It's small potatoes next to some of the entries on this thread but by a stroke of good fortune, after nodding off in front of the idiot's lantern last Friday night, I awoke to find this vintage cinematic treat from the early 80s playing on Talking Pictures TV...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, which is a pity because this week the National Association of Beholders wrote to tell me that I've got a face like a rucksack full of dented bells.

I recorded this the other day from the same channel. Have a big love for the amicus anthology films. This was the last on they made I believe.

I created a petition to help The Bangles get nominated into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Please consider signing and helping the cause!

    https://www.change.org/p/get-the-ban...l-hall-of-fame

One of my musicians, Peter Holsapple has signed at my request which was awesome!

Peter is from The Continental Drifters (a band that The Bangles lead guitarist Vicki Peterson has also worked with).

Lovely and talented Meredith Brooks just gave me some amazing heartwarming and much needed advice. I told her about my illness and depression and my unfinished novel about inspirational women rock and rollers in a fantasy setting.

She said she would love to read it, and that has inspired me to get back into the game.

Meredith is famous for her song ***** from her Blurring The Edges album. However, she has released many other wonderful albums including Deconstruction, Bad Bad One (later re-released as Shine), her delightful children's album If I Could Be and an early release called See It Through My Eyes.

On Deconstruction, Meredith performed a song with the wonderful Queen Latifah, called Lay Down (Candles In The Rain). I always loved Queen Latifah in Last Holiday.

Meredith also released an album called Perfect View with Charlotte Caffey (from The Go-Go's) and Gia Ciambotti. They called themselves The Graces and I have to say it is one of my all-time favourite albums!

Meredith sings lead on Fear No Love and Should I Let You In (previously recorded by Belinda Carlisle), she sings a duet with Gia Ciambotti called 50,000 Candles Burning, and together with Charlotte and Gia, they perform Tomorrow and Out In The Fields as as a trio. The last song was co-written with Belinda Carlisle and the bulk of the songs were penned by Charlotte Caffey.

Mikey, have you ever seen the film STREETS OF FIRE? I have a hunch this is something you would love. Gripping, great rock 'n' roll storyline and the music...oh Lord the music! The film's sound track is hands down my favorite of any film. Here's my favorite song -- and a darned good video -- from the soundtrack/film, but honestly every song is awesome:

Mikey, a little advance warning because I know your tastes: it's a big visceral and violent at times, but I think the overall story is really worth your time.

That's OK Jack, I am very sensitive, but I watched five seasons of Gotham which could get pretty gruesome at times.

Spent all day Saturday cleaning and organizing the garage for the first time since we moved in almost 2 years ago. It looks great and is organized and completely void of clutter. I can actually use it as a workspace.

And speaking of, I spent Sunday afternoon soldering, wiring, and installing a new touch screen radio in my step-son's car. I'd never done it before and if it weren't for my friends, Google and Youtube, I would have struggled heavily. Proud to say he is booming the music today

I’ve just finished watching Gotham and there were several times I thought throughout it ‘how did Mikey watch this considering he doesn’t like violent stuff’. Which I found strange, thinking of someone I don’t actually know

Thanks! And yeah, I'm the same way. I've done a lot of repairs on things that I had zero experience with prior thanks to Google and Youtube. I've been able to repair an oven, a garage door opener, and two different style clothes dryers thanks to both.

I wonder if I'd appreciate Google as much as I do if I hadn't grown up without it

Went to the Bayou DeSiard Dragon Boat Festival last weekend. It's been canceled the last couple of years due to COVID, but they finally go the go ahead again. It was a lot of fun and I got several good pictures.

I don't think so. Kids these days don't appreciate how easy it is to find/listen to music on Spotify. Back in our day, you'd be lucky to find something on a sampler and would have to hunt around record stores. Excuse me, I have to go shake my fist at the clouds...

Sounds good. When you get back I'll tell you about the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now, where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

A release date for Rhythm Of The World, an album by Susan Cowsill, Bob Cowsill and Paul Cowsill has been announced for September 30 2022! I was one of the fans who helped fund the album on fundraiser site Pledge Music!

The album has been in limbo for a while because of COVID and issues regarding Pledge Music itself, but there is good news on the horizon!

Because of illness and depression over the last few years, I've let my dreams fall apart. My dreams were a combination of fantasy writing mixed with music journalism. After one of my musical heroes Meredith Brooks recently told me she would be interested in reading my work, I've been working on little articles on Instagram for my favourite musicians for the last week, trying to regain my skills and feel inspired to write again. I'm going to be spending this Winter with a combination of favourite fantasy movies/TV shows/books and music as well as honing my craft to make a comeback.

    - - - Updated - - -

Meredith Brooks has updated her website, which means she may have new music coming, I hope! She did mention something about an online concert!

Going to have Surgery this Thursday. I just hope this whole bleeding stuff would stop in coming days, months, and years. But not looking forward for them to use Anesthesia from Waist down. Gas me and let me sleep damnit.

Played in a golf tournament with 3 guys all over the age of 75. One guy named Ralph is my new hero. Great shape and hits the ball a mile at 79 years old! We didn't hit the ball great but everyone hit good shots. And then it was time to putt. I've never seen such a display and I even helped out. We made EVERYTHING. Won the tournament and a little spending money! Had a great time.

One of the great things about golf is that it harbors little in the way of ageism, allowing many of us seniors to play this sometimes frustrating, occasionally wonderful and always interesting game if we wish to do so.

Many years ago, on a cold November night after a long recovery from a double mastectomy, my mother announced she was having reconstructive breast surgery. I said, "Mom, you're eighty-one. Do you really want to do this?" She answered, "Honey, I know I'm never going to be a Playboy centerfold, but the aftereffects of the surgery are interfering with my backswing."

She went ahead and got the surgery. One day that summer she called to tell me that she had won the Seniors Women's Golf Tournament at her Country Club...with a hole-in-one on the sixteenth hole no less! She got a write-up in Golf Digest. I could hear her smiling through the phone as she said, "See? I told you so..."

My mother's been gone for nineteen years now. I keep her hole-in-one trophy, with the golf ball embedded within it, on my desk to remind me of the importance of having an indomitable spirit.

My oldest son won Employee of the Month at his new job! He's only been there 4 months and it's a job in computers on a military base so I'm pretty proud of him. Even better it comes with a bonus
