    Custom of Origins Figures

I'm a big fan of Filmation's character design, as they are the way I got to know the franchise, now with the release of Origins figures I wanted them to be more like the characters in the cartoon, so since I started collecting I've been customizing my items. There are some exceptions about the choice of what I used to customize the figures, for example the Hordak, as I like the original version of the character better than the Filmation version.

The idea was to be a very basic thing, just painting, but over time something more complex was needed to make the figures as I wanted, (cof cof Merman, haha), so I used epoxy putty. If you can say what you think about my work it would be amazing to me.

You will notice that most of my customizations involve the eyes and eyebrows.
I will tell you how things will work here, I will post a photo that will have a photo of how the figure was before and how it looked after I customized and a photo of what I was based on. It will also have a summary of the changes made.

I don't know if I can say this, but I post customizations of Figures from other themes and build some from scratch as well, I publish them on my instagram @zeluiz_08, if disclosure of instagram page is not allowed I apologize to the administrators and you are free to remove this paragraph, I just ask you not to delete the entire post, I'm new to the site.

For starters, Custom Battle Cat / Cringer

In this figure I painted the eyes yellow, the snout dark green, the chin hairs light green, I painted some smaller teeth between the fangs, I did the eyebrows and although it can't be seen in the photo (I apologize) I did the inside part of the ears in darker green.

That is a major improvement, in my opinion. You did a very good job with it. Maybe I'll do the same to mine someday. Keep it up. Looking forward to the others if they are this quality.

Thank you very much, try yes.

Thanks, what you've done is great, I intended to make Cringer's face shape more like that of the cartoon using epoxy putty, but if I do that the helmet will no longer fit.

    Custom He-Man & Prince Adam

My goal with this customization was to make the Filmation version of He-Man and Prince Adam.
Before explaining what was done, I want to make an observation, have you noticed that despite being the same mold the heads of He-Man and Prince Adam have some differences? The first and simple difference is the eyebrows, Adam's is perfect while He Man's is it's poorly painted, the second is the quality of the plastic they're made of, Adam's head the plastic looks better than the plastic used in He-man's.
So the first thing I did switch the heads of the 2 dolls between each other, Adam's head went to He-Man and He-Man's head went to Adam, on both heads I had to paint the white part of the eyes, and on He-Man's head (which is on Adam's body in my photo) I had to remove the original eyebrows and repaint them like Adam's head, thus creating a pattern.
It is worth mentioning that I was not able to remove the ink from my eyebrows with any product, I did use acetone to weaken the ink and using a tool with a fine tip, I scraped the ink, very gently so as not to mark the plastic.
I don't know how popular the first head of He-Man/Principe Adam Origins is in other countries, but in Brazil it is quite hated. But particularly I never liked any He-Man head from any collection, be it vintage, classics, filmation, 200x, super 7, among others, I can't explain but I just never liked them. However, in my humble opinion Adam's head with the whites of his eyes painted on is the best He-Man head ever.

Again, you've done a really good job here. These are much much better. The whites in the eyes makes so much of a difference. The eyebrows too.

Did you do anything to reduce the glossiness of the head? It's glossier in the before pictures, but that could be due to camera/flash. I like it better with less gloss. Especially on Adam, he looks less angry without those cheekbones standing out so much. Would be cool if we could close the mouth on Adam.

Good job! I look forward to your next post.

Did you repaint the hair? Looks better in the after shoots. Again, could be camera /lighting.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it, these changes you noticed from one photo to another are precisely the difference in the quality of the plastic, I didn't dye his hair. I didn't paint anything other than what I said I did, at most I touched up the red parts of He-Man's vest because in addition to customizations I also restore the painting of the figures when they are poorly painted, for example my Hordak came with the symbol on the chest missing ink.
About flash, I don't use flash in photos.

    Custom Skeletor

The goal was to make it as similar as possible to the Filmation version of Skeletor.
This was the first customization I made to the Origins collection, however, it was also the last so far, because all the time I have new ideas to improve it, it's even worth mentioning that I'm quite a perfectionist so it's possible that I'll re-post some figure that I had already published here but as a new modification.
I tried to standardize this Skeletor head with the Skeletor head that comes in Pack Rise of the Evil, where the teeth are better defined and painted a lighter yellow.

    Modifications:

    • I painted his eyes entirely black.
    • I painted what would be the muscle in the eyebrow region a fluorescent yellow to create a meaner look.
    • I painted the corners of the mouth black, to make the opening of the mouth look bigger.
    • I repainted the shape of the nose, to make it more like the cartoon.
    • I used eposi putty to make the teeth, and then I painted it a lighter yellow.
    • I painted your nails black.
    • I used epoxy putty to close his hood at the bottom, as unlike all other Skeletor heads, this head is open.
    • Using a tool that had been heated up, I made a hole in the Havoc Staff's skull to make his nose.
    • Using a tool I had heated up, I pierced the middle of the horns on the goat's skull.
    • I painted the entire staff's skull in gray and then using the technique of dry brush painting, I shaded the skull.

    Custom Teela

First of all, I'm always grateful for the compliments, it means a lot to me.

I will confess to you until recently I hated that snake armor from Teela and the snake staff too. I wasn't used to it that way and I don't think I was the only one that the first thing he did was remove her snake armor and never put it on and then leave it with the other rejected accessories (cough cough second head of the Ram Man, haha). But as I said "Until recently I hated it", I recently gave an incredible purpose to Tella's snake armor, some of these days I'll tell you.
Naturally the goal was to make it look like the Filmation version of the character.

    Modifications:

    • Using the same technique I used on Adam, I removed Teela's eyebrows, scraping them with a fine-tipped tool, being very careful not to mark the plastic.
    • I repainted the eyebrow, making it more arched.
    • I painted the underside of the eyelashes black.
    • I painted her lips red.
    • I painted the fur on her boot white.
    • I got Tella a sword, which I got in a very basic toy kit, which I bought in a department store in Brazil.

    Custom Beast Man

Once again the idea was to make the Filmation version of the Character.
In my short time in this business, I've noticed that sometimes you look, look and look at something and you don't understand why it's not working, and then you fix a little thing and suddenly it totally changes and it's perfect.
I had to redo this customization 3 times to get a satisfactory result, because the big problem with the figure's original face is its nose, which is so big that it interferes with the position of the eyes, only when I noticed that, I got a good result.

    Modifications:

    • With small pliers, I removed the original nose.
    • With epoxy putty I made a new nose and smaller than the original. Also with epoxy putty I made pronounced cheekbones, dark circles, eyebrows and bigger the ears.
    • I painted face, ears, and lips of cream.
    • I painted the details of the face, based on the Filmation drawing.
    • I painted the middle of his teeth black.
    • Using paint remover, I removed the blue symbol from his chest and repainted, concentrating the paint only to the circle.
    • I painted the bracelets reddish brown.

    Custom Man-At-Arms

Purpose of the customization was to make the Filmation version of the character.
It doesn't really matter to me specifically, as I would do it anyway, but I was quite surprised that Mattel put the Man-At-Arms of mustache the same in the cartoon, as the initial goal of the origins collection was to make the figures exactly same as the 80s but updated with joints, and the character had no mustache.

    Modifications:

    • With epoxy putty I increased the volume of his mustache a little, to be able to change the shape and separate the mustache like the cartoon.
    • I painted the mustache light brown.
    • I painted the white part of his eyes.
    • I thickened his eyebrows like in the cartoon.
    • I painted his hair brown.

yes yes yes yes yes! that's awesome. I can't sculpt that small. Do you use a magnifying glass or special tools? That's some great detail work. I know because I'm trying to sculpt the metal pieces for Castle Grayskull's doors and am not happy yet.

    Thank you very much!
I don't know if you know what epoxy putty is, it's like a child's modeling clay only it gets rock-hard when it dries. It's not difficult to handle, I don't use any special tools, I use normal molding tools, "Boleadores" (sorry i don't know the name of this in inglish).
Are you also customizing Grayskull Castle? I can see? I did too, but mine isn't ready yet, I still need to buy something to put in the castle. The problem is also that I have new ideas for the castle all the time, so it never ends, haha.
Which metal pieces for Castle Grayskull are you referring to? shield with skull design?
Glad you liked Teela, my favorite customizations are Battle cat, Ram Man, Hordak, Skeletor (Rise of the Evil), Skeletor and Mer-Man. (spoilers for the next few days haha)

    Custom Trap Jaw

The goal was to make the figure more like the Filmation version of the character.
Today it will be a more basic customization, however, necessary for the character.

    Modifications:

    • I painted his eyes white and painted his pupil black.
    • I painted the eyebrows like in the Filmation version.

Mer-man is in definite need of some work. Can't wait for Rammy. Yeah, I liked all of yours.

I haven't used epoxy putty, but I have some. I'll try it out someday.

Yeah, I was talking about the helmet, shield, swords on the drawbridge.

I'm actually building a Castle from scratch. I am at the point where I could show some work in progress. But it won't be done for a while. I don't have a lot of time to work on it. Like you said, I keep having new ideas. It was initially just going to be the front of the castle. But now I'm going to add some side walls (the front half) and then the base underneath the castle too.

Oh, I completely understand, I don't follow the forum posts very much, if you can, let me know when you're done, I really want to see.
Since I was 11 years old I've been thinking about building my own Grayskull castle, at that time it wouldn't have worked, but nowadays, I believe it would be good, but if I were to do it I would do something very big proportional to the puppets, but my problem is that Masters of the Universe is not my only collection and nor my main collection, so I can't spend space at home for that.
I almost didn't buy the Origins Castle, I can't explain it is that I think it's very dull inside, it lacks objects, it lacks details, so that's what I set out to do.
But, to be fair, I looked it up in various media, and I was surprised how we almost don't see the castle from the inside, and when it does it's always the same things, however, I think now I'm starting to like it, I filled in the walls a lot.
    Won't you do the interior?

Yeah, I have plans for some interior work too. I'm keeping my castle pretty close to Filmation in most respects. The front is a bit of a hybrid between the toys and Filmation. But inside I want to do Filmation. So I plan on doing the Sorceress' throne and those pillar-things too. Plus a few of the doors. Not sure what else.

I figure I already have the vintage and origins Castle, so no reason to redo that. And I prefer the mystery behind the Filmation castle. I like that there is almost no technology in it. That it's just stone and dark and magic. I also am not including the ledge on the tower that would help the enemy climb the towers. I know it was in the original sketches, but it doesn't make sense to me. Same with extra doors and windows and thatched roofing. Those are easy access points.

    I got these pics from:

Lots of good pics there for the interior of Filmation Grayskull.

About the ledge on the tower that allows the villains to climb, you are COMPLETELY RIGHT HAHAHA, but I think it looks so much prettier with that. Yes I did in my castle HAHA.

I used pics from another site, but it looks like the same pics, plus I used that pic of the castle inside that came with Castle Classics, the minicomics, and this new Netflix series Revelation, I don't know if you watched it, but , in the second part THERE ARE A LOT OF SCENES INSIDE the castle, I was so happy seeing that. There were more scenes inside the castle in those 5 episodes than in 100 episodes of the Filmation cartoon.

    Custom Man-E-Faces

The objective was to make the figure more similar to the Filmation version of the Character
This customization was something very simple that I did, I wasn't even focusing that much on the Filmation version, I just wanted to paint the parts in high relief.

    Modifications:

    • I painted the corners of his eyes red to make them bigger.
    • I painted his teeth white.
    • With a fine-tipped tool, I traced his mouth to part his lips.
    • I painted the nostril holes black.
