I'm sorry to hear that he's using your blog to create his own content and not give any credit at the very least. (I'm a big stan of your blog btw).

I also hear the other members posts about not giving him time/air and for quite sometime I have been ignoring his videos. But his latest one is just a downright lie. I don't post any comments on his YouTube account. I find his behaviour problematic and irresponsible. I know this is about toys (nothing serious) but I don't understand his need to be so bitter and twisted.

He's basically past the point of sanely being able to take a victory lap over the line's eventual death, imo, but obviously that won't stop him.
Origins has had well over a hundred figures to the vintage line's 72.

Also, the vintage line was floundering at this point in its lifecycle, losing ground to Transformers.

His MOTU arrogance and ego are unprecedented, to this day he keeps telling people that he co-created this character and co-created that character, and this was his idea and that was his creation!!!... One day he's gonna claim that MOTU was his dad's idea and Mattel was his family's heritage!

And he just loves MOTU so much to the point where his "Mighty Spector enforced character" looked nothing like MOTU! What a trooper!

It depends who you work for, also a person like TG is an unapologetic opportunist with some issues IMHO. And once they get into the higher division of the hierarchy system, things could get a little ugly especially in the US where the safety net isn’t always guaranteed. That’s also why you could witness those occasional mass layoffs.

Back to important matters - my Talon Fighter made its way to the Dead Heart today, after an inexplicable week of no movement since hitting Melbourne.

I won't be installing the handle - I know it can come back out (and have seen it done in a video), but given the design of the plastic socket it fits into (three angled barbs, with a ridge being shoved through them), it isn't really meant to.

But now I've got to re-work my shelf to find somewhere to put it - oh, life's tough

Where did you order your Talon Fighter from JJJ? Hope you have fun finding a place for it!

I ordered mine from BBTS and haven't received a notification yet.

I feel this is semi-relevant to Spector discussion.

Eh, they were an interesting effort and brought back some forgotten things, but I wouldn’t want it to be the Definitive version of MOTU lore (neither would I want 200X to be). Too much over explaining and not enough mystery.

I hope the Origins comics / lore doesn’t borrow too heavily from it and charts it’s own path. I really loved especially the early MOTUO mini-comics that could take place in almost *any* continuity of MOTU. And the card back variations of characters, LoP etc, that seem to defy one standardized saga at times.

I love when they supply the pieces, and we are invited to put together our own lore!

That's what the original creators wanted MOTU to be.

It's one of my favorites aspects of the line. The stories are mine to create with this awesome world of characters.

I like the notion that we are free to use which ever canon or pieces of different to make our own worlds but I also see the potential to create a lore that could be Tolkien-esque in its history and mythos. And I think it’s a completely individual choice on how to imagine the world of Eternia and no one way of doing it is right or wrong. I think as kids none of us ever really played with toys worrying about canons etc. I had he-man vs bravestarr vs thundercats. Star Wars vs gi joe vs transformers. Really anything that was in scale with another toy

I don't mind that at all and even enjoy reading other people's stories or takes on the line.

What I'm not as crazy about is saying there's a definitive "story" that is supposedly canon. I didn't particularly care for most of the bio's created for the MOTUC line. I'd prefer not to even think about them, much less have media created based off them. It pains me to think someone completely new to the franchise might pick up a book one day and read about these characters based off those bios.

I played with these toys for years and have my own interpretations of them. I know it's not an apples to apples comparison but it would feel a lot like how Lucas/Disney destroyed years of entertaining novels, stories, and comics with new movies that dismissed them all.

    Couple of thoughts:

While I generally agree, I am all for doing something definitive when it adds something. I'll give Revelations as an example of something that tried to do a LOT of definitive things, probably too many. At the same time, I think the net results of Evil-Lyn having a character arc and retiring, King Grayskull not looking like He-Man, Randor and Marlena knowing He-Man's secret, and Teela becoming the new Sorceress are worthwhile additions. We just didn't necessarily need everything we got to get there, particularly casual deaths/changes for other characters. I'm optimistic about Revolutions and in particular getting new Horde members including a Horde Sorceress who is technology based.

I have been a lifelong fan of multiverse stories as a means of everything being canon and spent what seems like a lifetime advocating them. Now that they're mainstream in most genre brands, I have a problem with them. I think they're overused to separate stories that don't need separated and that, sometimes, a story really benefits from two stories with different sources both being true. I think, for example, that it's a rich detail of the current continuity that Supergirl died fighting the Anti-Monitor and, later, Superman died fighting Doomsday. Those two stories have never really been both true in a single continuity before and I feel like there can be deep stories about the commonality and differences of Kara and Kal's experiences. You lose something potentially good if you dole those out into separate continuities only. Likewise, I think Filmation or the 87 movie continuity can and should have their own versions of Eternia tower, Lubic, Buzz-Off, etc. instead of walling those off as unique to particular continuities. I'm not advocating a cluster continuity like Classics. I am saying that I'd like different versions of characters, vehicles, and certain events reinterpreted differently across different universes.

Rather than say 87 movie He-Man never had a Battlecat or Orko, I'd rather see new designs in that style for 87 movie Battlecat and Orko and an account of what they were doing while He-Man was on Earth. I don't need or want for anything that wasn't shown to be limited to universes where we've seen it before.

If Motherboard is cool in Revolutions, bring her over into Origins without any commitment to canonize everything from that show. In fact, maybe redesign her a bit to fit the line.

I'm OK with definitive if I believe it's good for the franchise or if I think it will grow the franchise. But, like in the case of Revelations, (IMO) it did neither. So to think now a new fan has this media basically being presented as "canon" (until it gets redone, if ever) is very sad to me. The presentation of many of the characters is particularly underwhelming.

I guess I prefer the old days of figures on card back that said "Motherboard: Evil techno-sorcerer!" with a small mini comic that showcased her power and left the rest up to me. Each character was basically presented as a unique and special event. A new challenge for He-man or another warrior in the fight for good.

Once you downplay a character in media, or even do the opposite, it's hard to change that perception. I guess this is my very convoluted way of saying I don't care for "official canon".

I completely agree in a lot of what people say about definitive canons, I guess it depends on how you view the motu universe(s). If it’s just toys then you have the freedom of imagination but nowadays if you want to create long running media like comics cartoons movies etc then you need a narrative to be able to expand.
I look at each incarnation as a different part of the multiverse so I can say ‘nah that one’s not for me’ or ‘ooh I love that version’. I personally love the classics lore for its narrative but I also love the filmation series which is just a bunch of adventures with no real overarching story.
I think it’s why I roll my eyes at people who get so mad at each incarnation because it doesn’t fit their world. I didn’t like the cgi show or the dreamworks she-ra but I don’t care that other people loved it.
The beauty of the motu is it’s ours to take or leave any story and roll it into our very own version of Eternia.

Come to think of it, we already had the attempt of a grand 1,000 page comics saga, trying to do the LotR / GoT approach– DC’s Eternity War.
Not everyone likes it or accepts it as such, but this is probably as close as we’re getting for a while.

To bring it back to the topic of the thread, I think many of us agree that, whatever your hopes and tastes about grand lore and overarching “Cinematic Universes”, Origins is not the place for it.
I’m very glad they handle it the way it is and adore the fragments and little showcases of a fascinating world that comes together in our mind.

In my neck of the woods(and the toy aisle), it seems MOTU is still losing ground to transformers. They’ve literally got half the aisle and an end cap and no MOTU to be seen for miles! Lol

At my Walmarts and Targets alike, vintage TMNT seems to be what took Origins' lost pegs. The crossover is probably especially smart.

I’d read this or thought can’t think how it would work. Maybe they could tie in the Transformers with Robotica and Roboto and connect it to Cybertron.
