I think they wanna avoid what happened with Filmation, they want as much control over all they can monetize since if another splitt happens again with Powerhouse for example and NBC Universal buys that then all the Powerhouse characters goes to Dreamworks.

The whole Filmation deal most likely is because Filmation put up money as well into the production of "He-Man", and the deal that if Filmation created a character like Lizard Man, which Mattel could make into a toy, then Mattel would need to pay royalties to Filmation for it. But you can check out that in the 80s Mattel didn't really create toys out of Filmation-created characters...

Mattel has not done a similar thing anymore for quite some time. MYP Series is a good indication of that. Just because if some company came in and bought MYP (now days Splash Entertainment), they wouldn't suddenly get any MYP characters.

Mattel is creating and producing the Netflix shows. The animating work is done at Powerhouse and other studios.

Didn't Mattel have to pay royalties to Filmation for the vintage Orko figure?

What about the unique characters created in the MYP show, like Pravhus or Lord Dactus? Are they not owned by Mattel?

This whole situation reminds me of the Habro / Marvel mess surrounding the character Bug. If my memory is serving me correctly, the whole story goes that Marvel acquired the license from Hasbro to do comics based on the Micronauts toys back in the late 1970s.

The green insect guy though...Bug...^... had a design not based on a toy. This established some weird joint ownership.

Later on in 2008, Bug joined the now super famous new rendition of Guardians of the Galaxy.

But when it came to the movies, Bug couldn't be used. Director James Gunn said he wanted to use Bug in his all GOTG films, including the third one currently in production, but he revealed Marvel only owns the comic rights to Bug.

Last Dr Strange movie has Shuma-Gorath in it but he's not called that and all material refers to him as Gigantus or something like that because technically he's a Conan character.

Basically. As I recall you can even see Filmation copyright on vintage Orkos.

They are. Mattel was very hands on with 2002 cartoon and for example if you would have your own studio to produce DVDs, you need to talk to Mattel if you want to release MYP Series.

That's right! Just the name though. The creature's first appearance was in a Dr. Strange comic but they took the name from a Robert E. Howard character which is so strange (no pun intended) looking from afar. Maybe it was just a writer's tip of a hat to another writer as a big fan.

They did the same thing with Hepzibah from the Star Jammers, lifted a name and likeness from old Pogo comics. It's why she doesn't look like a skunk anymore.

    Agreed.

I really enjoyed their take on the Legion of Superheroes (probably my all-time favorite comic) in Legion Lost and The Legion... and when they came over to Marvel during the Annihilation Conquest, GotG, and the Thanos Imperative, I was hooked.

Great to hear because that was very annoying. Perhaps the Cosmic Enforcers intervened off screen...

I just hope the writing is better this time around. Super Evil-lyn could destroy Preternia and everyone in it with a thought, yet she was having trouble dealing with Adam and Skeletor in the Grayskull throne room.

And they stick to more of classic looks. Outside of cloaked MAA and Sorceress Lyn, all the non-classic designs were pretty fugly.

"You’re not done learning about Preternia. And secrets will be revealed about its origin and cosmic significance and balancing all the different powers, good and evil, and everything in between in the universe.”

This sounds like Preternia was restored when Evil-Lyn relinquishes her power and balance is brought back by Teela (Sorceres), Orko, and He-Man...

    This^^

I wish they had made more of a deal of that, it was kind of a blink and miss it moment. Although Evil-Lyn pulling back Orko to stay on Eternia kind of confirms that Preternia was restored.

Evil-Lyn didn't have trouble dealing with them. She wanted to toy with them. She could vanquish them at any time, like she turned Panthor into stone.

A recap: When Adam and Skeletor arrive to distract her and Adam tells her "You are the most powerful being that ever lived. Fighting you would be useless", Lynn counters with "But sooo much more fun." So Lyn wants to toy with them, the two people that, to this point, have always been more powerful than her.

It's kind of like this animated scene in Fire & Ice. The powerful villian wants to sword fight the human hero. But as soon as the villian gets cut, he stops the fight with his powers....

I was going to make this exact point - it was all about the entertainment for her. And even though earlier she chastized Skeletor for his He-Man obsession when he could essentially destroy him on a whim as Skelegod, she seems to have realized in her God-Lyn form that the endless struggle against good was the only thing that gave her and Skeletor any purpose to their existence.

My speculation about Preternia and the three towers for Revolution:

Preternia will be made to be the actual Preternia as originally conceived: as Eternia in the past (some time-wimey stuff and cross-dimension junk). The "Revolution" will be the revolt against the Evil Horde of the past and then the present. Also a major storyline will be how the towers were built by both the Elders and Hordak. We will have some of our people in the past and some in the present all fighting the Horde at the same time. Skeletor will be mucking it up as usual. The three towers will be the center piece of the entire series. Roboto will be back. As will all the Preternia characters, including Moss Man. We will get Mosquitor and probably Rio Blast.

    At least I hope!

I am looking forward to it too!

Regarding voice cast, I don't believe an official cast list has been released, but thanks to various hints, social media posts and announcements, it appears William Shatner, Chris Wood, Mark Hamill, Griffin Newman, Tony Todd and Tiffany Smith are confirmed so far.
