In response to the previous comments about Origins/MOTU being in trouble and not selling well, Mattel posted their quarterly earnings yesterday. In the transcript, I forget how many times MOTU is mentioned, but in short, it appears to be doing very well. They never specifically mention whether its Origins or Masterverse, only that MOTU is alive and well. Here's the transcript if anyone's interested: https://www.fool.com/earnings/call-t...ll-transcript/

Reporting on the same story, plus other things, its good to see MOTU mentioned on the BBC News website: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-59001719

Jeez action figure are up 76% year to date. No wonder theyíre hard to find on top of the shipping fiasco

For the people saying origins is in trouble/not selling well, why do they continue to keep pumping out new figures?

TBH, itís not a lot of people who keep on saying MOTU is in trouble. Itís He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named and his silly Youtube videos, and a couple of people on here who, for some unfathomable reason, badly want him to be right. That's it. Of course, He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named will make a silly clickbait video in response to this, because he apparently knows more than the current Mattel leadership. And the ones who weirdly want him to be right will post it.

There has been a lot of talk on Reddit that Mattel reps are saying that production for MOTU Origins waves 1-4 have been discontinued. Additionally, Entertainment Earth have already been sending out emails with cancellation notices for users who had pre-orders for figures in Origins wave 1 that haven't been sent out yet. The notices said that they been notified by the manufacturer that they won't receive anymore shipments of Origins wave 1 because the items have been discontinued. No additional information was given as to why this occurred.

Other people on Reddit and on facebook are saying that not only is Origins wave 1 production discontinued but so are waves 2-4.

I have all Origins figures so far and will collect them all. I really want the line to continue as long as possible and especially to get all the Snake Men.

With the clearance of Origins He-Man and Skeletor at Walmart and now this. That can't be good news for Origins.....

Obviously supply chain issues complicate this, because people haven't been able to actually find figures from earlier waves (in-store, at least), but in any other toy line that was on it's 7th or so wave, wouldn't the first few waves have been discontinued by now anyway? The cancellation of orders is bad and weird, but maybe that's more bad and weird on EE's part than Mattel's part?

I would expect to have to go to the secondary market to find figures released almost 2 years ago at this point, so it doesn't seem that alarming to me.

I'm surprised so many people are shocked about this. It's the only way new waves will come out. Every toy line don't continue to make past stuff.

I thought that was just a normal thing. As a line of anything continues to grow, whether it be toys, dinnerware, clothing, candles etc...older styles, patterns, colors, scents...get discontinued in order to update and spotlight the new merchandise.

Yes. Thinking about it rationally it makes sense. Iím a big fan of origins and want it to continue as long as possible. The number one toy line I collect is Transformers and Hasbro does same thing with prior lines and discontinuation. I suppose Covid and the backed up supply line is making things appear worse for Origins. With Mattel already releasing wave 6 and with listings for wave 7 and supposedly leaks for wave 8+ origins should be around for a while. I just get nervous and Scott Nietlich isnít making it better with all his videosÖ..

Then stop watching them. Really. That and stop reading the cesspit of doom-sayers and panic-merchants that is Reddit.

Seriously, how are the MOTU supply issues any different to the supply issues with Transformers' Kingdom line this year, and Earthrise last year? Entire waves have just not been making it to various regions, or doing so three or four months late (that would be Kingdom deluxe wave 3 in Australia, due in July, spotted on shelves for the first time this weekend). Has anyone been declaring Transformers a dead line that Hasbro is going to drop any minute now?

That said, this is a bit of an annoyance. Here in Australia, Origins finally hit the shelves this month, with He-Man, Skelly, and an odd mish-mash of waves 5 and 6. Discontinuance of the older waves at this point will make it largely impossible to obtain those toys.

Hopefully they start sprinkling re-releases among future waves. In this supposed leak of upcoming product, you'll see Trap Jaw is listed.

One could argue that's the mini comic version, but isn't he supposedly releasing in the wave with with Clawful, Horde Trooper, and AE He-Man? I suppose they could also be listed there but not in the image, but my hope is that's a re-release of the regular Trap Jaw.

Anyone that had open preorders for Origins Trapjaw with Entertainment Earth had their order cancelled this week. In the email EE said that Mattel told them that Trapjaw has been discontinued and will no longer be produced so EE wonít be getting any more stock in. Origins Trapjaw is wave 2.

That listing has to be mini comic Trapjaw.

Seriously, I think people really need to either stop watching He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named's videos altogether, or at least remind yourself whilst you're watching them that, as of now, he's as much "in the know" as the rest of us. But yes, I agree. If his videos are getting to you, then don't watch them. Its not as though they contain any important or accurate information, so you're not missing much.

That's the mini-comic Trap Jaw. Judging by the dates of the preorders for the upcoming waves, Sun Man is the 4th member of the Clawful, Horde Trooper, and AE He-Man wave.

It is normal for waves to stop being made. No line ever has continued to produce the same waves over and over again for the entire life of the line.

Yeah, I also don't think that this is a suprising decision, their factories have limited capacity that is needed for future waves. But I do expect them keep making He-man and Skeletor available in some capacity - actually, they just did be re-issue them with the vintage heads, so people should be able to get a hold of them withtou too much hassle.

Like a lot of others have said, toy lines discontinue waves all the time. It frees up resources for making new products for both its own line and other toy lines the company makes. Just because the specific wave(s) has been discontinued doesn’t necessarily mean that any of the figures from that wave will never see a rerelease IMO. Probably unlikely that the entire wave will be rereleased at one time but it’s possible some of these figures will get worked back in sometime down the road. Possible. So unfortunately it’s back to waiting and seeing or pay the markup on the secondary market. I don’t think that the discontinuation of waves 1-4 and the clearancing of OG Skeletor and He-man necessarily spell the end for Origins. Both are the type of things that have happened to other lines that continued on for several waves after. I’d be more worried if waves 6-7 start getting canceled in the next few weeks as opposed to a year-year and a half from now.

As one of those who has continually beat the drum and sounded the alarm that Origins appears to be doing poorly, I'll just say I never wanted that to be true. If Mattel official says otherwise then please by all means bring on a robust 2022 and beyond. There are so many Origins I still need- Rio Blast, any/all Snake men, Mekanek, more Sun man characters, etc- that I'm ready-- NAY-- excited for more.

I just wish Mattel could get its supply line issues fixed so that waves of Origins last on pegs longer than an afternoon. And please for the love of mercy we need more than just He-man & Skeletor.

I think this is only news because Mattel was actually producing these in a bit more of an old-school way, where they were doing multiple runs. Most toy lines these days are a 'one and done' run.

Also, there were obviously retailers with outstanding open orders that were cancelled.

I have yet to see Origins hitting clearance at Target, but my guess is it's a matter of time. New waves sell through, but I don't think big box on the whole is selling enough to warrant keeping pegs filled or renewing that peg space for 2022. What this will mean for all of the 2022 product Mattel showed at Powercon is anyone's guess, but all of this clearance talk is not instilling confidence that Origins has much life left in it.
Yeah and youíve been refuted many times. It hasnít been sitting like you think it has and it wonít. Youíre a parrot repeating the talking points of a bitter ex employee.

DudeÖ thatís standard. Most toy lines donít produce waves of toys beyond the first few weeks let alone two years into the line.

Waves 1-4 are also fairly heavy with core characters that are prime refresh characters for variants and redeco.

We've already gotten 200x Evil-Lyn & 200x Skeletor appears to be coming. There are a lot of cool 200x variants -- Orko & Zodak come to mind. If they do move into the Snake Men -- Snake Man-At-Arms seems like a no-brainer.

Kol-Darr is Filmation -- there are a ton of Filmation variants we could be given.

Not to mention there are still cool mini-comic variants from the first four mini-comics -- Red Beast Man, Blonde Teela, Savage He-Man/Oo-Lar.

She-Ra & Hordak have Filmation variants they could give us, as well as Deluxe variants we have yet to get.

Anti-Eternia could give us a ton of variants that are easily achieved via repaint.

I would love an original cardback colors repaint of Man-E-Faces. Or a repaint based on the 200x vs. the Snake Men toy. He's my favorite character, so I'll take any repaint they want to give me.
Also wouldn't mind an alternate Scareglow based on the model Mattel used for photos. I know it wouldn't glow, but I kind of like it.
Zodak is near the top of my wishlist (just below Gygor). Hoping he's a deluxe so we get heads with and without helmet, like they (eventually) gave us with classics.
