters on my 5th birthday as it's been one of my fave action films and war films since, Dark Crystal since 4 when i had it taped off HBO and Karate Kid since i saw part 1 on HBO and saw 2 in theaters even Blade Runner since i rented it at 10 on video even saw the Director's Cut in theaters as I'm glad they didn't screw up these iconic 80s geek culture film classics with Dark Crystal Age of Resistance , Blade Runner 2049, Cobra Kai and Top Gun Maverick. I'm a true geek since i was 4 for 38 years and know about 80s and 90s pop culture even comics and games to sci-fi and fantasy and all. Plus I'm a real person with a passion for movies and a movie critic.

Stuff like Dark Crystal AOR, Blade Runner 2049, Cobra Kai and Top Gun Maverick were everything fans of these properties asked for like me and were positive to fans by actual fans of these properties, I'm glad they didn't screw them up like some did to other 80s movie classics like Robocop, Elm Street, Poltergeist, and more. These 4 examples are passion projects, not done for the sake of a quick buck and flip off fans like Robocop 2014 did for example which were made by people who were never fans of the property and only guns for hire.

Cobra Kai, Top Gun Maverick and Blade Runner 2049 actually embraces tradition of legacy movie heroes while rejecting modernity like what was been done to Luke Skywalker, Bill and Ted, Dewey in Scream 5 and Willow as characters like Luke Skywalker, Bill and Ted in the new movie, and Dewey in Scream 5 were humiliated, deconstructed and turned into shells of their former selves which made me as a fan of Scream, Bill and Ted 1 and 2 and Star Wars classic trilogy very mad. Maverick, Deckard and Daniel Larusso weren't deconstructed into losers but respected honored and given redemption, that made me and other fans of these properties happy.

Seth Rogen claims to be a Ninja Turtles fan, but i have a feeling he's bull s hitting us as he's trying to give fans the finger.

This looks awesome and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Very interesting conversation going on in this thread.

Yeah, this is me, pretty much. MOTU was my first major collecting/franchise obsession. When that ended, TMNT was the next one. Both properties have strong nostalgia ties for me and I will always give a new incarnation a fair shot (I tend to like them most of the time).

Concerning fandoms in general, currently I'm in a middle ground. I'm a social person and I love talking passions with other people. But over the past decade, fandoms tend to be a minefield. So much negativity and blind hate that perplexes me. This is stuff we came together to love, but many times these places become areas where people breed and share hate. It's okay to dislike something or a facet of something... and it's fine to mention it in conversation. But when people seem to make it their whole identity, life, and goal... it pushes me away. I'm trying to not let it ruin my love of things I enjoy... to separate toxic fandom from the property itself. But sometimes it can be so tough to do. And even then... as a social person, part of my fun of fandom is sharing that passion with other like-minded people. So yeah, although I could just enjoy what I like in private, it's missing that extra dimension, you know?

The TMNT forums for the past few months have been a bunch of 8chan rejects going on insane far-right rants against minorities, women, gay people, and especially trans people. Really, really, really despicable stuff, and they get to do it because the site's owner abandoned the place years ago (aside from paying to keep it online) and there's only one Mod left, and he's too busy to do anything no matter how many complaints they get.

I know they don't speak for all TMNT fans. But I've "known" these people for over two decades. Some of them are "in the business" and have collaborated with actual TMNT content creators. They are not the ENTIRE fanbase, but they are the most involved, vocal, and above all passionate TMNT fans. TMNT is by far their Very Favorite Thing Ever, collectively. That place is where the people who never stopped loving TMNT for even a second since 1987 all congregate, still.

And they spend most of their free time calling various groups of people "sick freaks" and "subhuman trash".

    Make it make sense.

The irony is, if mutant turtles were real, the most passionate TMNT fans would likely be the ones calling for them to be killed and dissected. Because that's what they say about actual human beings who aren't white and straight.

It's like the entire theme of TMNT - "Freaks and Outcasts are People Too!", i.e. tolerance and acceptance of "the other", and so on - was completely lost on these people, despite the fact they've been immersed in the material non-stop for 30 years.

It's really frustrating and heartbreaking. Again, I know, I know... "Not All TMNT Fans". But TOO many. Far too many of the "real, hardcore, Never Say Die" fans. The ones who love TMNT most? Awful, disgusting people. If I didn't already hate all the current content, and that wasn't enough to make me rage quit... the fans sure would be. I want NOTHING to do with those people, ever again, and I'm sincerely ashamed to have ever called many of them "friends".

Many of them still talk about me behind my back, since not for nothing but I was so present and vocal for so many years I kind of became a "legend" around that place. They're convinced I've been brainwashed by some left-wing "rainbow people" ideology. Like nah man, just not a total scumbag.

It's funny how many hills people decide to die on.

I loved sitting back and watching the fanbase implode over MOTU Revelation... and I look forward to reading more about how their lives were ruined when Revolution comes out.

Some of the criticisms levied against this new TMNT are comical. This is a franchise that has touched almost every major corner of popculture ten times over... to say that this is going to be awful is nothing that we TMNT fans haven't heard 10,000 times before.

My advice? Give it a chance.

As always, I absolutely agree with you Ornclown, I can't wait to see the new TMNT movie! I also need to complete the DVD sets for various versions of TMNT, now that my Power Rangers DVD collection is almost complete. I did find the Next Mutation and 2003-2009 animated series on the Internet Archive site which is enough to tide me over until I get around to getting the rest of the DVD's.

I HATE racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia and antisemitism. Bigotry of any kind is just pure evil.

The vitriol for Revolution likely won't be a patch on what happened (deservedly so) with Revelation. It's already lost one of it's major stars and all they have now are CW leftovers and a reduced episode count.

To be fair, no He-Man fan who rode the wave of Revelation controversy looked like a million bucks.

I joined Geek Gatekeep to gatekeep these toxic neoliberal woke bullies out of geekdom who are fake fans who are activists in disguised, i'm also now part of Bounding into Comics and i support Eric July and his comics and merchandise. I'm also part of the MEGA aka Making Entertainment Great Again movement which means make entertainment great again like in the old days of the late 70s, 80s and 90s again when entertainment was entertainment before this new woke movement to shoehorn everything down your throat.

I'd rather be like my favorite youtube critics Ramboraph4life and Ocpcommunications who are honest no BS youtube movie/show critics and i support Chris Rock and Dave Chappell, cause they don't give a f because twitter ain't a real place.

Oh. So it's a thing where people with no real-life problems waste their limited time left on this planet by being way too angry about how many minorities are in comics, movies and TV shows?

Yeah, nah, pass. We already have forums for that. I'm not interested in "Breitbart: The Diet Coke Pop Culture Version". Have yourself a merry time, though, it's your free time and all.
